"The entire point of the case was to take the bullhorn away from (Alex Jones),"
This, which is wholly unconstitutional on the face of it, and the absolute ridiculous amount rewarded on damages, coupled with about 5 minutes of any given days' court footage will win him on appeal if the judge has any modicum of knowledge of the actual law. That, and I think (if Jones gets decent enough lawyers) that he can prove bias on the part of the judges in this case. The reason they went with default judgement was because Alex couldn't produce enough of his content (you can thank his simultaneous banning from RUclips, FaceBook and Twitter for that, as they all removed his content, bit of a shot in the foot there), and what he could provide didn't have the smoking gun they wanted, and the judge is an activist. In my personal opinion, a rational judge will look at this and dismiss it immediately because the prosecution didn't even come within a light year of proving their case, and court footage will show the clear bias of the judge. It should also be noted that Jones recanted those statements and apologized later on, but that was ignored.
Razorfist is entirely correct in asserting that this was a clear message: "Mess with us and we can and will destroy your livelihood," in that aspect they've sent their message loud and clear, now it's just a matter of who's going to say, "don't care, going to say what I'm going to say,"

First, the disturbing things: While this is not a criminal case (it's a civil court), this does set a rather dangerous and potentially disastrous precedent. A couple in fact. While defamation and libel/slander have always been bad, they were always tied directly to two basic things. One, that the one doing it was malicious and intentionally trying to destroy a person or persons name. Two, any damages received were directly tied to the loss of said name and reputation. None of the people that this was supposed to be for were worth that much. Even if Jones was completely wrong and they really are just grieving parents, tens of millions of dollars EACH is hardly appropriate. It is also interesting that despite the FACT that he never encouraged his listeners to do anything against these people, he is the one that got sued for it and not the ones that actually were. In effect, he is being blamed for what others did. Did he say some outrageous things? Sure, that's kind of his brand. Did he delve deep into conspiracy and make some rather odd connections and then broadcast them? Again, that's what he does. Do either of those constitute slander/libel? Ehhh, that's a hard one. Before, slander/libel convictions were based, at least in part, on the person saying the things KNOWING they were false and that they would be damaging the object of their statements with their words. Even if this is appealed, which it will be, and overturned, which it should be, the precedents in this case are a cause for concern.
The amusing things: Jones' reaction is definitely top of this list. If you haven't seen clips of it, go find them. It's hilarious. Even if this is not overturned in appeal, not one of those people are ever going to see a dime. This can be dragged through the courts for years or even decades and at the end of it, assuming that Jones lost ALL of the appeals, he can declare bankruptcy due to legal fees and lost income and it all goes poof. Judge McResting Bitchface is also going to be due for some interesting karma. Judicial review does happen and, while it can take a while, the changing political winds can speed that up significantly. The final part, for me anyway, is the fact that Jones can now use this outrageous verdict as PROOF that his conspiracies are real and gain an even larger audience. For people that wanted to shut him down and shut him up, they did a horrible job.

The mindlessly parroted retort: "well, he shouldn't have gone after the families of dead children!" would still be falling out of their mouths, regardless of the broader implications or actual facts.
Later, when the appeal overturns this obvious nonsense, those same people will just say "oh..." with a disinterested shrug, since by that point the mainstream media will have moved on from this story and so today's hollering masses will no longer hold any sort of opinion on the matter. Nobody will have told them how to think; just like what happened when Cosby was cleared and released. You know, this actually sets a bad precedent. If anyone or any group of persons does any kind of harassment or insults you anywhere near how Jones talked about the Sandy Hook kids: you can refer to his case to show that you potentially have grounds to sue the pants off of someone.

if anything it teaches actual nutcases that doing "a Sandy Hook" or similar to for example government building is both guaranteed to have less monetary consequences and a fairly more effective than going to fight your constitutional rights for simply speaking about something in rigged courts. Not saying anyone should do anything criminal, the ruling class will for sure use anyone as a case for more gun control laws and etc., but I am making a point that they are continuing the pushing people into a corner where violence becomes more acceptable and easier option for mentally ill people. They are playing with fire and multiplying the effect by not going after their own journalists spreading lies and getting away with retractions.

Thats why this will be a mistrial and throw out, this was foolish and the people hurt most will be the parents. Supreme Court already ruled "hate speech' is protected by the 1st Amendment. As well as Alex Jones admitted and redacted all his previous comments. It will take time, but he will be found innocent.
