Back with something a little different. Instead of recording just one guitar track over the CD version, I used Demucs to strip out the guitars and re-recorded all the tracks, then played over that. So we have the original vocals, bass, and drums but no hiding behind Chuck and James.

A bit about my tone:
I'm using 2 instances of Bias FX (1, not Bias FX 2), panned slightly left and right in Ableton Live. Both instances have separate presets. I've uploaded these presets to the Bias FX Tonecloud (in both Bias FX 1 and 2). The presets are called "DeathLeftSide" and "DeathRightSide". The tone I'm using was built in Bias FX 1. I have migrated it directly to Bias FX 2, but it sounds different and I haven't tweaked it.
Apart from Bias plugins, I'm also using an EQ and a Gate in Ableton before Bias, and more EQ after Bias. Long story short: I scooped out a TON of mids and took a good chunk of the boominess out of the low end.
I LOVE THATS SONG, I LOVE THE SECOND SOLO!!!!
the tempo change at 3:51 never gets old
Such a contrast from the insanity before it! Can be fairly difficult to go from one to the other, like trying to slam the brakes on a truck doing 100mph.
PS. I love your everchanging name.
BEST ALBUM EVER!!!
Superb cover and your whole channel is grade A+! You're one of the very few people who "gets" Chuck's playing style in solos!
Thanks also for sharing the info about demucs! I stumbled on it through this video and I had to find out does it actually work and it does! Truly a wonder for us people who make covers! :)
Thanks mate. That's a tall compliment! I try to mimic him as best I can so it's much appreciated.
Did you use demucs? It's amazing! I had to employ some extra tricks like filtering out the low and high end of the demucs-isolated tracks and blending them in with the low and high end of the original song, but for the purposes of what I'm doing it's phenomenal.
Never mind. I see you used it on Symbolic. Your replacement guitars sound almost identical to the original. Fair play man, keep it up!
Yeah, I also tried to filter out some frequencies to make a better bass track but ended up just using the raw tracks.
And I was pondering if I should blend original guitars at about -13dB for some extra crispness but I ditched the idea.
These things take a lot of time because I'm a perfectionist. It's a sickness really! :D
@@Anarcissos preaching to the choir haha. Seems to be working for you though mate, you capture certain nuances in his leads far better than I can.
Well thank you, but I honestly think you are on the same level with me. Your riff playing is really tight, you have really good tone and you capture the soul of Chuck's lead playing 100% :)
Flawless, awesome. I am new fan of your channel 🤘
And I'm a new fan of you! ❤
Sick man, keep it up, great playing and great quality recordings.
This cover is raw as hell. I love it!
Excellent job👏 RIP Chuck 🤘
Man i was gone for so long and i come back to see your videos. You just made my day :)
This is so good, your mix sounds very heavy!
an unbelievably well played solo ♥️
Badass cover 🤘 I see you're rocking that signature bc rich stealth too!
Awesome!!
O0 Yeah rock on my friend that very good keep it up :D !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great channel, dedicated to a great band
I think it’s all said already before- very nice playing and great sound 🔥🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
Love this song and many more of the golden era, keep on!
I did a Spiritual Healing cover on my channel and I’m aware of the fact that it’s far from your perfection in playing 😅
I’m still a beginner and do no solos and stuff but it feels so cool to play along and feel the spirit of the band surrounding you.
Your videos are very inspiring to improve myself!
Thanks for the support mate!
I just checked out your Spiritual Healing video and it's very impressive for someone who considers themselves a "beginner". I really like your tone. And I fucking love that V! It's gorgeous. Keep it up man! You've a new subscriber so keep them coming.
@@DeathCovers thanks so much mate, for the kind words!
I played two times in my life, first between 15-17 and started again last year at 43 with not much skills left but with the motivation not to stop again.
Got me a nice amp and started basically all over again. I was a huge Death fan back then and refreshed my love to music in general this way…
On the fast parts there are still some mistakes here and there so it will take time to get more routine but it’s not for a career, it’s for having fun.
Keep it up, too - you are much more talented and need to join a band when the time is right again 😷😜🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
@@robertschererx good on you for starting back up! I went through a good few years where I barely played. I'd pick it up for a half hour once every 6 months or so. But I'm glad I got back into it. I still don't practice nearly as much as I should but, like you said: it's for fun, not a job!
Sounds lovely and flawless...
Thank you.
Fantastic!
Flawless cover! You should also cover genetic reconstruction on that same album!
I should do them all... that's the ultimate goal. It's just a matter of getting there 😂
@@DeathCovers I'm learning all of them myself as well, my goal is to be able to play every death song back to back from each album!
@@mechamaniac2688 it's a good goal! And one that I achieved a few years ago, which is why I started the channel: to prove it. But life and laziness (for want of a better word) got in the way of my uploads and now it's on the backburner.
I have, at one time or another, learned and played every single song from every album, give or take a solo here and there. I've definitely forgotten a good amount from SBG, maybe a couple of parts from Leprosy, but I'd be confident enough that if given a few days I could get back into the swing of playing the entire catalogue. I'll probably be retired before this all gets done 😅
@@DeathCovers Hell yeah my man! Currently learning symbolic songs too, they're so fun to play through. I also get lazy like you mentioned, but I remember that learning and playing death songs isn't considered a waste of time. And I also do this so Chuck's legacy may never die!
@@mechamaniac2688 You and I are birds of a feather 😉
Excellent. 🤘🙂
Within the Mind next?
One of my favourites! It's about 10 tracks down the list but I'll try to get to it 😅
Best cover ever 🤘🤘🤘
Excelente, saludos desde México.
One of my fav albums the riffs and solos between Chuck & James were badass on this album....killing spree is probably my favorite off this album soo sinister sounding towards the end!! I think people totally dont give enough credit to the drummer on this and previous album Bill Andrews was definitely a decent drummer he could hold his own...but I think he gets overshadowed by players like Sean Reinert & Gene Hoglan is maybe why
love it
!!!😊 Po čertoch skvelý album🦾🗿🛸🇸🇰
Fucking amazing
Great job
Im try tô slow down and discover the note on the album
It sounds dark and imposing, this is heavy...😃😃😃😃
Sick ton, sick cover...u got new subscriber is that the Bs Rich on Chuck and where did u get this guitar ?
Thanks mate! It's the BC Rich Stealth Legacy. Got it from Thomann.de.
🙂🤘
😢❤😊😊
Если разобрать на технику, то это очень сложное исполнение
Спасибо, мой друг!
Thought you were dead bro XD
Good job man 👏
