    I have been using independent manufactured batteries (IMB) for about three years. All the camera makers battery chargers under charge IMB's, so to use them, you need an independent charger. I tried this out on my Olympus EM1ii charger first, when the Oly charger reported IMB's charging was complete I inserted into the charger that came with the IMB and charging went on for another hour and the voltage rose by 1.1 volts. I use them with my Panasonic and Sony devices too, but I have noticed only the Olympus cameras moan when an IMB is inserted. I buy the batteries and the charger as a package at the same time and this policy has saved me a lot of money.

      Hi. That maoning by your camera is because of the lack of a decoder chip in the batteries. The SmallRig ones have a decoder chip in them but many third party batteries do not. So your camera won't moan about compatibility. However, SmallRig don't make an Olympus battery yet. Thanks for watching.

    Scott, I’ve mentioned this before, but I enjoy your videos as much or more than any others. I’m a Sony guy but full frame gear is currently out of my budget. Thanks again from Tennessee!

    Wow. What exquisitely beautiful pictures Scott. I like the fact they make batteries for Sony because I have my heart set on the Sony A7R5.
    Your videos are always both refreshing and instructive.
    Just a bit of a totally unrelated aside. It would be so easy, if I wasn't 3,000 miles away from where you reside for me to be your friend. How lucky are those who have that fun and honor!

    Nice video Scott, I loved your "recharge battery" way, and I completely agree. Keeping always on motivation can be hard, but with your suggestions is much more easier. Interesting batteries as well, I think I'm going to try them. Thanks for sharing.

    Batteries that are themselves directly USB-C rechargeable -- that is an interesting idea.
    I looked them up in my regular (web) camera shop and I found the same batteries not only from SmallRig, but also from Mathorn and Julio, in same capacity!
    I will keep these batteries in mind when I need extra batteries for my camera.

      Hi Tim. Yes, I’ve certainly found them to be a convenience. When I a go away for a few days at a time I normally take 8 batteries with me. But maybe now I will only take 2 or 4 and charge them up in the car as I’m driving around. The fact that they’re so much cheaper is also a bonus. Thanks for watching.

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  10 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Gregor. Yep, that's another way to do it. The thing to be careful of in that situation is that your battery doesn't overheat and cause damage to the camera - its probably are rare occurrence and probably only happens when people leave the battery charging in their camera for longer than is needed. Thanks for watching.

    Nice suggestions Scott. I know I am going to have to get some mojo back after returning from Scotland photographing pine martens back to the slightly less exciting Nottinghamshire😂😂 I will often try something completely different such as Landscape or even street/night photography just to keep using the camera and I'm soon out crawling about after wildlife again👌👌👍👍

    I've used Canon for more than 25 years and the price of original batteries has always annoyed me. I once tried using third party batteries and they worked well with no problems for the first year or so. After that I noticed they held their charge for far less time and this quickly started getting worse and worse until they were basically useless. By the time I retired them, my original Canon batteries were still holding about 80 per cent of their charge, even though they were older batteries. I think that with batteries, you can only really draw conclusions after using them for at least a year to see if they stand the test of time. Even if they don't hold a recharge for as long as original batteries and need replacing, they may still work out cheaper in the long run - but for me, it's worth paying the extra for batteries with more "shelf life." I've stuck with Canon batteries ever since - but I still get annoyed every time I buy them!

      Hi Mike. Yes, that’s a very fair point. This is only based on my impression of them for 2 weeks. But so far so good. We’ll see if they still hold up over the coming months. Thanks for watching.

      Hi. Its the Platypod Max amzn.to/45DV3lT it's a super stable metal plate that allows you to use you gimbal head on the ground or on a shelf in a hide. It has sone feet screws to raise the height of it too that are included. Thanks for watching.

      Yes, if charge them in camera, but you can't use them whilst charging (ie they can't charge and discharge at the same time). Thanks for watching.

    Not really on topic but it's interesting seeing how the ND filter fixes the blown out outdoors in the video shot from inside the hide at 6:14 - almost looks like some sort of magical window as you can see outdoor the outdoor scene through it that's almost complexity blown out to the camera looking directly out the window.

    Awesome Scott I really needed this mate! Can you point me towards your gimbal setup please? Looks ace!

    • @WalksOnTheWildSide
      @WalksOnTheWildSide  10 месяцев назад +1

      Sure, I was using the Platypod Max (amzn.to/3qA2OKw) with my Kenro Gimbal head attached to it. The Platypod comes in three sizes: Ultra (small), Max (big) and Extreme (very big). Most camera and long lens sets ups are fine on the max version. If you have a lot of accessories added to you camera adding significant weight you may want the extreme version. If you don't already have a gimbal head, I would recommend getting a decent one. You can get them really cheaply, but the cheap ones often aren't very stable. This is the one I currently use amzn.to/3DY479n, but this is the one I'm getting next amzn.to/45tvrIN. Thanks for watching.

      @@WalksOnTheWildSide For me batteries that are 80% as good but cost 20% as much i’m fine with. I’ve noticed my 3rd party batteries dropping off over cycles of use more but again as long as camera manufacturers seem to want extreme profit on batteries I’ll keep getting third party batteries.
