This could be the perfect recipe for older 4 x 4 trucks, but I would like to see it with a 10 speed auto capable to be mated with a transfer case, everything from land, cruisers, and land rovers two Chevy trucks. This will be the go to combo.
This L8T comes with provisions for a power steering pump, The rest of the LT line uses electric power steering. Also this accessory package can be had with dual alternators. The BEST part is this L8T has no active fuel management ( or cylinder shut down, Displacement on Demand ) and all other LT engines are aluminum blocks and this L8T is Iron block that can be bored out to over 7.0 liters. This engine also has an extra coolant passage between the cylinders, helping it to run cooler, better for 87 octane fuel. A long block can be had for about $7,200 today.
Those two would make way more torque (and at least for the HO 50-60 more horsepower) but they will probably guzzle a lot more gas since they are both larger and their head design isn't very efficient.
This would've been perfect if not for the direct injection, would've preferred a good old port injection set up, but an impressive motor regardless, well done GM!

Certainly a good engine for older trucks and such. However for racing this is not it. The LT4, LT2, LT5, LT6, and LT1 are what you want depending on your budget.
That ain't nothing the Ford 7.3 Godzilla crate engine will run circles around that motor all day long with 430hp@ 5500rpm and 475tq @4000 rpm so Chevrolet go back to the drawing board..
This engine was optimized to do work on a near equal to diesel and as such, was optimized for low end torque. I’m sure it could have been tuned more midrange but that wasn’t the goal.
The 7.3 is having bad cam and lifter delamination. The shaft driven oil pump and voids between cylinders in the casting are horrible design flaws. In the real worl the 6.6 has been better all around 🤷♂️ the 7.3 barely makes more power and it is at a higher rpm which isn’t good either.

My '22 Silverado has this engine and it's tremendous. Well done, Chevy!
Would love to throw this in my 04 Silverado
With a Allison 10 speed.

Nice break down
HOLY MOLY!!! that engine is a beast!! chevys all the way!!!👍🏻
Amazing engine. Every time I think you can't up your game...you up your game. Well done
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! WELCOME TO THE FUTURE OF HOT RODDING!!! THE V8 IS ALIVE AND WELL in 1983!!!
This is a great powerplant for older trucks. Seriously considering replacing the big block in my K30 for this.
0:01 1983 smallblocks sucked, this one is cool
So funny how it says Mexico right from the rip.
I know, but I guess it’s better than made in china. 🤷
Most likely a Bosch fuel injection component
It's the plastic pcv line . I agree it's in bad taste but the engine isn't built in Mexico.
A thing of beauty. Can't wait to get mine!!
Ya, that's what i need in my Tahoe! :-)
WANT this one!
I might buy one of these for my 18 silverado rcsb.
No you won’t.
Good Lord. On 87 octane, too. O_o Toss this in basically anything and it'll be bulletproof lol.
Is this the engine MT just put in a 72 nova?
Would love to see a dyno comparison against the HT502 and 502HO

Nice Mexico sticker....
Chevy is the best, soooooooo
Lol first thing I noticed
2:33 What did you expect from Barra's Globalist Motor Corporation?? An engine made by White People? Surely you jest.....
I guess that’s better than made in China.
E-Rod kit for 3/4 ton trucks when?
Gonna be a little harder to hot rod, because unlike the LR4, LM7, LQ4&9, you can't put a carb on it? Just curious.
You can! You can get an adapter kit to put a carby LS intake on it. Horsepower Monster has done a video on one
Chevy performance definitely needs to post more videos

Just add a catch can. 😊
@@jeromeburrasca6710 Fair enough
Put a super charger on it and add eight more injectors in the runners.
That’s why you add a blower with a water/methanol injection kit. No worrying about valves plus lots of power
It wouldn't make as much power for its specs if it was Port injected.
I just got a 2024 Express extended cargo van with this L8T. that was a deal breaker i was not getting a V6 4.3
I love it chevrolet 💯💯💯👍
Perfect.
Note the Hecho en Mexico tag. That arouses distrust from the get-go.
Smart American engineers
Nice ...Just waiting for guys to get em and start slapping in K5blazers, Chevelles...Mmmm LT454, LT496
What happened to that old hot rodder Bill Martens?
i want one
So you are bringing back Pontiac 😁
Que dice el sticker mexico 🇲🇽 👌
Viva mexico ca&rones 😆😆

Where's the lt6 crate engine GM ?
Why not LT8 Instead of L8T
It's sad the first thing you see when they show the throttle body is a big sticker that says Mexico
engine is great. But need torque to 500 be nice
Put a cam in it and it will make 500 lb*ft.

Sure it will. Especially with its nicely designed shaft driven oil pump, and casting voids between the bore spacing. Can’t see those being an issues…

Yeah. No replacement for displacement.

You lost me at Mexico. Why is the label by the throttle body read Mexico?
because the foundries in Mexico are better than the ones in the USA.
Because the PCV hose that tag is tied to was made in Mexico. This comment section is full of goofballs who've never touched a wrench lol
