Thank you. This was helpful. I'm wondering how to deal with the stiches when the thread is synthetic. I used all purpose dye on a top and it looks beautiful. But the thread remained in the old color. Contrasting stitches is a look, just not the look I was going for. In that case, should I use Dyemore?

all your videos are so helpful. with dyes, once I have soaked an item in a dye bath, can I continue to use the same bath for other items? If I still have some left over, can I cover it and use it the next day etc? It won't be hot any more but I could heat it again...would that work?
So one bottle (or packet) of dye will dye about 2 lbs. of fabric. After that, you will start to see less saturation in your color. So, that doesn't mean that you can't use it until the color wears out, but you are just not going to get consistent results.

Usually, you don't need to use fixative with dyemore, however, that is based off of the material your garment is made out of. Since you are using dyemore on cotton, you may want to use the fixative. It will help keep the color stay for longer and make it more vibrant.

I just wanna know two things..is Rit dye Permanent or not???And would it wash off if I were to wash my shoes?.. I want to permanently change the color of my shoes so I was wondering if Rit is the option I should go for..PLZ RESPOND🙏
Rit is in theory permanent. It may fade over time and is especially likely to fade if you don’t use their color fixative or if you wash the item in hot water.
Thanks for the video :) I understand that you should use Dyemore with synthetics if it's 35%+ (that's a given) and regular with cotton/naturals. It's easy to understand why you need the dyemore for synthetics but no one has mentioned why you shouldn't use it on cottons? I would think the dyemore would be a stronger dye? and maybe actually do a better job on cotton? I would appriecate any that knows the answers to Please inform me. I wanted to dye some cotton but thought that I would not be using the whole bottle of dye up, so I should buy the Dyemore, so I could use it on other small items later on.
Dyemore is not "stronger" it's a different chemical process. The actual chemical process used for synthetics doesn't work as well on natural fibers. What this amounts to is if you use Dyemore on natural fabrics, it will actually dye much lighter than the standard dye.

Hi! Lovely video! I have a question: each and every time I dye clothing, with all purpose or synthetic dye, the actual thread that goes through the pieced of fabric remains undyed. I hate how it looks afterwards, very patchwork-like. How can one make sure that the thread seams are also dyed? Thanks!
Your best bet would be to use the dye more for synthetic materials and really hot water. It is really tough to tell because usually the thread is not listed in the fiber contents.
Agree - this used to drive me bananas. You may not be adding enough heat, or enough dye. Generally the thread in most clothes is 100% polyester and will not pick up dye easily. The one time I got a perfect result when dyeing jeans (from tan to very deep chocolate brown) was to use one bottle of all-purpose Rit dye in dark brown, and a bottle of synthetic Rit dye in dark brown. I dyed the jeans in the washing machine at 60 degrees Celsius with this mix and both the jeans fabric (cotton-based corduroy) AND stitching dyed perfectly dark brown. I hope this helps you. :)
@@rebecca_stoneThanks you! Awesome info. Surprising how little experimenting is documented. I have a bottle of Rit Brand Purple DyeMore (Synthetic) and Rit Black All Purpose (Cotton) and I finally feel ready to combine the two bottles to dye 7 lbs of old jeans and one white pair of jeans. I bought a 32 Quart aka 31 Liter aluminum pot at Walmart for $32 - I just saw that aluminum can become pitted by the salt so use a pot that you don't care about. I will follow the synthetic instructions with high heat just under boiling about 195 F and stir for 1 hour.

