    Just FYI, several brands have backlight strobing modes. Each company has its own name for it (VRB for Acer, Aim Stablizer for Gigabyte, DyAC for BenQ, ULMB for Dell/Alienware), but they all work the same way, by strobing the backlight with every refresh. Not all are created equal, though. Depending on the backlight type, you can get red fringing on some colors, and monitors don't refresh the whole screen all at once so they need to be tuned well in order to ensure the backlight flickers exactly once per refresh and no information from past refreshes are still present (which means they also need good response times), otherwise you can get double or even triple images.

    This video was the reason I chose this monitor and I cannot thank you enough. I was only after a bit of an upgrade from a 1080p 60hz one but I got way more than I expected. The HDR is fantastic, for the price that is, I also didn’t know how much of an impact it would have on my images, I feel like I’m seeing games, films and tv shows the way the way they intended. And the peak brightness is closer to 500 nits, by my very scientific way of comparing it to that of and iPad Air 2 (410 nits) and an iPhone 8 (530 nits). Thank you again for helping me in this decision.

    @8:20 For me, I realized that I can actually see frames as I move my eyes around with it on (probably something about my vision not disabling during saccades) and that becomes annoying. So I have to keep that blur you get with it off.
    I can also see things like PWM flicker on LED tail lights on cars.

    I own one of these and love it. I'm comming up from a pro art 1080p 60hz display. But even considering the others near this in price and performance. I think this is a solid option for any gamer not looking to spend $1000+ on a screen.
    I honestly think my next upgrade will have to be an 4k oled with 144hz+. And I want it for less then $700. Until then, I'm just gonna run 2 of these

      27 inch 260hz 2k resolution
      it's perfect, to be honest especially mine comes with built-in speakers

      Because these monitors aren't capable of 170hz without severe screen flicker. I even notice slight flickering on 155hz (overclocked 10 hz).
      They are false advertising anywhere near 170hz, these monitors are only really made for 144hz based on my use of them and what I've experienced along the way.

    My pet peeve about 144hz+ displays is that I don't feel like I can use the extra refresh rate because you also want to be able to properly support 24 and 30fps content without jitter and I'm not sure that VFR/Freesync actually fix this issue for video playback.

    • @Berengal
      @Berengal 2 года назад +3

      If any integer multiple of the framerate you want to display falls in the refresh rate range of your VRR display, any sufficiently advanced video player should be able to avoid any jitter by just duplicating frames. 24 fps content can be viewed at 72 fps with exact timings by displaying each original frame three times on the output.

      For this monitor I’ve had about 7-8 of them. Why? Because I bought it on Amazon for over $400 and it kept dropping by like $20 so I kept returning it for the better sale price. Recently it just dropped to $299 and I returned it again and ordered it at the price. Currently waiting for it in the mail. But out of all of them that I’ve had not a single one had dead pixels and ALL of them were great out of the box. Ofc I added in the rtings color calibration. But I think either you’re tripping or have really bad luck, however I don’t think their QC is lacking. Acer is the king in that department.

    I've had this monitor for a year now. It's a decent monitor, except whenever it goes into sleep mode or is powered off it loses all connection to the GPU, like if the cable was unplugged, and it's I N F U R I A T I N G. It messes up every window manager I've tried, on multiple machines with GPUs from all three vendors. Windows, KDE, Gnome, whatever it is, all of them mess up window positions, display settings, resolution, sometimes the window manager or GPU driver crashes. Sometimes it works fine, too often it doesn't. I've had to disable monitor sleep completely.
