to answer his question why people are lonely in america is simple: It's the culture - individualism

    • @TimelessFoodTravels

@@1966bluemaxindividualism has been one of the core pillars of American society for generations. The current "epidemic of loneliness" is a relatively new phenomenon. Maybe the type of individualism has changed, where people are becoming withdrawn from the real world and immerse themselves into targeted social media bubbles.

Filipinos know that their infrastructures had been stagnant for several decades. Their Metro Rail was the first in Asia and lots were in blueprint following through but building boom was hindered by communist-supporting liberal politicians.

@@travelingtheworldonfingers9156 Filipino taxpayers paid for Marcos Sr's foreign debt for decades. Marcos Sr. filled his personal pockets to the brim. We needed to repair the severe damage he brought to the country. Communism was never a threat and today its followers are barely half a million people. Unbridled greed has always been the problem. The Bank Secrecy Law enables the thieves in government to pillage our national treasury. Good luck to the Millenials and Gen Z's who will break their backs paying 14 trillion pesos in the coming decades. That is 14,000,000,000,000.00!

Do yourself a favor, if you want City life then hit anything Cebu City
I hate Manila but I rather be in Manila then Bangkok Thailand ~ BKK is expansive to live and heard that you need at least $2500 to $3000 to be living OK? You know to live with a nice place, good food, coffee in the morning and going out to have a beer or two ~ And also these two guys are living BGC, the business area in Manila where the airport is? I sure there are areas cheaper in Manila then near the airport. The reason why you are paying $2000 a month because of BGC ~ When I even land in Manila airport, it's $100 a day. If you love the city life like I do ~ I always plug Cebu City!!!! Cebu City is like South Beach, Miami without the cost. When I hit Cebu on vacation for 30days, I bring like $2000 cash, Credit Cards and $1000 back up in the bank in Florida. I use the credit card for 1000php a night Hotels ~ I stay within the city and I have a blast for $1000 for 30 days and I still come home with $500 to $600 in my pocket ~ So that 20% more they are talking about is Manila ~ In March I'm moving to Lapu Lapu and my rent for any house, apartment is $200 a month. All in around $800 to $1200 a month.

I'm old as dirt. Retired 22 years ago at 45. Social media is mostly fantasy. Careful. IMO he is not an entrepreneur. That's just a title many people under 40 love to give themselves. He's trying to make a living doing gigs, living paycheck to paycheck. That's not financially independent. Homeless people are financially independent. Not trying to rain on this guy, I think he's doing great. But the way he presents it is for entertainment to get views. Good for him. There are young people stuck in countries who ran out of money and beg for food.

I think in the US the loneliness epidemic is due to the fact that we don’t have strong familial and friendship ties. Like you say, when you turn 18, you’re out of the house. Other countries, family often lives together multigenerationally and remains close. The work hustle culture too in the U.S. prevents people from having lives outside of work because of cost of living. Many people have 2-3 jobs just to scrape by so where does that leave time to socialize? The U.S. is messed up in so many regards including loneliness.

I almost said hi but didn’t want to be rude. BGC is very walkable and beautiful; and pricey for an average Filipino, but I can see $4000/per month if I were to live here. Our lunch, with one drink each was $45, which is good for America, but can add up here, which is why I’m saying for me $4k if I were to live here.

I also lived in Chicago for a long time too. I just recently retired and came to Manila to experience. I was born here but left for US in 1977. Im an IT person too for the last 50 years and travelled the world on my job. I enjoyed traveling and basically you have given me some inside information on how to live and survive here in Philippines. I only came back to Philippines for 4 times since 1977 and stayed only for a week on every trip. Now im here for the last 4 weeks and still trying to adjust to my surroundings. Buying BGC condo is another thing. Hopefully i can do it and adjust to it. Thanks for the information and hope to meet you in person one of this day.

Man, I moved to Canada when I was 18 and it took me 10 years to finally afford to vacation to Philippines. When I visited, I fell in love with the Philippines right away. I felt alive once again, like back to my old self. All my childhood friends are happy, they have good careers but their life does not revolve around work, per hr, ot, money etc. I moved back to Philippines in 2019. I managed to open 6 gyms and 1 restaurant. It was a dream come true! I was making good money and bought properties. Then covid happened. Obliterated all my businesses. I could not re-open because sales and the business landscape never recovered due to inflation. Back to Canada for now. I feel like I am as good as dead here even with decent income as a nurse, life or lack thereof it sucks here. Home is calling me. It breaks my heart everyday that I don't have the means to live in the Philippines. I really envy the people that can live a happy and comfortable life in the Philippines. Will try again. Thanks for the video 💙

A great interview Evan, thanks. I've just taken early retirement from the UK, and come to live in Makati, to travel around the Philippines, with a budget of £3000(sterling) per month. As I've only been here for a couple of weeks it's good to hear people saying that £3000 is a budget on which you can live a really good life in the Philippines. I would say, though, that I would prefer Makati to BGC, just for the street food, which is a whole new experience for me, and new experiences are why I came here. I think Makati, in some places, can be a bit rough around the edges, but not in a dangerous or bad way, it just has character. BGC is a very nice place but it's also very "perfect".