I have a pop-up camper that has the original curtains, which are currently light brown/beige. I would like to dye them teal. I have not been able to find what the fiber content is. It is a tightly woven canvas, medium thickness. I am wondering if it would be worth trying to strip the color that is there or just dying it? I think there are a total of 9 panels, and one is much larger than the others. An article about a pop up renivation mentioned buying 15 yards of fabric to redo curtains if that helps any for my next question. I saw on a dying tutorial about putting all the bottles of dye together and dividing from there.I plan to dye in my top-loader washing machine. Should the dye be divided evenly by loads or by percent of total amount of curtain is in that particular load? In case my last question didn't make sense, let's say one load, A, has two panels, each is two feet by three feet. Then let's say there is another load, B, that is one panel which is 9 feet by 7 feet. Would it be better to do same everything including water, amount of dye, amount of soap for each load or should I put more dye in load B since it is more material?
I would say that if you are looking to get a really saturated teal you will want to strip as much color out of the material before hand (using rit color remover - www.onlinefabricstore.com/rit-color-remover-powder-.htm ) As for the second half of your question, your load B should have more dye since there is more material. You should be using one bottle of dye for ever 2 lbs of material or if you are using powder dye, you will need one box per 1 lb of material.
please I need an answer to this question I have a blue synthetic wig and I want to dye it black with rit dyemore will ritdymore dye it well for me if yes how many rit dyemore should I use to dye it
It's hard to say since different fabrics react very differently. You may be able to get it to a cream or ivory color, but I doubt you could get it to a bright white.
What about a polyester with like 8% spandex? You said the spandex wouldn't get dyed, but would its fibers be noticeable? It's in there to let the polyester be a stretchier fabric, which is what I'm needing.
If i have a shirt that’s exactly 35% polyester 65% cotton, will the all purpose work to dye it? I have two pieces i want to die similar colors so I want to use the same dye for both
I would probably recommend using dye more for both! DyeMore will dye cotton and other natural materials, but the other way around does not work. I would caution that if you used the all purpose, you would dye both, but you might not the same color with the one that is not 100% cotton.

do you have a product that would work well for dying a couch that has a pattern that i want to restore? it is sun bleached on parts of the chair, but i love the chair and the potential it has to come back to life. i don’t want to change the colors on the couch or dye it all one color. there’s about three colors in it, and i would for sure have to use a paint brush to apply the dye. what would my best option be for this project?
I seen a video, it came up in my recommendations on here, it was of a couch dyed with rit dyemore, that might be helpful for you, forget the title but sure you can find it on here if you search rit dyemore couch or something
Serious question!! I have a pleated white %100 polyester skirt that I tried dying red. I used a whole bottle of rit dye more and left it in for almost an hour and it came out pink. Can I re dye it for a more red color or am I stuck with the pink

Thanks for all the good tips! I have a dress that's 95% cotton, 5% spandex. Will it take to the dye since it has a bit of spandex? If so, which dye works best, and should I use a stovetop, bucket, or washing machine method? Thanks again!
I would probably use All Purpose. Dye More isn't going to dye the spandex anyways. When you are looking at the garment, you probably won't be able to tell that a few threads aren't dyed. Good luck!
Oh and I missed the second half of your question.. It is personal preference. I prefer dying in the washing machine because it is a whole lot easier, but it is fun to do over the stove and you have a little more control over the water temp. if you are concerned about shrinking the shirt.
Same i have pair of crye precision g3 combat pamts in khaki but there slowly looking faded and between the legs upper back and slightly around the knees and lower thighs is kinda like a spandex fabric thats stretchy even if its the tanish colpr dye all be happy with that the main fabric is a ripstop cotton meteral i just wana semi restore them even if there not true khaki
I'm trying to Splatter bleaching a black hoodie of mine and dyeing it after. Would the dye effect the black part of the hoodie or just the parts that are bleached?
It will dye the black parts of the hoodie, but that should not matter to much. You can't dye something a lighter color, so at the worst, it will change the undertone of the black color. I would caution though, bleach damages the fabric fibers so the parts that appear white may not show the true color of the dye.
I want to dye a muslin blanket different colors. Can I use a spray bottle abs spray the colors I want using hot water onto a hot muslin blanket and let it sit? Will the color still penetrate?
Yes! Here is what I have done in the past. I applied the dye, and put the whole thing in a plastic bag. Then, I dunked the bag in super hot water and put something on top so it stayed submerged for a while. After about a half hour, I took it out and sprayed it down with Dye Fixative before I rinsed out the dye. Best of luck with your blanket! You got this!

