I'm fine with us being more advanced than them. I've grown tired of listening to all the stories that have us way behind all the time. There's at least 3 to 1 that we are so underdog it's ridiculous.

Oh good grief, not the stupid “we’re secretly more advanced than you are” cliché again! You NEED to STOP USING THAT! It’s NOT GOOD! It is lazy and, what’s more, it makes absolutely NO SENSE!!!

Imagine a variant of this; classic trope. And then when the evil galactic council forces come to teach the humans a lesson the hidden secret forces, unknown to the council, unfold. End then nothing. The secret advanced systems do not exist or work. Funds were diverted by corruption. Earth is spectacularly defeated. - The end. - Still not good. But it would be something else.
