This is a pretty great instructional video. I've never used Blender before but wanted to try creating some 3d terrain. Did a little bit of research, created a pretty basic heightmap in GIMP for a fictional area, followed these directions, and made a pretty cool 3d map of this fictional area pretty easily. The only thing I would say is before applying deform, go back to Object mode (maybe he said that and I missed it). Great stuff.
Very useful video. I was editing an older 3D flyover and had issues with file size and rendering speed. After watching this video I rebuilt from scratch and have a higher resolution, faster rendering animation. You technique is much easier and the video is straightforward. Thank you.
This tutorial is Gold! Thank you so much!
Nice man, definitely useful! I'll have to boot up Blender and give this a shot. 💯
Do it my man!
Can’t believe I missed this! Well done!!!
Thanks, Joseph!
It's funny you put this out I really need a new solution for environments. I usually work in C4D but am looking to blender/UE more and more so this is very quick/easy/helpful to add to my ever growing list of things to try lol 😆
Cool!
I switched to blender from c4d and i'm never going back
I was having issues working with the existing GIS plugins to import GeoTiff "displacement maps" and now I know how to use them directly :) Thanks!
Fire 🔥
Cool tipp with the site. Love it.
Tipp: shift+t to place lights cone (holding ctrl will move the light) and for materials, use nodes. Not that hard but you will see the benefit of nodes QUICKLY ! :-)
I'm thank you very much. This tutorial very helps to us..
anyone else having an issue where the heightmaps are completely black? i tried messing with a bunch of settings but it only ever comes back with blackness. maybe they dont have the data for my location?
yeah had the same when i used the beta of that site. Check that there's no /beta at the end of the url.
Thank you for the tips, a real game changer!
Thanks for the great explanation!
thanks for the tutorial, great work and super well explained bro
Great tutorial. Can you provide instruction for removing the ocean part of the 3d map? I would like a model of just the landscape.
Great tutorial
Thanks for sharing. Informative video.
Great work!
Thank you 👍🏻
Any way to improve the resolution of the maps, or is this a limitation of the satellite maps?
Gracias, me fue de mucha utilidad.
nice thanks
You're welcome. 😎
A great tutorial, thank you so much for posting. I'm very new to this and am trying to mesh a recent high-res imagery capture to a LiDAR-derived DEM for the same terrain obviously. I have encountered a problem when trying to import the high-res .tif file and I go to material preview, my plane image just turns purple instead of showing the terrain imagery. Any suggestions for this particular problem?? Hugely thankful for the content bro, I look forward to seeing more of your work!
Hey man, awesome video! I just wanted to know, when you import it to blender it is not at the same scale as the real map right? And if I wanted the real scale, how would I do it? Sorry, really just starting out in blender. Cheers
The download function on that site doesn't work for me. No dice.
Can you add hiking trails in it?
damn, this is lit
cool
"Jesus Christ its Jason Boone!"
I hate Shutterstock, but this was a good tutorial.
Link is broken, it just shows a map, no toolbar to the left.
@1:51 What site? you speak about it but did not actually give any links or direction!
for some reason i set my level of detail to 6 but it still looks like very bad. i took the same island as you did, but first it has broken height map which makes the top flat, and 2nd it still has very bad detail as i already said
The top is flat because in Cities: Skylines there is a maximum height limit. Just click settings then click auto. Should fix it. I can't get the site to load right now, just a blank gray screen with all the sidebars and stuff.
How can you make the grid small
The height maps are all appearing as black images, even from the beta version of the site. Is anyone else having this issue? I can see one other person is so far
same
there is a calculator button next to two different fields in the info section of the application. click on those two buttons to get the correct exposure. I believe this sets up auto exposure/auto level.
@@tregsmusic thanks:)
the site does not work its just complletely blue
godamnit evry dam tutorial whit the usless city skyline tool that dosnt work for europa that dam thing stunted all progress in creating heightmaps across the world and it cant even read one of the 6 topological map formats used in the rest of the world
The site doesn't seem to be working at the moment.