Informative vid. I want to dye my carpet in greens, starting with emerald green with a little bit of pink I and another color, can you advise me how to do it and with which colors would you use? And thank you so much
Okay, start here. We have a Ombre Dye tutorial (ruclips.net/video/9PpIkXBpgMo/видео.html) Check that out and see if that is what you are interested in doing. Then you are going to want to pick out your colors. When you are purchasing, I would get about 2 times more than you think you will need, and also order some muslin or a similar cheep fabric (that you can test the technique on) Then when that comes in you are going to want to do a couple of test runs on the muslin to nail down what you want it to look like. I would recommend kind of sketching it out on a piece of paper, and then dying. There is going to be a learning curve, so that is why I would try it on a cheep fabric first. Then when you are happy with the look that you are getting, make a new dye bath and dye your rug!
I have one black jumpsuit made of polyester. It was bleached by accident for several spots. Would you pls advise which product I should use to restore the bleached spots to black? Thanks a lot.
You can try to dye it with black dye more! (www.onlinefabricstore.com/rit-dye-more-synthetic-graphite-.htm) It is going to help, but bleach can be a little tricky to cover up. It is your best bet though!
I have a cardigan I bought from Target that I am wanting to dye a powder blue. It’s 68% cotton, 16% Recycled Polyester, 15% Acrylic and 1% Spandex. What would you recommend?
You are going to want to use RIT Dye More. You can find it here (dye more comes in more limited colors, so you will want to dilute the dye) - www.onlinefabricstore.com/rit-dyemore-liquid-synthetic-fiber-dye-sapphire-blue-.htm
You could.. but you would have a really hard time keeping it from bleeding so it might be more of a blob (not a spot) You would also need heat it to set the dye permanently, otherwise it is just going to wash out when it gets wet. If I had a little more info, I might be able to help more. Let me know!
Hello I was wondering if you had any tips for a splatter dye? I don't mind bleeding as it's a look I'm going for. I have a polyester and cotton blend and the intended look is to soak the rims of the hood, sleeves, and bottom of the hoodie and have splatters all over. Is it possible to do so and then move to a color stay bath?
Yes, this should work! You may not be able to get very dark splatters because you'll lack sustained heat even if the splatter starts off hot. It might help to use a hair dryer on the splatter spots before the fixative bath.
i am trying to find someone who dyes there shoes with rit WITHOUT water, like can i just dye my converse by hand? (with a tool obv) i don’t care that it will take long because i don’t feel like doing all the water color stuff- can you do that?
Which rit dye I should use to dye cotton shorts with polyester stitching? I hate it when you dye and the stitching doesn't dye because it is made of polyester. I used Dylan dye to colour my cotton shorts. The dye coloured my shorts but not the stitching. The stitching was white. And I do not like that. Thanks.
Thank you for your video, it is really helpful! My question is, do I use salt or vinegar for 100% polyester? I didn't hear that fabric in your list of fabrics.
Thanks for the info! I have a school bag that I want to dye. ( A blend of polyester and nylon). Its teal or cyan as of now and I want to dye it red. What are the chances of this actually working and being red and not purple or a grey?
Unfortunately, since red is a primary color, I don't think there is any way that you can get red out of blue.. You would probably end up with purple. Perhaps you could go with another color like green?
Because dyeing requires heat, it may shrink the fabric. There is also probably a protective coating on the fabric that would be washed off if machine washed or dyed. This can also change the surface texture of the fabric. It's possible your curtains could be dyed nicely, but whenever you dye anything, there's a chance it could come out bad. If there's a curtain you could spare, I'd suggest washing it in hot water first to see if it shrinks too much. If it comes out OK, you can try using Rit DyeMore Synthetic Dye which will dye both synthetic and natural fibers. Good luck!
What can I use to make prints on the solid colors I saw a tutorial and they were using some type of clear liquid and then they dipped it in a full stock of celery and it made the perfect print for a rose
I guess I am not sure what project you are referring to.. What is coming to my mind is a method called Batik dying, here is our tutorial - ruclips.net/video/C4MBRZIQxXI/видео.html You might be talking about a tie dying technique, and I am no professional there, so I would say that your best bet would be to find more channels that specialize in that type of dying. I would stray away from anything like the five minute craft style videos though because I do find that a lot of the projects that channels like that put out short form content in long videos on FB or YT are often not real. I see more often than not that the projects that they put out there will not work. (think the channels that put a cut rose in a banana and then say a rose bush grew from the cutting, it just will not work) I can not say for sure, but putting something in a celery stock seems like it would not product the results that you are speaking about. I could be wrong, but I am super weary with projects like that because "movie magic" is the real trick, not the project itself.

