Hello, thank you for the lecture. In 9.11 you said “maltose is a disaccharide, fructose is another one”. My understanding is that ribose, glucose, fructose and galactose are all monosaccharides. Maltose, lactose and sucrose are disaccharides. Any comments would be appreciated

hi everyone ,if anyone else trying to find out human body anatomical diagram try Laophiaa Cranial Blueprint (just google it ) ? Ive heard some amazing things about it and my brother in law got great results with it.
I just started going through Khan Academy videos trying to understand cell metabolism and came across your video, where everything is already nicely summarized! One thing I was hoping to understand better is the difference between the metabolism where fat as the source of energy vs. glucose. Also, agree with David's comment, there has been a lot of criticism of the current theory that demonizes saturated fats. Another view is that glucose, being the quick source of energy, comes at a price (heart disease, diabetes, etc), while fat based metabolism is a much healthier alternative (Jeff Volek has a lot more to say about this :)) This is why I was hoping to learn more about the details of ATP generation from fat.
The saturated/unsaturated fat vs plaque formation is a bit more complicated and not all unsaturated fats are healthy

when you say it is easiest to break down carbohydrate for energy what does that mean. What does easy mean at the cellular level. Is it to
do with the amount of energy lost to heat?
Ok a nice explanation up to the end. At 1:07.00 you get onto the food pyramid. A Vegan one. While a Vegan diet is fine for a grown male, for children and potential mothers it has a lack of essential minerals and micro nutrients.
The basis of the "advise" is so very old and way out of date even in 2015.
Sugar and HFCS is far more dangerous than animal fats. Palm Oil has the same Cholesterol as Butter but none of the vitamins and minerals.
I have a rare metabolic disease which means I cannot metabolize Fructose Fruit Sugar.
Those of us with this condition do really very well without eating ANY FRUIT OR VEGETABLES at all.
I would not recomend a zero fruit or Vegetable diet if you can eat vegetables do so.
However it is anything but essential for a healthy diet.
isn´t the microbiome of a human considered a part of the body? i´d love seeing something regarding it ! ;)
No mention here when talking about lipids regarding LDL-P phenotype A and phenotype B saturated fatty acids drive phenotype A and sugar drives triglycerides which reduce the effectiveness of HDL-C.

Slightly wrong. Fructose is a mono Saccharide not Disaccharide. Sucrose a 50/50% mix of Glucose and Fructose is a disaccharide.

It is a good one off product for mastering human anatomy and physiology in 3 days or less without the headache. Ive heard some decent things about it and my work buddy at last got cool results with it.

fiber isn't supposed to be "like draino." some fiber is, though. surprising how some people code it sometimes...40% dv should be enough for a balanced gut effect, but sometimes it's coded incorrectly. a supposed "gifted child's" "crazy shit" game.
Liked the explanations and the slides of molecular structure and chemistry. I feel that there are some teaching points that needs to be revised. Students find it very hard to unlearn ideas. When we use terms like good and bad cholesterol, and make statements like “proteins, lipids and carbohydrates are essential” then we make it hard for students to reconcile data that shows us LDL are not so predictive of morbidity and mortality, and that carbohydrates are referred to as non-essential elsewhere. Students of nutrition need to question how valid concepts of good and bad cholesterol really are by looking at evidence that both supports and refutes the idea, not just look to textbooks or guidelines. Whenever they are based on flawed science then their content is questionable.
Personification of cells does not help with understanding. “It is easier for a cell to use glycogen than fat” implies that the cell has feelings. Sometimes texts will use the term ‘preferred pathway’ as though the cell has an option which t chooses. Your lack of exploration of the value of fat oxidation and ketone use for fuel does not acknowledge the body of evidence that demonstrates that high carbohydrate diets are not the only way to safely fuel the human body for everyday life and for athletic pursuits.
Wearing glasses would not solve a single eye issue caused by vitamin A defiency

I see this us a 2 year old lecture, hope you've updated everything, like we dont need carbs, ldl isnt bad, most veggies are horrible for humans and the vegans are dropping like flies, but up until the "fats" section it is a great explanation.
People like you who fill their knowledge with silly ridiculous advertisements are not worthy of listening to simply because your aim is not to benefit others but benefit your bank account!!!!!
