    Hi Maian,
    Keep calculating the next month as shown until you reach five months - you can actually keep going as long as you want.
    BUT.... remember that the further into the future you predict, the less accurate your predictions will be. This is because you will soon start using forecasted values in your calculations.
    Dr E.

    A better comparison can be visualized by plotting on the same chart. Just add the 3-month moving average column as series data source in the existing chart.

    Greetings Mr Eugene,I would like to ask, in order to calculate the WMA, we must use exclusively the closing price of the instrument ?
    Thanks in advance

    Can you show us any method that can be used for longer periods this method has the smoothing effect and after a while the numbers become absolutely the same ?

    Thanks for this. Btw is there any formula for calculating this in excel. Actually I wanted to calculate it for 50 weights, so is there any shortcut method to do? The given formula is going to exhaust me by giving weights to 50 different values

    Thanks for the tutorial, may I know what's the difference between 3-months forecast and 5-months forecast? I'm doing a retrospective analysis of the learning curve of a new surgical method, and my chart's finally smoothened by using a moving 10-subjects average (which're bizarre spikes with 3- and 5-subjects averages).

    • @EugeneOLoughlin
      @EugeneOLoughlin  10 лет назад

      Hi ailurophobia03,
      It's up to you to decide analysis to do on your data, but yes - you can use 3 periods as I show in the video.

    why don't use "= sumproduct"?

    • @DrGovindakbari
      @DrGovindakbari 7 лет назад

      sumproduct can be used only when number of arrays are equal, in this explanation, it's about moving averages, when arrays are changing,

    why in formula divided by 6??

    • @EugeneOLoughlin
      @EugeneOLoughlin  3 года назад

      Hi Anchal,
      The figure if 6 is the sum of the weightings. In my example the weightings are: 3, 2, and 1.
      Remember to change this if you use different weightings, eg: if you have weightings of 5, 4, and 3, then divide by 12 (5 + 4 + 3 = 12).
      Hope this helps,
      Dr E.

    I don't understand why you are dividing by 6

    • @EugeneOLoughlin
      @EugeneOLoughlin  10 лет назад +6

      Hi Kush,
      6 is the sum of the weights (3+2+1) that I used in this example (as explained at 2:47 in the video).
      Dr E.

  • @kevinpadilla3697
    @kevinpadilla3697 5 лет назад

    why is it divided by 6

  • @updslo
    @updslo 9 лет назад

    This is wrong, for april you need to start with april * 3, for a specific month you allways start with the close of that time.

    • @EugeneOLoughlin
      @EugeneOLoughlin  9 лет назад +1

      Hi Upd,
      Check the formula at 17 secs into the video. You can see that it is used to determine the Forecast (F) for time (t). To do this for a three point average you can see in the formula that the actual (A) values used are for t-1, t-2, and t-3.
      So if Ft is April, At-1 is March, At-2 is February, and At-3 is January.
      I hope this helps clarify how you use this method.
      Dr E.
