From my experience with all of the cameras, Canon gives me consistently nice neutral skin tones leaning towards magentas, Nikon also gives very nice natural looking skin slightly leaning towards greens (The sooc is probably my favorite) The Fuji gives a nice soft quality to skin leaning towards pink/magenta. Sony definitely leans towards greens/yellow SOOC. Some tweaks to the profile settings and you can get a better look without any editing but this is what it is
Hey Manny,
Finally someone has an objective view on colors. Note I said colors and not “color science” as RGB is RGB. Each brand just does it different and Canon (I agree with you) process their skin tones that are more pleasing to the eyes. But when shooting in RAW (as you stated), you can match or bake in a profile that suites your eyes.
Only human eyes can get the right WB. For cameras, they’re guessing and sometimes off. That’s why we just need to know what our cameras and brands execute colors and WB and adjust accordingly.
Nice job making this comparison and contrast. Looking forward for your in-depth video if you have time.
I would add Panasonic as they also do a good job with their colors. I had the GH5 and then S1H at one time and if it wasn’t their DFD (Death from Defocus), I would have stayed with them
Why Sony don't just tweak before sending their cameras ?
@@stephanes., they have with their new cameras. Much better than before
Hey Manny, I think you have a scammer trying to get info from your subscribers, claiming to be giving away free cameras
Any opinion on Lumix S ?
That R5 footage is IMMACULATE. Nikon is sharp too though 👍🏾
Nikon puts out the most contrasty punchy image SOOC. It looks like it was already edited
Nikon and XT4 look 🔥 sony looks like you have food poisoning and youre about to throw up
@@MannyOrtiz I love Nikon, Nikon user here. P.S. I have Canon too. ✌
@@MannyOrtiz no, leica does
@@MannyOrtizi dont see the full video on your channel. Did you make it yet?
man the Sony looks green
Sony looks terrible. I shot with Sony A73 coming from the Canon 5d Mark 3....I got the Sony so I could also shoot video with better auto focus but photos never looked better than my Canon 5d Mark 3. As soon as the EOS R came out my A73 was replaced. I don't care if you shoot in RAW there are still colors or tints that are baked in. It always took longer to edit sony files than canon files. I now shoot with the R5 I don't think I'd ever go back to Sony no matter how much tech they pack into their cameras.
@@richardcollinsphotography1288 Good luck spending thousands on RF lenses tho. That’s enough to make me switch. I love some good ol vintage or cine lenses. Can’t forget the big players like Tamron and Sigma
@@mcintosh.motors I make good money so it's not an issue and I have vintage lenses aswell.
@@richardcollinsphotography1288 lol, canon is better, but it's still not usable, and after Lightroom there is almost no difference, and Sony is more reliable in most cases.
@@richardcollinsphotography1288 u make good money but u bought a73 instead of a1, lol.
Nikon is super detailed, I can literally see his pores
Yes, the Nikon was the sharpest out of the bunch but the lens has a huge part to do with that
@@MannyOrtiz wouldn’t it have everything to do with it? Like each camera is capable of the same resolution video and all of them are downgraded for the RUclips short.
Any extra detail picked up would have to be from the lens
That Sony looks disgusting 🤢
Canon R5 looks the most natural, and the Nikon looks super neutral/balanced - perfect for editing.
i can't really tell the difference between nikon and canon they both look gorgeous
Yep. Staying with Canon for over 10 years, partly for their colour science. I just love their skin tones, no need for much correction there…
I think Canon and Nikon are both my favorites.
Fuji has this warm softness that might be less accurate but is the nicest looking imo
PhaseOne or Olympus colours
Eeh, I don't know. I think Canon and Nikon are very nice.
Is it only me? But Nikon looks most crispy and 3D popping (What lens was used for the test?)... Colours also are the most amazing, no need edition and post... That is the reason why I went back to Nikon after trying Canon and Sony...
Fujifilm is the best for portrait shooting though 😃
It's actually an effect similar to 'clarity' or 'texture' in Photoshop raw processing. Canon can sort of do this in camera too but you'll have to build a picture profile from scratch.
