The trap you put on is correct. No air vent is needed on the pipe from the sink, because if you have done your connections right, and it looks like you have, then the unit is venting through the connection on the left. The unit is pulsating or coming on for only 2-3 seconds at a time because it should, and it is, pumping out the water faster than the water is coming in from the sink. In one of the comments below, it was said, the membrane goes brown, this is caused by limescale in the water, Saniflio sell a formulated limescale remover to stop this problem. It should also be said that the Grundfos mentioned uses a float switch to achieve the same function as the membrane, and that float switch also gets covered in limescale and stops the unit from working if not cleaned with a limescale remover. This is because all items using water, like your washing machine, electric kettle or pump will get a build up of limescale and will need descaling, this is not a Saniflo problem, this is a limescale in the water problem

The pumps fills the unit to a level before pump start and the P trap and vent is built in to reduce external parts

I think generally you're supposed to throttled a shut off valve on the outlet in order to avoid the cycling. I believe the cycling is caused by a mismatch between water leaving the pump and the water coming in. With the valve fully open the outlet flow is higher than the inlet causing a drop on the pressure which can also cause cavitation if the pump continues to run

Great video. Question if I use a 3 way diverter valve by passing my septic do I need a vent since there will be no gases? Im looking to pump gray water into my garden.

No idea. That would have to be answered by Saniflo. Give them a call directly. They were very easy to deal with.

It shouldnt need a trap if the vent goes straight to the outside and the built in one way valve remains closed, which it would because water will always be pressing against it.

Your instruction at the 11 min mark is wrong. The middle elbow is a discharge elbow with a built in check valve NOT VENT! Middle is DISCHARGE, I have been working for Saniflostore for 10 years… either you plumbed it incorrect or you just confused the two in pointing them out….

Can this be used if I want to install a kitchen sink in my basement???? Right now where I would like to put it my laundry machines are connected to an ejector pump which I was told I can't connect a sink to.

What’s the purpose of the vent line?

    • @gregbernard4466

When water leaves it needs to be replaced by air. All plumbing uses a vent of some kind. Sinks can work far away from the main vent tho code usually dictates the distances and vent sizes.

Non-return valves are readily available from Saniflo and they are fairly cheap
