Loved Battle Hymn of the Republic playing softly in the background
Pete for President !!!
amazing video! can't wait to get my hands on these miniatures . Pete , absolutely love your painting channel . Cheers
Fantastic painting and very effective 👌
Loved the painting guide, Was good to see Pete working with you guys 😊
Nice. Note union bedrolls often had a waterproof cover which was black. Some did have different colours or even supplied from home to add some variety
The black is actually a poncho or ground cloth. These were made from canvas that were tarred black to waterproof them. They were sometimes called the rubber blanket by the men.
Truly??? Great note...I appreciate that...
@@Titus_Vespasianus I used to reenact. The poncho had a coating of rubber on them. The haversacks (food bags) were tarred canvas, closer to black paint because it was dry and not affected by the heat. The men carried cups, canteens, and frying pans tied to their bed rolls or attached to their back packs. Note, in the Eastern army they were uniform. The western armies were varied. People forget the Union Army is still the US Army and the eastern army was by-the-book. The western army of the union was said to look more like the Rebs. Last, the hat isn't a kepi, it's a forage cap. Officers had a kepi. The enlisted men had a forage cap. In theory the quartermasters would dump the hard tack into the caps as the soldiers queued up for marching rations.
Very nice! Can’t wait to see you paint cavalry in this scale as well as the confederates.
Got a sprue of these today in the post with my wargames illustrated. Very nice minis.
Excellent painting guide. Easy to follow and looks great.
Pete mate you’re skills are epic.
Looks amazing I was sceptical at first but you have persuaded me to get a pack or two!
Always love to see a painting tutorial ^^.
I’ve found that using Windsor Newton Inks are better for washing 15mm and below scale miniatures. They seem to have a lower surface tension than the army painter or Agrax earth shade style washes. Just a tip.
Great detailed instruction!
I would like to point out that most of the Union infantry solider during the war had 1855 Springfield musket. This musket did not have the bluing on it that gives the barrel its black look. The barrel and the other metal parts on the musket had a silver /gun metal look to them.
Nicely painted however for tabletop at that scale with lines of infantry on mass that’s a lot of work.
I’ve pretty much just been painting a base coat followed by a wash and Matt varnish. Only other thing I do is dry brush uniform grey to highlight the raised black areas on hats, boots and straps etc.
I don’t highlight much at that scale.
Amazing paintjob! Thanks!
Very good, thank you.
Very helpful thank and merry Christmas 👍
Those models look ACE.
My favorite size 👍
Superb tutorial as always, looking forward to the Confederates as that's who I'm playing!
They look great.
It’s tempting to ditch all my unpainted 10mm Pendraken ACW and get these.
For anyone looking to use contrast paints for Union, Tallasar Blue for pants and Leviathan Blue for the jackets.
Union bedrolls should be black. The ground cloths (ponchos) were rubberized canvas.
Great video and a nice tutorial. Is that Robin’s video skills at work?
At last - close order figures.
They look great, do you plan to paint the rebels too?
The Confederates not the Rebels, this isnt star wars! Lol jk
Wow!
As a Civil War reenactor who portrays the 12th Louisiana infantry and the 47th Pennsylvania infantry, I cringe to know that both sides have the same sprues and same uniforms/hats. smh
There are Zoaves, etc, on the way.
I'm afraid I agree. I think it is very unfortunate and a bad design choice that the union sprue was not a unique desperate sprue with far less slouch hats. Many will think this a petty critisim but I can't not under this.
Agreed. How hard is it to set up another mold run to get some accuracy? They would not dare do that with napoleonics
Awesome! Ten down...2,990 to go! 😮😊
For me 15 mm are better for all the Black Powder
and Pike & Shotte period.. With the 28 mm only for Bolt Action.
cant wait for this release :) I wanted to try historical game but just to much to paint in 28mm. Will these be in 1/100(15mm) ? And will there be napoleonic releases in the same scale in the future too ? Thanks for the answers :)
This "epic scale" is neither 15 mm nor 10 mm, but some new thing in-between. So I'm guessing it's around 12.5 mm scale??