That disgusting green tint on the skin tone on the sony one... eventhough u can edit and make all be look identical, the question is if u have lot of files to edit , it will be wasting your time
Sony looks okay to me just less contrast
That’s not true. Lightroom and photoshop let you save and use a preset on multiple images. No extra time wasted I post.
@@supermario1348 yes but not hundreds and thousands of pictures are suitable for any presets, u need to tweak it a bit cause of the lighting conditions are different in each pictures
@@mbismbismb you have no idea what you are talking about you can have basic presets for color toning across all videos and photos we are not talking about final look we care talking about coloring matching
@@tarngill1155 Problem is that when it can’t reproduce fine skin tone nuances you would be forced to manually apply improvements via brushes. A general color adjustment won’t helps.
Nice comparison.. I prefer Canon. I like a little bit the magenta rather than green..
Nikon wins for me. The thing about Skin tones and canon colors is that, although on more fairer skins, the slightly more reddish/magenta tones looks pleasing, but on people with darker skins, that doesn't necessarily look good. In my honest experience, with older Canon and Nikon crop sensor cameras, the Nikon cameras just always looked alot more natural and pleasing, while Canon bought out the red and magenta a bit too much and also the contrast did hurt a bit. That said tho, i am a brown skinned dude, around brown skinned people.
Which cameras colour science looks best on darker skin tones? Asking as a brown person
@@DeekshaAnil007 They all look good until you start comparing them side by side, then it all depends on what you personally like. I have to see this Canon/Fuji magenta/red skin tones, Nikon is what I personally find nice and Fuji ASTIA which has some great gold quality when it comes to skin tones. But again, this is so subjective, I don't think there is right or wrong objectively.
That Fuji look though 😍
It looks the worst by far
@@kreativeGG i think you need an eye calibration 💀.
@@kreativeGG I think you fell and bumped your head the Sony is definitely the worst out of all of them Fuji and Canon are pretty the better out of them all
@@andrewnuss8416 not really my fault that you seem to be colorblind. Fuji has a disgusting red hue over everyones skin. You can literally see it in every fuji video thats not recorded in f-log + graded.
@@Nico-kz8ip another one falling for fuji marketing hype 💀💀
Nikon and Canon SOOC for me.
Fuji looks great
That R5 was insane
I like the canon and Fuji standard colors
I love the way canon captures warm and brown tones. I understand you can manipulate them in post processing when shooting in raw, but I feel if you’re shooting straight out of the camera, and you’re a person of color or shoot a lot of people of color, the canon can and will give you the most true to color results. Which is everything for me, who is a woman of color, who mainly just shoots her kids, who are darker in complexion.
I think the Canon and the Fuji is most pleasant to look at even though I love sony cameras most
Nikon and Canon✨️
Fuji and canon R5 looks insane for the skintone 🙌
All excellent, although Sony tends to feel slightly green to me (not just here)
I love the color that cannon produces
That Sony mutant swag
Canon looks prefect out the gate
100
Canon R5 but with Fuji color
The Nikon files are best when processed with in-house NX Studio. Lightroom does not work as good.
AWESOME NIKON COLORS 😍🙌🏻
This is exactly how I see them, Canon and Fuji too red, Sony too green, Nikon just right. But again, my first camera was Nikon so maybe that has something to do with it. :)
Now on Fuji I like only Astia, all others are too red for my perception of reality.
I love me some green tint and especially fixing the colours in LR, going through 300+ photos on each wedding day.
🤣🤣🤣
You are right, there are a lot of determining factors like light colour and the lens itself. No one remembers exactly what the lighting was like once they get home to colour grade the footage, it's hard to tell how warm the evening sun was or how strong the magenta colour cast from the sky was. Unless the colours are way out of wack, I don't think many people would notice unless you done side by side tests. Its even hard to tell in this video because the footage isn't side by side.
Your video quality is killer, manny!! Inspired!🎉😮
Fuji is red
Sony so greeeen
To me the best camera color that I can see in your video, first is Fuji ,2nd canon 3rd is Nikon and lastly is Sony as it has little bit greenish color which I am not preferring. 😊
Cool! I follow both of you!
I do question my own skills sometimes after years of experience shooting almost every day and making clients happy! 😅
Everybody saying Canon but for me, the Fujifilm stood out.. Had to play it atleast 5x. Wow.. And im saving up for a mirrorless. This Shorts vid was good!
