I have never even owned a set of measuring spoons, only a larger measuring cup, so I can see that some people similar to me could be attracted to this cube until they realize how complicated it is to operate.
I thought it looked interesting right up until I saw you actually using it. Having to use a spoon to transfer ingredients from bag to cube really just defeats the purpose of this. Not to mention getting oil all over everything if you have to spin the cube around. Really good test!
It's a neat idea but they should have increased the size by like 10-20% so that the tolerances of the fills aren't so exact. This is more like a novelty than anything. Something someone would print on their 3d printer, not sell in stores.
Yeah it's a popular model for 3d printing. But these types of things are not so good to 3d print. With all of the grooves and occasional almost invisible holes, 3d printed stuff is very hard to get food grade clean. A lot of places for bacteria.
The point of a measuring utensil is to be exact to be able to level it out. All your measuring spoons and cup are exact so this cube being exact only makes sense. Measuring cups are not designed to be used for liquid. Liquids should always be used with the ones that has a spout. Besides that this dude thing shouldn’t exist. It’s pointless and it will never replace the measuring utensils
Honestly I had seen a similar gadget where I live, only I find ours more practical. It's essentially a huge spoon that you can tweak to make it into different measurements, a cleaner more practical approach than a box but the only reason I didn't get it was it would only work if I buy 2, one for dry ingredients and one for wet.
This product is the result of thinking only in one perspective. Works great to put things into, but not to use as a scoop to get the measurement out of something else. My brain went to "how am I going to use that huge thing to measure a teaspoon of sugar - which I keep in a huge container?"

You're supposed to spoon flour into the measure device anyway, not scoop with it. Flour reacts oddly to pressure and humidity. In fact, better to measure by weight than volume, but regardless, spooning and leveling off is preferred to scooping directly.
I was taught in Home Ec that to measure flour accurately, you need to spoon it into the measuring cup and level it off with a knife, not use the cup to scoop. That will put more flour in your bowl than the recipe calls for, sometimes this can cause baking failures! Pancakes are pretty forgiving, though… Where are you going to store this cube???
Looks like you take a teaspoon to measure out a teaspoon, a 1/4-cup to measure out a 1/4-cup, etc .etc. - dirty up a whole BUNCH of stuff rather than one.
A set of nested measuring cups and a set of nested measuring spoons with more in each than you showed would still be more functional and take up less room.
They also make collapsible silicone measuring devices now that push into flat when not in use that take up even LESS space than traditional ones. Could you imagine giving a child their liquid teaspoon of medicine with this cube? LOL
Might be kinda nice for measuring solids, but those tolerances are WAY too tight for liquids. It's also pretty bulky. Not exactly what I'd call space saving
I mean, kudos for the clever design, but this just seems wildly impractical. A set of measuring spoons/cups don't take up that much space, and are super cheap.
Couple things you didn't test was accuracy for both wet and dry ingredients compared to standard measuring cups and spoons. The other test that could have been tried was leveling dry ingredients. Many recipes call for leveling like flour sugar baking soda baking powder etc. Cake and cookie recipes are some examples.
Great review and testing of the product (as always). The cube was obviously invented by someone who doesn’t cook. The shape and size is so awkward and non-functional. I’m surprised that it got high reviews on Amazon - makes me suspicious of the reviews.
When it comes to baking, measurements often have to be precise (like for flour). Close enough is not optimal. There's also a new wave that uses weight (with a scale) instead of cups for measurements.
Hi! I love your channel, could you please do a review for bathtub water stoppers? I’ve seen some of silicone and would love to see if they actually work! Thanks so much!
Would be pointless in the UK as we generally use pounds and ounces or grams and kilograms for dry ingredients and for liquids we use millilitres and litres and fluid ounces and pints.
Makes a lot more sense to measure dry ingredients by weight. Table salt for instance takes up half the volume of flaked salt. Brown sugar has to be packed tightly when measuring by cup. Using a scale there is no guessing involved.
I actually printed this on my 3D printer a few years ago. They definitely ripped it off. I don’t need it for dry ingredients only wet ones, and it works perfect for me. I still have my original one and use it a few times a week.
This is definitely geared towards campers and the like. I could see it being nice for the RV. Gives you the ability to have all the measurements you need with one block. Not the easiest to use but still it's work in a pinch
Great review although the cube is ridiculous! I don't know what bothers me more, the price point or how inefficient it is. 😄 Thank you for saving us money, we truly appreciate your reviews!
Yeah, I don't think that is an effective replacement for a set of measuring cups. It makes a mess, is not easy to use, and makes more work instead of reducing effort.
This looks like a solution for a problem that doesn't exist. Glad I watched your review before buying some as Christmas gifts for people I know that cook/bake a lot. They would end up throwing it at me.
Kinda early but this product looks like such a bad idea. You need another cup to fill the little hole and then pour the ingredient and it looks pretty tedious.
The next gen measuring gadget is called a digital scale, if it's using the metric system it's even more precise. This is the solution for perfect pancakes and perfect anything related to measuring, you are welcome Imperial comment section. (Nothing on the video, love your content).
