@@robertmeijer01 Why do people think and complain about cars having similar details, yet people never complain about all 1940's cars have the same circular headlights?
100% agree, it'd be cool to see something like this as a special version of the S Class to bring some of that heritage forward. I think the perfect way to do that would be as a Maybach!
To me the last S class feels premium but also with electronics and stuff becoming more popular visually, the last S class doesn’t look dated but feels dated technologically to look at. The new S class reminds me of Tesla and looks modern but not more premium.
@@GreatName707 I'm frankly sick of the big screen wars. How does this end? Look at the utter size and dominance of the S Class screen...or the Escalade screen...or any number of others. It's ridiculous.
The point of the s-class in the first place is elegance and luxury, that's a fact, back in the 80's and 90's Mercedes followed trends just like anyone else, boxy cars with solid straight lines and not much going on, just like the trend of modern cars, sleek looking with minimalistic designs, smooth creases and flowing lines, which is much more fitting for an S-Class, Mercedes never intended people to look at the s-class and say "that's a luxury tank", it's purpous was to never be aggressive because theres plenty of examples of that from AMG (e.g. the 300E AMG) it was always intended to be modern and high class, I think the new S-Class represents everything they aimed for the S-Class to represent, elegance and luxury
I'm still driving a W140 7 days a week. Nothing comes close to being engineered so over the top. Everything is just so heavy and rock solid, like they were designed to outlast their owners...
The new s class on the road looks gorgeous. Has a raked look. But agree the headlights and tails are “soft” and not as commanding or dictator-like in presence as the old Mercedes s class.
@@pedromiguelareias I love the W126 but they don't come close to the tank like solidity and build quality of the W140. I have owned both and the W140 is undoubtedly a huge upgrade
Absolutely! David E. Davis Jr., editor of Car & Driver Magazine back in the day, loved telling the story of Bruno Sacco wanting to lower the W140 S-class roofline by one or two inches - only to be turned down by MB management. To this day I agree with Mr. Sacco, a lowered roof changes the character of the W140 series! Thank you for your redesign of the current W223 series. You were able to "square-up" the lines and restore some brawn to the S-class. You are an Excellent Designer.
The original looked like a car for a benevolent king who cares for the masses, your redesign looked like a car a dictator would travel on. And I love them both! Love your work ❤️!
My thing about the new S class is that it doesn’t look like an S class, it looks like a Mercedes. S class should be similar to how Maybach represents Mercedes. I think this is the perfect rendition of what the S class should be.
I agree, 2009-2016 Mercedes-Benz E-Class definitely one of the sexiest looking E-Class, especially with those headlights and taillights. The way how Mercedes-Benz facelift the W212 looked more aggressive, yet clean and simply. Still a beautiful sedan. I also like the W213, but I prefer the pre-facelift.
agreed, but this was also the time when the quality declined. Therefore i would prefer an early model. But tbh, the 140 was never a beauty like the 126.
They are going for a more sporty look that appeals to younger buyers and females also. The old style was geared towards old rich men, presidents, mobsters etc...
yeah i think you made a Volvo front and a Lincoln tail. If the front light can be thicker vertically its would be better(old mercs have very tall, almost square lamps)
If the new s class head and taillights look soft. The whole 90s s class looks soft. It is not beautiful it’s boring design..(yes it has outstanding built quality and its historically significant but soft.. same with the 90s SL. Il never understand why people say it’s beautiful.) the new s class is sleek and beautiful!
From 2005 to 2017 I was the very satisfied owner of an E38 BMW 740iL, some (like Doug de Muro of Cars and BIds) believe it was the most beautiful sedan of its time, and mine had a truly gorgeous "Arctic Silver" light bluish paint job, the only thing I would change would be its rear windows length, which, due to the L version, were much longer than the front side windows.
I especially don’t like the rear bumper on the W223. The cutting lines are way too high. It reminds me of some old men wearing their pants pulled up high.
Ithe sketch ended up looking more like previous BMW 7 series proportion wise ;-) ... not saying it´s bad or anthing, but less unique and more similar like other brands do
At least one person is thinking along the same lines as I. The current S class is a blob. A jellyfish of some sort. I wait until the wedge shape comes back which is the next gen.
Why did you count that small rear window frame as a pillar?! It's not. The new model design has to cover some air dynamic features. Тhe old one is cool, but the aerodynamic coefficient is just like a brick. Isn't? :)
Bro the front of ur take on the s class looks like a Hyundai genesis . Boxy old cars looked good in the past time period , but that’s exactly it - the time period accepted boxed plain simple cars. U don’t need to modify every new car that comes out to make it look like an older shapeless versions of 4 generations ago . Let car design evolution take its place . The new s class looks gorgeous , should’ve even added a light bar in the back like the new 911 Porsches .
@TheSketchMonkey: I think your re-design looks way better than the current design! The W223 doesn’t look like a Mercedes anymore! I know [t]hey wanted it to be more aerodynamic, affordable for the public, etc… But it’s losing some of it’s prestige! With the onset of electric vehicles, I read this W223 might be the last affordable Mercedes! Even though the price is already in access of $100000.00!
Wow, this is amazing. Maybe you want to approach Mercedes, they truly need some help. Does anyone on their team even know about the Golden Mean? It is all about harmonious proportions. Buno didn't like the W140 because he felt it was 4" too tall. Personally, I am OK with the height. It looks balanced to me. The new S-Class is just plain ugly, it has lost what it started out as (116). It looks like any other vehicle riding around the street. The back end looks too heavy and bulb-like. The creased line near the bottom of the vehicle needs to go or it needs to sit level with the ground. The taillights scream Toyota. The lights are too narrow and raked too far into the fenders. Bruno would scream at this. The LED lighting is just plain ridiculous, LESS IS MORE, and always will be. At 9:19, is that what you drew? If so it is beautifully executed. I see good balance and harmony, and I am glad there are so many vintage Mercedes-Benz vehicles still around.
With owning a w-140 it does not need to be lowered an inch because if it was it wouldn't look the same in the look would be totally different and it would not be proportionate to the vehicle
Reminds me of a Lincoln Continental, which is not a bad thing I think that car is gorgeous
They never should have put it out of production. RIP Conti