Fuji is like canon on steroids
I love photography 🥰 so that's why i always watching this Channel video , having a camera like this is very awesome , specially going somewhere, but I can't afford it, but I do always watching like this video because it was so fun , and great and more explore. and i wish I could have soon 😊
You are so correct. Shoot raw and you can make them look the same. Hasselblad does not have that problem though.
These are the top 4 cameras for Photography.. nice review...
R5 color science is amazing!
Looking forward to your video! Like always Manny! I just purchased the a7iv now its time to get to work! Thank you for being an inspiration to my love for photography!
Canon and nikon definitely look sharper and high value production
I just moved to Fujifilm. Yes, I noticed that skin tones are more reddish and that may darker skin tone became lighter, which I don't like. Canon is good. And as far as I remember, Nikod captures of the face's details. Other brands seem to reduce facial texture.
It's really a matter of taste. Some like more the magentas, others like more the greens. You see this difference of choice even on the big screens. To me, the most important thing is having a camera whose color science gives you plenty of room to fine adjust in the grading phase.
Sony looks green! I think the latest, the A74, is much better though. Surprised at how it looks on your screen.
Great short! Side by side AF test for all brands next?
great video thank you no one is doing conparisions like this
Canon's colour science knocks everyone out of the ball park
Canon color science is great for portraits. But IMO not the best for other genres like landscapes and wildlife.
@@livejames9374true..but in that regard Canon has that look, shoot and post that jpeg for an instance and most of the time colors are magical (leave editing aside)..
@@CroIntr00Xagreed
I never liked it. Still think it is a personal preference, no one is doing it wrong here.
Canon Colour Science is Perfect.. Fuji is Nice too and Leica..
Bro has the perfect skull shape for that high fade im so jealous rn
The Fujifilm camera should have been the GFX 50S ii 😮💨 to see more colors (photons) hit a bigger medium format sensor.
If I'm not mistaken, if one shoots RAW it depends more on which editing software one uses than which camera, since each software interprets and reads the file differently.
By the way u need to do the comparison including different skin tones n textures.
Im sure it will be the nikon which finds the right balance for all .
Include different kinds of skintones in the same image for better understanding
Canon has the best natural colour science
Wow that Fuji is amazing
Canon is my top tier when it comes to color, but I actually like the Sony as well since the skin tone from Sony can give you lot of options to edit to your like.
The science behind each lens can produce warmer or cooler colours depending on their glass density, lens configurations, coatings, polarisations, light frequency, etc. A camera brand may be preferred simply because of their particular glass IQ rather than the actual camera output.
Gosh! I didn't realise this thread is 5 months old. 😄
I feel like you might have been spying on my search history they last few days haha! Been having conversations about this very thing :)
You can always tell a Sony camera part because of those slight green tones it’s one of the reasons canon gets some of the best skin tones nd color but doesn’t really matter if your a good editor and get fix those small imperfections
@mannyortiz I hope you can try Pentax too. Their colors are amazing too.
I used Fuji for the dials and because people rave about the film simulations but I still think the Canon look is superior. I've used both in the same photoshoot and Canon colors were noticeably better for the style I like
Keep pumping the content, brother ✊🏼
What are your thoughts on GM 85 1.2 release date?
As a Sony guy for the last 15 years I am over their colors. I’m going to try Fuji for a while.
Fujifilm GFX ccnaeras + Leica R lenses = best colours in my personal experience
13:56 “manufacture everything to tyres, batteries etc”?
No mainstream car manufacturer manufactures their tyres and batteries. There are companies who specialize in those parts and they buy from them.
Color matching made easy with multiple cameras with Davinci Resolve's color space transform.
That R5 skin tone though is straight fire sooc.
I would love to see how to make the cameras match each other
Thats true mate!! In post you can make them identical!😂🔥
I would have pressed that Red button down there, had you also included Panasonic Lumix Cameras 😏.
I wish YT was not blocking display of captions in shorts; at least there is an option to manually convert them to a standard video, where everything works - ID is the same for both modes.
that fuji skintone looks beautiful
I like the colors of Sony camera the best because after editing it becomes even better which Canon and Nikon cannot do.
Fuji looked really good, damn!
