Just make sure you're OK with the neck. I love the slim neck on mine, but if you don't like it and just can't adjust to it, your better option would be a Hallmark 60 Custom or 65 Custom.
+WaRLoKWYATT Yeah. It belonged to my sisters boyfriend at the time (late 70's). When they broke up he left the guitar at our house for 8 years. I was heartbroken when he finally called and picked it up. I had some great times playing it, and it was my main guitar while learning to play. I played it through an Ampeg Gemini II amp. Seeing Mark's great video brought up a lot of good memories.

He was quite a few years older than me and taught me my very first simple pentatonic lick. I still use it to this day. Looking back he really inspired me to stick with the guitar and I haven't put it down since. Tried to find him on Facebook to thank him, but no luck.
Slab body. Skinny neck. Headstock is sweet and I read somewhere Kurt's cobain's jagstang had a similar 3&3 Headstock design but fender had to fenderize it. Hard tail. I'm lefty so I've only played Eastwood copy's but I've played an upside down mosrite. Makes me want one now just thinking about it

I worked for Semie Moseley during the Summer of 1963 in his shop on Panama Lane, Bakersfield CA. I am looking the discarded body of a flamed guitar I made just before I went into the Air Force. It was last seen at the P Street Factory. It is the same design as the one Semie and I sold to Dave Meyers and The Surftones. A photograph of this guitar is found by a Google search using the keywords: Dave Meyers Mosrite

My first real electric was a blue Mark II. The first one didn't have the sculptured body. When it developed some electrical problem under warranty, the store sent it back, and I got a new Mark II with the Mark I body (but the pickups didn't have individual magnets). I loved it.
Did you ever post on a Mosrite Facebook page about this? I've heard that same story by someone on Facebook. There were very few of the kind you had, and if you ever see this, sending info about the "Slab" model (the one you called "Mark II") that you had would be appreciated by us few Mosrite historians who try compiling the company's history. What color was your Slab model?

However, Mosrite confusingly had a second Ventures II model that replaced the first one that Johnny had, and the later one was eventually re-named the "Ventures Mark V." To designate which Ventures II is which, Mosrite enthusiasts have started calling them the "Ventures II 'Slab Body'" and "Ventures II 'German Carve'" models, or "Slab Ventures II" and "Carved Ventures II." I have a Carved Ventures II.

Couple of songs on their first album were done on Strat believe it or not. There’s also the acoustic guitar he plays in Rock n Roll High School movie 🎸

He's been dead for years, too, which isn't a surprise; he was ridiculously fat, and one of the last pieces of video footage of him (probably in the last month of his life, it was uploaded maybe 10 days before he died) shows him looking incredibly unhealthy and pale.

Great work out !!! I always thought this guitar did not get the high profile and longevity it deserved. All my buddies who were more proficient players than me at the time said they did not like them because they said poor workmnship quality did not live up to Gibson or Fender etc.Nice sounds.Keep up the good work.
My dad picked up a similar guitar. Probably a newer model, but he had it signed by 2 of the surviving founders of the ventures at the time. He got it in a trade with some cash on his end but he got it from Nokki Edward's nephew who owned a music shop in Puyallup Washington. Allegedly it's a limited run, but I'm also not going to assume the value of something like that tbh.
He owned two actual Mosrites in his life/career. A rare-as-hell Gospel (similar color to the one in this video) that he used before Nevermind was recorded - was said to be one of his favorites and is why he never smashed it, but for what ever reason he eventually pawned it - it has since been auctioned off for HUGE amounts, but it's also because the model that it was was apparently rare (something to the effect of "It is the only known example of a Mark IV style Mosrite Gospel model", and there's only two in existence, the one Kurt had, and the daughter of Mosrite's founder Semie Moseley has the other one). Anyone can find video clips from earlier Nirvana shows where he used the Gospel (Motor Sports show in 1990, North Shore Surf Club 1990, and a rehearsal video they made in 1991 as just a few examples). He had a habit of doing that. EDIT: I may be wrong about the truss rod adjustment being at the body end. EDIT 2: Cobain's was B1697, the highest number I've heard of is B1700.

He introduced the Strat to England, after all! I grew up on The Ventures and I think they were less stylized and more versatile while not as original, I guess. But they were incred- ibly well versed in all forms of pop, rock, surf, anything on the radio. They set the standard for early American guitar bands. Rhythm and lead, rhythm and lead. Like, oh say ... The Beatles? Stones? Beach Boys? Ventures and Shadows were popular at exactly the same time and each had a profound influence. Can't get much better than Apache, and Walk Don't Run, right? I can tell you that those Ventures guitar players were way better than anything else out there except Scotty Moore, James Burton and, of course (RIP) Chuck Berry.

