I was on a cruise and on the midnight buffet table was a container of Osetra caviar as shown in the video. I had tried the caviar sold in grocery stores and did not care for its fishy and salty taste but the presentation alone revealed that this was high-quality caviar. I served a bit on my plate along with some water crackers. I guess I'm a caviar person because I really enjoyed the taste and understood the hype about it! It wasn't fishy, but "oceany" in flavor, and had a pleasant texture as the eggs ruptured while chewing them straight or on crackers. It has the buttery notes as described by most and had notes of black currant but with only a bit of sweetness. Throughout the buffet barely anyone else tried the caviar so I helped myself to much of it. None of us had any alcohol drinks, due to them being expensive, but the next morning I woke up with a "salt hangover" from all of the caviar. Not fun.
@jimmio1622 Yeah Jimmi. Considering that was twenty years ago and cruise companies are privately owned and operate in international waters, they still have strict rules prohibiting marijuana possession and edibles. The last thing passengers want are cabins with that horrid weed stink in them and in hallways.
I've had the opportunity to try Osetra caviar served with creme fraiche on some fancy cracker at a very expensive restaurant once. I thought it was very good but it's not something I would buy for myself probably ever as it was very expensive. It wasn't just ordinary expensive either, it was the few hundred dollars for a couple of ounces kind of expensive.

The video could have mentioned that most, if not all, caviar produced nowadays is aquaculture, meaning the sturgeon is farmed. It takes a sturgeon 8-14 years to grow to a stage where it can be slaughtered for its caviar.
@@j.1684 It's just like tasting salt. Not worth the Hype. They are only expensive because of the low supply of producing them plus the Hype of status.

However it is definitely an acquired taste. Like the video says, you either love it or hate it... there's ZERO in-between. The price is also absolutely absurd except in the case of Almas or Beluga... at least the rarity of those fish somewhat justify the pricetag.