We've been cooking fine with imperial though? Notice the insecurity as it is typically people going "why use imperial, metric is betterrrrr" for no good reason.
@@amak1131 I agree anyone should use the system they are comfortable with, it's more of a recommendation for those that really struggle with the imprecision of the imperial system and overall "measuring tradition" using spoons and cups.

@@onetom2222 well, metric recipes are not usually just standard american measurements simply converted to metric. the one cup slot would be 236.5 ml liquid. as far as measuring in grams, which metric recipes call for, , that's weight, and a cup of flour is 120 grams while a cup of bread crumbs is 60 grams and a cup of rice is 190 grams. this cube claims to be both imperial and metric but it would be useless in a metric recipe.
As a Canadian, I laughed when you said "US and metric". Saw a conversation in the comments of a video recently where an American was being snarky about the metric system. He said it was "stupid", and "..who uses it anyway..." Ummm....🤔😄
The problem with all-in-one gadgets is that they try to solve problems that don't exist. The sheer amount of "benefits" ultimately result in a clunky product that can perform each task passably well, but nowhere near as well as the individual tools.
Honestly though, what could be more understated and more brilliant than a spoon? You can’t beat perfection. A measuring spoon wasn’t only not a problem, it was the best solution there could be!
Lol, this was made as a file for a 3D printer, I've seen a few things that started out as someones idea that they made a 3D printable object that turned into a store bought item. I sincerely doubt the original creator got any money though. Also, most things should be measured by weight anyway. Weight always gives a 100% accurate measurement but when you use volume measurements it depends on say the sugar, is is fine grain or more grainy. Also, if you shake flour it settles so there is actually more. I got a bread maker that only uses weight measurements so I got a scale and it is way better than cups and spoons.
As an European: if you want a universal usable measurement device, which you don't have to wash after every single ingredient, why not just use a scale? It's more precise anyway any you just have to wipe it down max cause only your bowls get dirty
This might have been functional if it was designed to separate into parts. Basically, make it a bit bigger to both allow for a fill line, and to make it so the various measuring parts could snap on and off, with at least some length of tab to hold onto so you could scoop things. Even then it wouldn't be terribly convenient really, but at least it would be somewhat usable.
Where such an all-in-one design is going to shine is for collage students, the kitchenette of an office break-room, or even in an efficiency apartments kitchen space.
I have one I printed on my 3D printer. I use it fairly often and it's pretty decent. The main reason I have it is so I don't have to use the wife's measureing spoons and cups because God knows she's got a list of rules and regulations for her kitchen stuff that would make Sheldon Cooper blush with envy. I can use my cube, rinse it out and toss it back in my drawer.
This was never intended to be a product but a cool diy concept for you to test your 3d printer with. Its a cool thing to print when you have a 3D printer as a demonstration, but they stole the free open design to sell as a product
8 ounces of water also weighs 8 ounces. That is how I double check my measuring cups. This device doesn’t make sense because I can buy measuring utensils at the store for a dollar. They are on a ring so they are all attached. I have a measuring spoon that slides. One item. My point is there are much more convenient and cheaper alternatives to this device.
This thing would be totally useless for me. I usually WEIGH my dry ingredients in grams, I rarely measure them by volume. If I am baking or making pizza dough, I will even weigh the water I use instead of using volume measurements.
The proper way to measure flower for baking recipes is to spoon it into your measuring device, try this instead of scooping with your measuring device and notice how moist your cakes and breads are.
Honestly I would use that cube as someone who just roughly estimates measurements using a dining spoon. It wouldn’t matter to me if the cube doesn’t leave enough space, as long as I see the measurements then I’m good.
Yup some one who just throws everything together in almost correct amounts ..willy-nilly cooking....i am 56 and do willy-nilly cooking but I am also teaching my 11 year old grand daughter to cook so I do proper cooking measurements with her...she needs to know the proper way first and this cube thing wouldn't work for that..
First realistic comment. I have seen someone use one, and that person is very happy with it. I see people complain about accuracy, but juts like you supposed to do, you can also scrape the top off to level the substance off, just like you would do with a normal measuring spoon. I think most people here have never baked a thing in their lives. Question - do you want to have a single device that is solid and can handle all your measuring needs, or do you want 10 little pieces of plastic laying around? Somehow, the first starts to make sense...
I think a good use for this is for someone who likes to cook but travels a lot since having a one piece cube minimizes the chance of losing tiny individual spoons.
I have 3D printed a few of these and agree with your review. They have moments of being useful but mostly they require other tools to measure. I ended up designing my own stackable ones that’s split the quarter and third measurements into their own measuring cups and just left the small measurements off since most of the time a spoon would work better.
The measuring spoon to the measuring Cube to the measuring bowl and you're all set, for pancakes! What a great idea, that i will not be purchasing untill my other measuring devices are all worn out..lol 🙄
A digital scale is rather a more convenient option for me as long as you memorized the weight amount for the measuring cup and spoons, you can just wing it without worrying about putting too much nor little and less clean up needed.
This would be perfect for when we use our travel trailer. Great job been watching your reviews for awhile, I would like to see you review cars and other big items maybe at Lowe's or homedepot type of items.. nice job
It looks neat. It is impractical. I find it useful to have multiple spoons and cups of the same measure. Like, I probably have 10 of the same, simple tablespoons and teaspoons for leaving in containers of dry goods.