It might have been in January of 1969 I held a new one for which they were asking about $325.. I had already just bought a new Gibson SG for about that same price so I couldn't afford to get it. I still dream of owning one just like in this video. I was a big Ventures fan. Now these guitars cost thousands instead of hundreds.
I bought one in 1965 in san diego,ca while in the navy. I played all over the orient and had to protect my AX all the time. players mouths fell open when i opened my case. No effort to play.
Jimi Hendrix used a Fender Jazzmaster that he played upside down to make it Lefthanded. He used a jazzmaster for years before buying his Strat along with a Duosonic before that. Jimi can be seen with his Fender Jazzmaster during his work with Little Richard and The Isley Brothers before he went solo. Semie Mosley originally worked for Pre CBS Fender and designed his Mosrite Guitar as a "Reverse Style" Jazzmaster body. The Ventures played Jazzmasters before they switched to Mosrites.Pretty sure Hendrix never played a mosrite and its the "upside down" Jazzmaster you're thinking of which is very similar to the mosrite body. Fender made the "Supersonic" years later inspired from Jimis upside down Jazzmaster. That's why Supersonics have a reverse headstock. Steven Seagal owns Jimis Jazzmaster presently.. He did play Univox Hi Flier models but he also had two Mosrite MK Vs, one with a "Gospel" name on it. He played the Gospel one mostly in 1990 and I never saw pics of him playing the blue one live though Pat played it at least once on SNL 93.
Many don't, but I do. I've copped his guitar tone pretty well with my 66 Mosrite, but I never uploaded a video. His tone is heavy with overdrive, thick strings, and alternate tunings.
I find it weird they don't mention Eric Braunn of Iron Butterfly for his use of the 65 Mosrite ventures. If anyone put Mosrite on the map it was him. He was considered by the best guitarists of the time such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to be one the best. He even co-wrote and recorded In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida at 17.
Exactly. The tones that Eric Brann was making with Iron Butterfly defined psychedelic music and pointed the way to prog. The distortion and effects he used in the Iron Butterfly Theme were right up there with anything Hendrix did in the day.
As a big fan of Erik Braunn myself, I'm with you. And don't forget, Erik's Iron Butterfly predecessor, Danny Weis (from IB's 1st album, "Heavy"), also an outstanding guitarist, who played with IB that exact same Mosrite Venture's model guitar, before selling it to Erik Braunn, as Erik was joining IB!
I'm 65 years old. Erik Brann ( Iron Butterfly ) immortalized this guitar during his epic leads when he played In-a-Gadda-da-vida in 1968......

I bought one in 1965 in san diego,ca while in the navy. I played all over the orient and had to protect my AX all the time. players mouths fell open when i opened my case. No effort to play.

Jimi Hendrix used a Fender Jazzmaster that he played upside down to make it Lefthanded. He used a jazzmaster for years before buying his Strat along with a Duosonic before that. Jimi can be seen with his Fender Jazzmaster during his work with Little Richard and The Isley Brothers before he went solo. Semie Mosley originally worked for Pre CBS Fender and designed his Mosrite Guitar as a "Reverse Style" Jazzmaster body. The Ventures played Jazzmasters before they switched to Mosrites.Pretty sure Hendrix never played a mosrite and its the "upside down" Jazzmaster you're thinking of which is very similar to the mosrite body. Fender made the "Supersonic" years later inspired from Jimis upside down Jazzmaster. That's why Supersonics have a reverse headstock. Steven Seagal owns Jimis Jazzmaster presently.. He did play Univox Hi Flier models but he also had two Mosrite MK Vs, one with a "Gospel" name on it. He played the Gospel one mostly in 1990 and I never saw pics of him playing the blue one live though Pat played it at least once on SNL 93.

Many don't, but I do. I've copped his guitar tone pretty well with my 66 Mosrite, but I never uploaded a video. His tone is heavy with overdrive, thick strings, and alternate tunings.

I find it weird they don't mention Eric Braunn of Iron Butterfly for his use of the 65 Mosrite ventures. If anyone put Mosrite on the map it was him. He was considered by the best guitarists of the time such as Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix to be one the best. He even co-wrote and recorded In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida at 17.
Exactly. The tones that Eric Brann was making with Iron Butterfly defined psychedelic music and pointed the way to prog. The distortion and effects he used in the Iron Butterfly Theme were right up there with anything Hendrix did in the day.
As a big fan of Erik Braunn myself, I'm with you. And don't forget, Erik's Iron Butterfly predecessor, Danny Weis (from IB's 1st album, "Heavy"), also an outstanding guitarist, who played with IB that exact same Mosrite Venture's model guitar, before selling it to Erik Braunn, as Erik was joining IB!
