Blackstar Artist 15 Tube Combo Amp Review by Sweetwater

- Mitch Gallagher puts the Blackstar Artist 15 tube combo amp to the test. The Artist 15 comes with two separately voiced channels to seamlessly switch between clean and crunch tones. The 6L6 power tubes deliver a glassy, American-style tone to the clean channel. The dirty channel will take you through British crunch and drive. Using a boost or overdrive on this channel will easily take you into high-gain territory. After the video, click the link below for even more on the Blackstar Artist 15 combo.

Mitch does excellent demos. Not in the market for this, but enjoyed the video and review - looks like a nice amp!
Mitch love the way you present the videos bro🎸👍
👍🇺🇸❤clean channel my fave........best demo of this amp yet👍
Mitch you have lost a lot a weight since, I last seen one of your videos way to go buddy looking good
Nice review, great sounding amp.
good review, thanks Mitch
Great review
wish you would've at least shown what the gain channel sounds like with a boost or OD before it.
Hey mitch great review, quick question given all the fantastic amp you demo what are you playing through yourself? I really liked your review of the boogie mark 5.25 thanks agsin
I own it! LOVE IT...
Still loving it?
@@mattgilbert7347 a friend bought it from me. He’s loving it now. I went to Fractal Audio.
Whats the opinion on the dirty end of the sound?? Can it pull off a Slash sound? Or Randy Rhoads? Dave Mustain? OR mainly blues and jazz?
Why no strat position 2? That's the main strat sound. Especially clean!
It’s a review for the amp, not the guitar
how come jazz players never use strats? always them big ole jazz boxes. strats have the perfect jazzy tone.
Jeremiah Wilson On the neck pickup with tone knob backed off to around 5-6 its actually a very good jazz sound, even better with my hardtail strat. Its a fuller, bassier sound that lends itself well to jazz. Stevie Ray Vaughn always included at least one jazz tune on every album all played on his trusty number 1 strat and his tone was stellar.
Jazz people are almost as closed-minded as ‘real’ rock people, that’s why. 😂 Jazz is such a merciless competitive game that nobody is willing to come out with a visual appearance that looks ‘rock.’ Unfortunately the cut-throat nature of that music scene means guitarists have to fall in line with aesthetics of the past. Even something like a Casino would raise eyebrows.
That gain is more like it! I used to have an HT1R and hated the solidstate fizzy sound of its distortion. Too gainy, with hints that it probably wasn't the tubes that were creating the distorted sound. It kind of made me stay away from Blackstar amps. This one makes me consider one again for gigging purposes.
Same! And mine was an HT-20 (Mk.1) but it was only ever an okay clean platform. The amp gain, fuhgettabahtit. Fizz city.
And you were right.. It's a diode clipping stage in the HT series.
This and the handwired Artisan have caught my ear.. There's a handful on the used market.
I know you wrote this 7 years ago, but why would you judge an entire amp company based on its 1-watt mini-amp? That's like judging Marshall on its DSL1.
@@joelsero i know you wrote this 3 months ago but i agree with you
"This is not a high gain amplifier"
Music to my ears.. So sick of all the fizz associated with the Blackstar Ht series.
can you play this at low volume and still sound good
have you tried and are sharing this? or you are asking?
Great for bedroom I have one and it’s very good
I play one with a JHS Black Amp Box in the effect loop that allows me to play it as a practise amp. Works well. Love the amp.
When will this amp be available for purchase? Estimate?
Hi TJ! Right now we're estimating mid-December for this. Give us a call at 800-222-4700 if you have any questions!
veeeeeeeeeery "Voxy"...i like it..
Hi is it possible listen to the amp using headphones?
Not directly. You need to put a little mixer in the emulated output and then headphones in your mixer. But the amp sounds very sweet even in low volumes, so no headphones needed :-)
Have you got one +Miachel? I'm interested in that low volume sound quality feature! (y)
Niiiiiice :)
I think I missed how many or what size speaker it has
One 12" speaker with the Artist 15 and two 12's in the Artist 30
Why doesn't a standby button ???
I owned one of these for 48hrs. and took it back. They simply don't cut it for me , the valves used favour a US sound and that does follow throughbut in a bland way into an amp without a true voice, UK sounds not realistic at all. Its also oversized for a 15 watt amp , Funny thing is i always thought they were over rated , yet i was stupid enough to buy one, still i got my money back.
What did you get instead?
@@CarlitoM77 Fender '65 Princeton reissue. No comparison really , but as the Fender was twice the money i would expect it t be better
God I can't stand it when you guys just blabber on just demonstrate the product first and then going to all the BS
Why don't you just fast forward to the playing ?
