    Its hard to believe that 1 year after the release of Aliens Colonial Marines - a game that didn’t overly release to positive reviews, feedback, or … well we already know my thoughts on that game - but 1 year after Colonial Marines, we got without a doubt the best Alien game to ever release, as well as one of the best survival horror games too in my opinion with in Alien Isolation.
    with Alien Romulus coming out soon, a movie that like Alien isolation is set between 1979’s Alien and 1986’s Aliens - I thought why not go back and take a look at this masterfully made Alien game.

    It still amazes me that it was Creative Assembly behind this, a dev that never created anything like it before. One could even argue it remains their best creation to date.

      saw rumors that they're doing a total war Star Wars game the other week - that'd be kinda rad. The Total War Warhammer games were pretty fun too.

    • @volbound1700
      @volbound1700 8 месяцев назад +7

      Another interesting aspect is that Creative Assembly Total War series is great in every aspect except the AI. Their AI has been downfall at times. It was most notorious in Empire: Total War where they made a game with a huge naval aspect in the 1700s but the AI was incapable of sending armies across the sea or doing Amphibious attacks. Heck, you can play England on it and take Paris in the first 3-4 turns and eliminate France.

      Well sometimes you must give a product to someone who’s never done a similar product before, they have fresh eyes and don’t follow the usual rules, with luck they create something great and unique. Veterans rarely innovate, they are just comfortable doing things the same way.

    For those who are not familiar with it, the AI on the alien basically has two brains. There is one AI that is the creature itself, which is actively hunting you down and is limited to only what the Alien can perceive, while the other is a larger scale one, which basically just keeps track of things like where you and the alien are both located, and basically gives the alien "hints" to try to find you if it starts to get too far away from you. The latter's purpose is basically to heighten tension while also keeping the game fair enough that it's still playable.

It's just that shooting it anywhere else will only do very little damage. You will see this though because the Alien will bleed acid and have gunshot wounds on its body.

    Very well made survival horror that makes you feel like you are inside the 1979 alien universe.
    The attention to detail and the love put into this title is not something we see very often.
    Gotta say we are kinda starved and need more titles like this one.

  • @Threesixtyci
    @Threesixtyci 8 месяцев назад +4

    yup.... and they buried it. 'cause reasons.
    8:25 well that's a lie or a very poor observation on your part. If you save and the Alien kills you while in the middle of the save, when you reload, the Alien will not respawn to instantly rekill you, it will be back in the ducts, somewhere. As for dying after the animation has finished... that's not a thing either. Game gives you time to alter the outcome. Also, the Alien AI doesn't repeat the same action when it loses line of sight. It's random. So, you can do the same exact thing, and the Alien's actions won't always be the same. Basically the game's save system is designed not to soft lock you. Now.. if ur playing the hardest difficulty... well that's on u. not the game.

    Isolation feels like you’re playing the role of the protagonist in what feels like an honest to god sequel to the original Alien set before the events of Aliens.

    It does a great job at just making you feel isolated with an alien (pun intended) even with the flamethrower or with a heap of molotov's or pipe bombs it doesn't ever feel like you have enough supplies to just barge through the alien and just keep going. At most you can make a couple mistakes or by yourself a good chunk of time but you can't ever be rid of it completely. Not to mention you have that one section where you're in the hive and there isn't just 1 alien but like 3-4 and it becomes really hectic and scary cause you have to burn through supplies since stealth isn't really as much of an option anymore. I think overall it just does a great job at not making you so weak you feel like nothing you do is worthwhile like say you're playing an amnesia game but it also doesn't make you feel like the alien is weak but rather you just have more options to buy yourself time or to fight back a bit rather than forcing you to just avoid it or hide the entire game

    Let me be honest here because im a casual gamer and i will firstly admit that im not hardcore nor skilled. And we average gamers are MANY in population. This game sold poorly, and its not because of competition at the time
    Me and million other gamers had avoided this game because of its difficulty and slow gameplay. If the game had more difficulty variety to allow players to indulge in the story and atmosphere without being killed immediately, it wouldve sold better.
    And im not even asking for cod like alien game, but horror games like Silent hill were very accessible, it even let you tinker with the difficulty and ai settings and even for less cryptic puzzle solving. Far cry had sneak indicator mechanics, which in Alien Isolation you dont, like why not at least include a mechanic for an easy difficulty and just remove it for the higher difficulty.
    And most importantly, trial and error games are the worst type of difficulty, which is what this game also has even if the fans dont want to admit it. You definitely know that the game spawned that alien into the area when you were about to complete a task.
    Game developers have yet to understand that average gamers are not masochistic gamers which is why this Alien game is only kept alive by only the alien fanbase and streamers. And that people would rather watch a streamer play the Alien game(or hide n seek only game) than to actually own the game and play it. But hopefully, they’ll understand for a next Alien game.

    i started playing as soon as it was done downloading..it was late at night, so i put on the headset.
    soon after i entered sebastopol i decided to only play in daylight, and with speakers on low volume.

    How this mirrors my own view, or image if this game. I am not a huge fan or the horror survivor genre, but i am an alien(s) fan boy. I love the game, have replayed it a few times, and though i get frustrated sometimes of how the missions are designed, i always end up wanting more. Yes for me this game is too short, i could without blink have spent 50+ hours sneaking and avoiding the alien. The game and the story deserves a part 2.

    I am considering buying this. Maybe I could play it on my daughter's ps4. 😉 Romulus was awesome last saturday! Nostalgia also brought Alien trilogy to my mind from ps1. 🔥🖤🔥

    The game does NOT save the position of the Alien as you are saving. It's randomized every time you load that save.
    So if you're almost saved and hear the alien drop near you, let the save finish. You might get killed once, but then can continue from your new position without a problem.