Is tulle a synthetic fiber? I’m not sure if it’s chiffon or nylon.. can I dye it in my bath tub?
please I need an answer to this question I have a blue synthetic wig and I want to dye it black with rit dyemore
will ritdymore dye it well for me if yes how many rit dyemore should I use to dye it
I was wondering if I could dye a yellow sweater white by using colour remover and then possibly bleaching it. Would it work?
It's hard to say since different fabrics react very differently. You may be able to get it to a cream or ivory color, but I doubt you could get it to a bright white.
Can I dye dark clothes with pink fabric dye? Will it work?
Great info! One more question. Can I dye a ski jacket that is a coral red to a dark green or would it just go purple? Thanks!
Unfortunately, I don't think you would be able to get green with a red base. You will have to go with a purplish grey or even a nice wine red!
Could you tell me please, after you dye something but it came light, if you want to be darker, could I re-dye again? Thanks.
Wondering if you can use Solar Salt,...(Soft Water Salt), for dyeing clothes with RIT dye. Totally out of table salt...
What about a polyester with like 8% spandex? You said the spandex wouldn't get dyed, but would its fibers be noticeable? It's in there to let the polyester be a stretchier fabric, which is what I'm needing.
The small amount of spandex shouldn't be a problem as long as you're using Rit DyeMore Synthetic Fiber Dye.
Hi, does the salt need to be iodized for it to work? And for vinegar, is it best to use white vinegar? Thanks!
No, it doesn't have to be iodized, and yes, white vinegar works great!
I want BRIGHT shades but can’t seem to achieve this? I bought a bright sapphire blue and it came out more of a denim cool blue?
I am wanting to dye a top that is like 95% silk and 5% Lycra. It has a lace trim so maybe that’s the lycra? Im trying to figure out if I would be able to dye this a blue cause it’s all white
Do I need to remove metal buttons and hardware when dying? Will metal permanently stain?
Can you use synthetic dye more with cotton?
I got a orange ralph lauren polo shirt that has graphics on it. And i washed it and certain parts of the shirt that is orange colored faded a lil bit. I ordered a bottle of rit dye sunshine orange color. So how can i restore the orange parts of the shirt and not ruin the graphics part of the shirt. Which is white and blue? Its basically only the top part of the shirt thats orange
I want to dye my green tuelle skirt to red. Is the all purpose RIT appropriate?
i have a multi color cotten shirt that id like to make darker would i just dye it black and rinse
Can you dye 100% cotton black shirts with graphics on them? Like Supreme or Vape shirts.
Do you have a video about how to dye bleach stains (on cotton fabric)?
I have a white shirt for work that I have to die royal blue 65% polyester 35% cotton what dye do I use
do you have a product that would work well for dying a couch that has a pattern that i want to restore? it is sun bleached on parts of the chair, but i love the chair and the potential it has to come back to life. i don’t want to change the colors on the couch or dye it all one color. there’s about three colors in it, and i would for sure have to use a paint brush to apply the dye. what would my best option be for this project?
I seen a video, it came up in my recommendations on here, it was of a couch dyed with rit dyemore, that might be helpful for you, forget the title but sure you can find it on here if you search rit dyemore couch or something
Great video, is there a product or chemical to remove dye out of polyester fabric?
My question too
Why does it have to be hot water? I just tie dyed with room temp…seemed to be okay
I have a red fabric and i bought a purple dye, will my red fabric turn purple?
Can I used soda ash instead of salt or combo of both?
Serious question!! I have a pleated white %100 polyester skirt that I tried dying red. I used a whole bottle of rit dye more and left it in for almost an hour and it came out pink. Can I re dye it for a more red color or am I stuck with the pink
Use RIT Dye more. Sounds like you may have used All Purpose. They this dye - www.onlinefabricstore.com/rit-dyemore-liquid-synthetic-fiber-dye-racing-red-.htm
@@darylobey8867 It's worth a shot!
Can you use dye for the stovetop on clothes with a zipper?
Hi, i dyed some material with the brown dye and it came out pink, what do i need to do plz
How do I get the color to come out even? It's very spotty.
So can I dye a swimsuit that’s 95% polyester 5% spandex and it’s machine wash cold ?
Which dye you recommend to use to dye shoes?
Hi! I bought a dress that is 99%polyester and used the Rit dye more synthetic. The color is a beautiful light purple BUT there’s some dark purple patches. What can I do to make it all around even color??
I done grey and have the same problem. Really would love to know how to lighten the spots.
Hi, I have problem where I dye a couple of shirts and I add salt to the dye mixture for the color to stay long but each time I wash the shirt it the color of the shirt becomes lighter and lighter... Please help
Which dye to use for Canvas?
@@onlinefabricstore thanks a lot:))
I have a black and white hoodie that I'm planning on tie dying the white parts. Will the black be stained or shouldit be ok?
You can't dye something a lighter color. You will be dying to black parts, however, it will probably only change the undertones of the black parts.
I need to dye spot on a coat sleeve. Can I just spot dye with a q- tip with RIT instead of soaking the jacket.
Thanks
You could.. but you would have a really hard time keeping it from bleeding so it might be more of a blob (not a spot) You would also need heat it to set the dye permanently, otherwise it is just going to wash out when it gets wet.
@@onlinefabricstore awesome! How long should I use a the dryer for, do you know or would a guess be in play
i am trying to find someone who dyes there shoes with rit WITHOUT water, like can i just dye my converse by hand? (with a tool obv) i don’t care that it will take long because i don’t feel like doing all the water color stuff- can you do that?
Have you thought about dying them in the washing machine? I think that is going to be your best bet! You do need heat for RIT to work.
I have something I'd like to dye that is 69% nylon and 31% cotton, should I use salt or vinegar? Thanks!
Vinegar!