Another great interview Evan, good to hear from someone who isn't settled down and travels all over Asian. The loneliness issue I do believe has to do with the lack of the generational family social structure and the attitude people have to each other. Like you mention, the friendly culture of the Philippines directly affects the feeling of loneliness. Family is very important to most Asian nations, not so much in the USA plus the number of broken families in the USA is epidemic too.

I also agree that Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia are all cheaper than the Philippines and the accommodations and food are much nicer for the same price in all other countries. All other countries have better food and I agree Thai food is the best. The Street food in Thailand ist best and I would never eat the street food in Vietnam and the Philippines. The only other country that has fairly good English is Malaysia. The Philippines has the friendliness of the people, English, and the 3 year tourist visa trumps all other lessor things about the Philippines. In Zane's defence when it comes to his expenses compare what he's doing and the expense traveling around the US and Canada or Western Europe $3500 would be spent just on accommodations.

Been in Thailand since 2010 and still counting, when it comes to food when you are still new in the country, yes, food is great it gives you excitement because of this new taste. But now for more than a decade, I think I like more Filipino food for more varieties. Here our choices are Nodles, yes, I love som tam papaya salad which is very famous, and fresh veggies which I can also find in Ph. Kao suey, and fried fish from fresh water when you stay in the north,it is very difficult to find fresh fish or seafood and also the taste is more on spicy, and sweet. Unlike in Ph where you can enjoy fresh fish anywhere in the country as we are surrounded by the sea. But when it comes to vegetarians Thailand is the winner, because in Ph we are more meaty and very seldom to find vegetables on the Filipino Menu. But in Ph, if you try to explore the food from different provinces I could say we have it all. The choices are unlimited. I love it in here though, but also planning to return to Ph for good, the only thing I miss is the fresh fish as we are living in the northern part. I also agree that Thailand is way cheaper than in Ph. Ph more way to go.

You don't have to be a genius to know that one of the reasons Zane considers PH as his home base over Thailand, given that the latter is actually 20-50% less expensive, is because PH is very westernized and feels more like the US compared to Thailand. Jasper in the Philippines pointed this out too. Some Americans prefer living in PH than Thailand while a lot of Americans prefer visiting/touring/vacationing Thailand over PH is because of cost, culture and the big one which is s _ _ , which is pretty obvious. Isaac and Tyler from Trifate Lifestyle also mentioned that one of the reasons why they chose PH as their home base is because it still feels like their back in the US, but far less expensive.

Thailand is more tourist-centric so its not as less westernized than PH infrastracturally. culturally, i think most tourists like thailand's exoticity. Philippines does not really showcase their culture since its not tourist-centric. its very americanized in a way that the culture is thrown away (same way in the US). but unlike the US, the PH has a lot of poor districts. poor districts + no showcase culture = tourist bored and uncomfy

It all depends on what you are used to or comfortable with. I pay for my gf's flat in Laguna. 2 bedrooms. one bedroom is large enough for a queen size bed. The other bedroom is big enough for a full size bed. it is located in what is considered to be one of the best baranguay in San Pablo City. Rent for this flat? $65 per month. Does it have a modern shower? No. But it is fine with me until our house is built in about a year. I don't like eating out. I guess I have had mostly bad luck with restaurants in the Philippines. I do much better with my gf's family's cooking. It's healthier and fresher, and I don't find myself running to the toilet after eating. I dont get squeamish in the public markets. I've lived in Los Angeles all of my adult life. I don't need all the modern conveniences...only SOME modern conveniences.
So paying for food rent and utilities for 3 people...I'd be lying if I said I'm paying $800 per month. When I move there permanently (soon), it still might not top $800 per month. One more mouth to feed is not going to increase expenses much. Especially the way I eat.

I think food cost more in the Philippines because there is simply more demand for it because of the population. Accommodation is more expensive because credit is tight. In fact most people don't have debt so most of the capital is sourced from savings so a faster return on investment is preferred and there is also the large gap between the rich and poor, so your expected clients are rich or have saved enough.

Lately though, labor unions have made inroads re equitability, so that’s good for American workers. Another thing that would truly make America great again is if the government raised top bracket for rich people to 50%. That’s still lower than pre-Reagan rate. This always gets pushback from non-rich people who think they’ll hit the lottery someday or just have this irrational love for rich people.