They have a Waterloo line also, but I don't think it comes in the "both sides in one box" deal -- you have to select between French, Prussian, or British.
Great Job! Now do it 100+ more times for an army xD
Excellent paint guide look forward to see a Confideracy guide. Are the miniatures hard plastic?
I started to paint the trousers with AP griffon blue....
After almost going crazy painting an ECW/TYW army in 28 mm, I was planning on just using a can of blue spray paint for one side and gray spray paint for the other for this set. But ... I suppose I could give this a try.
So since I'm into historical wargames and not fantasy, how do I convert "diseased orc phlegm" into normal people colors?
based song
One correction...they are wearing Forage caps, NOT Kepis. There is a difference. 🤷♂️
Napoleonic pls
I am confused as you show a ten fig frontage, The pics on the Warlord site show a five man frontage, two lines deep.
Lance King no they don't.
@@philstephenson5855 Look at the stands on the sprue 5x2?
@@philstephenson5855 Oh its 5x2 holes per base but 10x2 figures per base. Any idea what size the bases are?
@@lanceking701 bases are 20mm x 60mm; the 10-man strips are about 55mm wide
Have you cut of the base locator tabs so that you can fit the straps on the lolly stick?
I wonder how hard it will be to recreate the “Iron Brigade” since just about all of them had a particular hat style?
I be interested to see how you painted the rebs.
I also feel the tunics are a tad too blue.
Also, would using non-adhesive tac putty be a good substitute to holding the popsicle sticks over flying them in place?
I think they will come as resin models
Agreed on the tunics
What kind of base (size) is used for these very small figures?
I’m a southerner but I always thought yankee uniforms looked good.
what's the shade paint thing you used and where can I buy it
Great video hope you do a confederate one
nice video :) Will there be one for the confederates too ?
You super glue how to pop the minis off the stick without damaging?
Slip a knife just under them and they pop off easily. Been doing this with warmaster stuff for years
I've pried models off with a metal sculpting tool but I've found it not needed if you just bend the wood a bit.
Use white glue. It will hold them down sufficiently well. you can even do that to glue them to your gaming bases, if you think in the years to come you want different bases.
Hello there, what scale are the miniatures?
Hello! They are 15mm, nice channel by the way!
Also I forgot to add there'll be a Q&A video with John on the Epic Battles very soon.
15mm
@@warlordgames hello thank-you :)
i cant wait for the release. the set look amazing.
Not really 15mm. John Stallard described them as 13.5 mm
Wow Hang on ! Just stick them down with PVA Glue . Super glue is too concrete . PVA allows you to get them off again
Why do Europeans as a general rule paint union jackets so light? Almost every painting tutorial I see is so light! As far as anyone saying this is pedantic, just post king Louis xiv various shades of grey coats and watch the comments fly!
I think a lot of this is to keep colour on the gaming table, else everything suddenly looks so very dark.
Yea, I agree. I watched video of museum quality re-enactors uniforms and the blue worn by many of the union dudes was practically black.
can you do a confederate one too
why are nearly all the paints you list different from the warlord paint set that ive been sent as my epic acw paint set....why do a tutorial at all using different colours...?
Which scale is it ?
13.5mm
Small 15mm, so about 13.5mm.
Hate to break it to you but the jackets are wrong. They were similar to Prussian "black". The jackets were very very dark blue almost to a black.
Nope
@@Vaultboy-ke2jj Nope what? My statement is 100% correct.
@@nordicmaelstrom4714 no it isn’t. Check any book or online resource on Union uniforms, the shade of blue varied
@@Vaultboy-ke2jj I've been studying the period for decades dude. The accounts of Confederate troops indicate the uniforms look almost black at a distance and are more akin to Prussian black. Yes the jackets faded and obviously the dye quality wasn't 100% throughout the war but that does not change the fact that what I typed was correct.
@@nordicmaelstrom4714 so have I and unless every book I have is wrong and the museum exhibits are also wrong then I’m disagreeing with you
