Anyone who doesn't agree needs to watch What's Eating Gilbert Grape!!! Crazy thing is, he only gets better with age!!! Imo...
What I think makes this even more incredible is the soft background. Birds chirping, it being a beautiful day.
That women's acting sends shivers down the spine.
That devilish smile "my school is"... creeps me out
Michelle Williams. She did a freaking great job in this role. She was is Heath Ledger's real life Widow.
*woman
Michelle Williams, seriously underrated actress. Like Leo used to be, she's been nominated for an Oscar many, many times but has yet to win; she's well overdue for it IMHO.
Being the mother of a small child, I can say this is the definition of horror. It is literally the most horrific, uncomprehendable thing I could possibly imagine. And the worst part of it is, it's real. Things like this happen. The acting in this just makes it even more chilling.
Andrea Yates. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if they loosely based the plot on her case.
Same thing happened in my country 1 week ago. Except there were 2 kids
People don’t take postpartum depression seriously. And postpartum depression isn’t just after the birth. It can linger for years.
Yes, it happens, specially in countries where the U.S. have dropped bombs, I don’t think those parents will be able to forgive, nor forget.
@@ignotas557 may i ask where you are from
I still think this is his best performance. Absolutely flawless
I agree… I honestly don’t know how He did it…I hope they only had to do one take. He’s just phenomenal ❤
To me its this and the dîner scene from Django Unchained. He cut his hand for réal while remaining in character
Bro that gun shot scared the living shit out of me.

OMG ME TOOOO 😢
I loved this movie. Without any jokes I would
really say that loving someone With mental
Illness is very difficult.
I was in a relationship with someone who had
paranoid schizophrenic disorder and I felt so
powerless on how to help her. I loved her but
everyday it felt like I couldn't tell if I was sane
or not as well.
The scene where Leo lost his kids and wife
was heartbreaking; mental illness isn't a joke.
Always be there for the ones you love,
sometimes you may lose them; but the most
painful is having them there but not knowing
who they are anymore.
My boyfriend too had a schizophrenia and he was in hospital I've meet him he looks normal but suddenly he change his personality very quick, I feel bad for him but what can I help is moral support.

Let alone the fact that he didn't win an Oscar for this performance, but he was not even nominated... That is what really disappoints me.
Especially this scene alone … the emotions of losing everything all at once.
Thats because no one believe, that he is acting, that's why!!!
Oscar =woke feminism
I cry everytime I see this scene. Powerful Film till this day.
Most heartbreaking scene ever, depression is really dangerous disease
it's not depression what she haves. it's schizophrenia.
Lol what depression 🤡
@Thanostimer No, its called schizophrenia
@@ellie4799 probably she has bipolar disorder with psychosis or depression with psychosis. The psychosis are dengerous and let some people to murder. They can be accociated with depression or Mood disorders in general

I dont know why Martin Scorsese said he regretted making this movie. I think its a masterpiece with a clever twist.
It’s one of my favorites… and yep that twist was heartbreaking and clever.
What's the twist😊
@@laurasaw6933your mother was a whooooore
@@laurasaw6933 Watch the movie 😊
@@laurasaw6933i assume you havent seen the movie, so do see the movie. Its such a great twist that i cannot do it justice here.
If you have watched it, and are confused, which is understandable, ill explain it. From the start of the movie, we are led to believe that Dicaprio's character(called Teddy in the movie) is a police detective investigating a disappearance in an island for mental illness patients. Throughout the movie, we get small bits and pieces of both Teddy's backstory, and the story of all the doctors etc. From what we see of Teddy's backstory, we see that hes a veteran of world war 2, and has ptsd from it. His wife had also burned to death. His wife was killed by an arsonist, and the real reason he took the case is to find the arsonist. But it is all very confusing. Similarly, we and Teddy are led to believe that the island is conducting human experiments on the patients, and that his partner (chuck) is in on it. In between there are some weird trippy sequences, that support the theory of human experiments (but on second viewing also foreshadows the twist)
But the real twist comes when Teddy finally confronts everyone. After a bit of back and forth, and some fighting, it is revealed that Teddy is not a detective. His real name is Andrew, and he is actually a patient in the island, and has been for two years. He was imprisoned for killing his wife, after she killed their children (his wife was manic depressive). He had been regularly delusional in his two years, and during those times the doctors had tried many things to get him out of his delusion. This was their final attempt, and it was to play along with his delusions and then reveal it to Andrew when the time is right. If this failed he would be lobotomized.
After that reveal is when we get the clip here, where his real backstory is shown etc. He recounts the truth, and they note that he is recovering. But warn that if he regresses, he will still be lobotomized (he had actually reached a similar clarity a few months prior, but then regressed back to his delusions)
There is actually another smaller twist too. We, and the doctors are then led to believe by Andrew that even after all that, Andrew has regressed and that the attempt has failed. As Andrew is being sent to be lobotomized, he asks Chuck "Is it better to live as a monster or to die as a good man?" Chuck can't answer, and as Andrew is being taken away, Chuck calls out to Andrew as Teddy, but Andrew doesn't respond. Because it turns out that Andrew didn't actually regress, and instead chose to die a good and ignorant man than to live with the knowledge of his past.
I never get over Leo’s acting and so okay of the most immense pain you could imagine. I always thought this scene was INCREDIBLE and required great talent to achieve. It feels so real to me every time.
I agree as well, furthermore this scene alone was enough to make me seriously recognize and respect him in his field.
Events like the ones in this scene are extreme examples of reality that some people experience, and the way in which he portrays out the result of something like that is simply top-tier imo. Some would probably even argue that something like this cannot be faked, in a certain way at least.
1:04 to 2:05 is pure acting genius from Leo. That first “oh my god” is the awareness of something wrong, the second is the acceptance that something is wrong and the denial is real when he grabs his kids out the lake. Great film and performance 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
"They'll be our living dolls" Jesus christ 😨
How hasn’t this man won at least 5 Oscar’s ???
Oscars mean nothing where’s the bread at
Because it is corrupt.. I worked briefly with them… I watched behind the scenes. It is like a popularity contest and not a raw contest