And Canons skintones and contrast is awesome as usual.
People should note this is ONLY for video. For photo, whatever raw converter you are using has more influence on color than the brand. Capture One makes sony files look magnificent. Lightroom destroys Sony files which spawns the common complaint of sony colors
To me Sony Looks the most cinematic. Then Nikon. Canon & Fuji look too red/magenta. If you compare with cinema cameras for example, the undertone of the image is usually more green. Sony nails it. But then again it's a look, and not everyone might like it. But for me Sony looks the best.
Your photography is really asowm sir
Manny come on man, upload the video already, been waiting on it for 10 days, damn your dragging it bro.😅😅
The RAW/Grading argument is persistent and not without reason. But my experience watching footage for years raised awareness of another way to view “color science”, which I can’t unsee anymore. It’s more like “way of imaging”. Sony is always tack sharp, but on a 2D plane. I don’t know if that has something to do with the size of the mount or flange distance. On the flip side Canon and Nikon has depth to the image along the Z axis. Sony seems to have worked on the green/yellow cast that I flat out hated, but there’s always something about that 2D flatness of the image, and capturing shades of red. I’m not referring to skin tones here. On an engineering basis I don’t support the notion that RAW/LOG profiles don’t carry the signature of the system. Before the jpeg engine there’s a ton of light handling, A/D conversion, solid state physics happening on the sensor that define the readout. It’s possible Canon and Nikon pull some perceived micro contrast trick for that depth sensation and thereby straying away from utmost accuracy, but it’s simply great.
the sony going into green and gray each for me
I own an a7iv, but I liked XT-4 tone here.
bdw I'm missing u on Vero sir
Sony shooter, I love Canon colors. I love Sony tech. But If I would start today I'd choose Canon.
Canon and fuji i would say
I love Forever Asahi Pentax 67 ❤
Canon - Fuji - no question!
Right now there's not a bad camera on the market there are just bad photographers who don't know how to use gear is my assumption always now when people criticise cameras because most of the cameras produced in the last 10 years are pretty good there's always things that need improvement on all camera systems, but seriously all of the cameras now are really good and I don't think it matters what brand you use
The r5 had the best color imo. Nikon was leaning towards a green tint. Fuji had a but over saturation. And you can clearly see that Sony michael bay look. Everything is toned down and meant to look blue and green. It's so weird
The R5 looks excellent and vibrant, Nikon and Fuji is also nice and feels more moody and cinematic… Sony… meh.
Thank You for the info fam and I am subscribing for more videos
One question. you can make all of them look identical with raw. But you need all of them for comparison right? If you just have one single camera, how would you know what tones other cameras produced? In this case having the most accurate skin tone in the default jpeg is the best imo.
You say "same white balance", but does that just mean you set the kelvin the same in the white balance menu? The only way to actually get them close is using a white card.
Canon too much red, Sony green, Nikon is between which looks best, Fuji way too red
Sticking with the R5 ❤❤❤
Canon and Fuji ftw. Please include Panasonic. Sad that they are left out. Lumix s5 is great.
Sony looks greenish. Why tho?
Coz Sony colors are shit... 😂🙌🏻
It's hard to find real reptilians, when everyone is green.
No need to explain more... its sony anyway.. u cant make them do the colour science right haha
@@Azeemmerchant1 year later and sony wiped the floor with about any camera brand😤
@@everonproducties since when? I just tested out their A7M5 idk why do still sony cameras have that weird low quality viewfinder literally the colors in viewfinder aren't even accurate and i also compared it with nikon z50 a budget one even that one have better viewfinder and screen also when you zoom into the sony's photo's you see a grain here and there in darker portions even also the screen is inaccurately calibrated on their some camera's like zv e10 a small screen not even fully touch with tint and images look overexposed and the meter shows the exposure is fine idk why do they do this its just a hype Nikon I find much better than sony the details you get on the nikon is far much better than any sony apsc.
Canon rule them all
Nice to shoot and record raw 422 internally
Xrite Color passport... And you get all cameras to the same point... Even for video... We cali rate monitors, but how many of us calibrate camera sensor to get best color output...
Color is subjective but sony has always had 🤮 colors out of the box. Yes raw is great but it depends how much you want to work.

Canon the best one in standart picture control