Hello,
I want to dye a wedding veil burnt orange. What dye and color should I use for that? Thank you!
The Rit website also has a TON of information about their dyes including recipes for colors that you can mix together to make whatever color you want!
Will my 100% cotton a hanes white tshirt still dye with rit dye more synthetic?
And if I wanted to do it with coffee how would I do thaf
can i use the all purpose rit dye (powder) to dye shoes or would i have to use the liquid version?? x
Either one is fine. You mix the powder with water so they both end up as liquid when you use it.
Thanks for the video! Would it work if I dye polyester facbric with oil stains?
try taking out the oil stains first. I swear by dawn dish soap (the one with the duck on the bottle) It cuts grease like you could not even believe.
What about dying a Vera Bradley purse?
Which rit dye I should use to dye cotton shorts with polyester stitching? I hate it when you dye and the stitching doesn't dye because it is made of polyester. I used Dylan dye to colour my cotton shorts. The dye coloured my shorts but not the stitching. The stitching was white. And I do not like that. Thanks.
Thank you for your video, it is really helpful! My question is, do I use salt or vinegar for 100% polyester? I didn't hear that fabric in your list of fabrics.
So actually you don't need to use either with polyester! You just use the dye more.
@@onlinefabricstore Thank you! I think I'm gonna go for a darker blue or a green.
@@stephaniehernandezgarcia7275 you can remove the teal color first with a color remover and then dye it red and it will probably do just fine.
my work hoodie has an iron on logo on the chest, if i re dye the hoodie will it ruin the iron on?
I want to dye the white part of a black and white striped hoodie, blue. Will the blue dye affect the black part of the hoodie or just the white part?
Probably not! It could give the black a little bit of a blue hue, but you can't dye something dark lighter. So this should work well for you!
Can I dye curtains that are dry clean only? They were custom made years before I bought the house they came in and no info on what material it is.
What is coming to my mind is a method called Batik dying, here is our tutorial - ruclips.net/video/C4MBRZIQxXI/видео.html
You might be talking about a tie dying technique, and I am no professional there, so I would say that your best bet would be to find more channels that specialize in that type of dying.
I have tan scrubs that have black permanent marker spots on them....if I dye them tan again will it take away the black spots
Unfortunately, no. Dyeing will only add color, not take it away or cover darker spots.