HE DID A BEYOND EXCELLENT JOB IN THIS SCENE!
for me ... this scene is one of the most difficult scenes to watch in cinema history.
Imo basketball diaries and Romeo n Juliet he went extra on the dramatics. Shutter island definitely good film and plot. I saw shutter island in the theatre and remember the audience got very eery and extra quiet during this scene.
This made me cry so hard
I hope for the kids not the wife
For all of them, especially for Andrew Laeddis, who condemned all his long life to live in asylum...
@@KP-zk9kf The wife was obviously mentally unwell as herself and probably didn't kill the kids evil or spiteful reasons. It's not right, but she should have gotten help and we should feel empathy for people who are mentally ill.
The fact he still said that he loves her
Love is Complex. I do not share the desire to love someone as much as this except my Family, but it looks like he loved each and every single one of them with his whole heart. It's hard to let go, even if your wife is a psycho. But in the end, he did the right thing.
She had told him before that something was eating her head, and it could’ve been treated, but Leo’s character didn’t pay attention, because he was a drunk with ptsd, that’s the premise of the movie, coping with the fact that he could’ve done something
@@TheReeelBradPittshe in fact had a worm or something in her head apparently
Shutter Island is one of the most coolest movie I've ever seen. The emotions, the plot everything about this movie is just amazing and ofcourse the acting skills of the amazing actors The BEST movie.
He should have won an Oscar for this one. Actually many others prior to The Revenant. He's brilliant.
Great movie , great book. Dennis Lehane is my favorite writer. His books are amazing.
This scene always gave me chills
The woman is actually fantastic actress
The actress is Michelle Williams
She is a killer! In more ways than one!

Leonardo DiCaprio crying acting 🤙👍🌸

I have absolutely zero context to this video I'm so confused
This feels like a fever dream 💀💀
Should watch the movie
I think my soul came out of my body when I heard that gunshot
Just because she has depression doesn't mean she could get away with murder and how could he miss her after that
She wasn’t depressed, she went crazy, she told him she had a bug eating her mind (not literally) and he ignored it. Leo’s character in this movie goes crazy because he can’t cope with the fact that he had a chance to save his kids, and get her professional help, but didn’t because he didn’t pay attention, and just drank the days away
@@TheReeelBradPitt ok well she still didn't have the right

What an uplifting moment.
for uplifting that gun
The way my heart had an aneurysm when the gun went off
A scene that will go on in cinema history as the most tragic example in mental illness associated with parenting.
Now i understand the importance of joint families which became extinct in india too......in joint families there are people to console you ...worry about you.....but in nuclear families you are all alone...getting out of depression is near to impossible.
Many people get into more depression in joint families
It’s not joint family. For Adam and Eve they are the only family but still…
Bacame extinct in India? Speak for yourself.
I hate joint family lol, so less privacy. I wouldn't hate it if we lived in a big house tho
My joint family is the reason I’m fucked up. I mean think about it this way. So many people living under one roof. Not all are good or have good intentions. Jealousy, power dynamic, money hunger etc etc makes human being act like crazy creatures. I was so messed up growing up, only when my dad and mom finally decided to move out things in my life got much better.

Shutter Island@@deedreaforbes1998
The ending scared me😭😭
The fact that she says « Set me free » in-between her doll paranoia kind of show that she has moments when she knows and realizes How sick she is.. at that very moment she is willing to die.. just as him at the end of the movie. « Live as a monster or Die as a good Man »
i dont care what you say about Leonardo DiCaprio's personal life, but his acting is outstanding. I really like his movies.
Spell-binding!
what a movie
Emotional
Oh my goodness I almost fell off my bed on the sound of the gunshot. Didn't see that comming!
it must be difficult if they mess up on one little thing and having to re do the entire scene 😵💫

The actress was lady Venom in Venom (2018)
There acting were good but it was still sad😢
Why do you say “but”? Like sad scenes aren’t good scenes
I smoked weed before watching this scene...... I am now sober.
That would be enough to break any Man and Father.
This scene was just the most horrifying and scary scene l have ever scene in any movie.
It was just wrong, inhuman, as if it should not even be thought of by an ordinary person but l guess that is the point.
Still it is just terrifying to even consider that this could somehow someway be real
It's may be seems wrong, but it's absolutely human...
And people still think somehow the people on the island made him make this all up, and that..he was, infact, a detective all along.
Her saying her school is gave me chills. She was refering to school of fish
My son just had his senior pictures done in that exact location.

This was definitely a different kind of Martin scorcees movie usually his movie has lots of sex but really this was truly one for the books and Leo definitely deserves an award for this performance but when he did the Revenant fucking amazing congratulations 👏❤️ again Leo well deserved it