I think the primary flaw as you pointed it out is you need a scoop to actually scoop either dry or liquid into that cube thing and it kind of defeats the whole purpose if you're doing it that way
Liquid measuring cups are different than cups used for dry. Also I would be curious to see you level off the ingredients. This is because I think it would be impossible to not get what you are measuring in the other slots. The device seems impractical for exact measurements.
You have more patience than I. I would have declared that a write-off from the get go. I mean, half of the utility of measuring spoons is scooping product out of the container.

"These 10 as-seen-on-tv kitchen gadgets claim to give you more horsepower and more mpg, we're going to test that!"
"The Kitchen Cube is made in China."
Cake and cookie recipes are some examples.
can you imagine trying to pack brown sugar into it, for a proper measure?
Honestly, as bad as the idea already sucked, it would have just been a waste of his and your time.
I saw Barry Lewis review this and he said it was basically hot garbage.
I knew this looked familiar…
MOM: Okay, open your mouth for this medicine
KID: Mom, that's bigger than my Rubik's cube
Keep up the honest reviews! Much appreciated!
This reminds me of a, "Pet Rock", a popular Christmas present that, in the end, wasn't useful.
Love the K-tel t-shirt! Warped me right back to my childhood! #nostalgia
Thanks again for taking one for the team. Hard pass on this one.
I actually printed this on my 3D printer a few years ago. They definitely ripped it off. I don’t need it for dry ingredients only wet ones, and it works perfect for me. I still have my original one and use it a few times a week.
How accurate is it really? I will stick with what I have been using🤓
This is definitely geared towards campers and the like.
A physicist designed this for his baker partner!😂 or a person who is scared of washing dishes after meal prep designed it. Take your pick! Lol
Great review. Appreciate the time and money you spend to bring us these reviews.
Honestly if you can find super good looking oven mitts, that's a solid gift
I wouldn't even buy that for my camping kit. Not really space saving. Thanks for reviewing though, I clicked on this fast!
This is the example of "trying to solve a problem that never exist"
Kinda early but this product looks like such a bad idea. You need another cup to fill the little hole and then pour the ingredient and it looks pretty tedious.

Because when I think about making things stream line and simple, I always think of large blocks
I have one and I use it occasionally. It does not replace regular measuring spoons. It works well for bread machine recipes for me.
i can see right off that it wont fit in the drawer where i keep items for this purpose. the liquid didnt pour out very good, it dribbled . this might be the dumbest thing i have ever seen. props to you for not just tossing it in the bone yard right away. it might be better suited for keeping loose change and such in
19 imperial *and* metric (they inflated the number by including the metric separately)
sneaky
yup, and the two systems do not translate exactly either.
@@nonyabizness.original what do you mean? Both state volume?
@@onetom2222 well, metric recipes are not usually just standard american measurements simply converted to metric. the one cup slot would be 236.5 ml liquid. as far as measuring in grams, which metric recipes call for, , that's weight, and a cup of flour is 120 grams while a cup of bread crumbs is 60 grams and a cup of rice is 190 grams.
this cube claims to be both imperial and metric but it would be useless in a metric recipe.
@@nonyabizness.original ok, you mean going by volume and going by weight.
This is the first thing I printed when I got my A8 plus.
You could have used the regular spoon to fill up the teaspoons and tablespoons
(or...used a regular spoon...period)! Eyeball it.
Thank this guy for taking one for the team.
You still could have just bought your own set of measure spoons.
@@barneylaurance1865 Why would I do that? If a set of measuring spoons was what I wanted I'd have printed them instead of the cube.
Love your videos
Keep up the good work
This is the kind of gadget you put in a fancy modern house where people don’t actually cook
😄😄😄 overzealous minimalist house
Thank you so much 💓. I love your reviews.
This could win the Craziest Contraption award.
Glad I saw this review. I may have tried this out. Thanks for saving me a few bucks and some frustration!
You don't HAVE to use a measuring spin to put it in the cube. You could use a normal tea spoon or anything else that scoops.
Another good work of you Freakin
With baking the measurements need to be exact. I don’t think that would cut it
Humans: YOU FOOL WE HAVE TO SAVE THE PLANET STOP POLLUTING!
Also humans: A plastic cube with 19 measuring... err 10 measuring scoops? THIS IS AWESOME.
You just saved me money! You rock, my new friend!
Great job been watching your reviews for awhile, I would like to see you review cars and other big items maybe at Lowe's or homedepot type of items.. nice job
“Family. Meet me at. Kitchen Cube. D’oh. D’oh. D’oh.”
I can get a whole set of measuring cups and spoons for $1.17 at Wal-Mart. Way easier than that cube and way cheaper.
It looks neat. It is impractical.
I find it useful to have multiple spoons and cups of the same measure. Like, I probably have 10 of the same, simple tablespoons and teaspoons for leaving in containers of dry goods.
This just seems like someone solving a problem that never existed
I think the primary flaw as you pointed it out is you need a scoop to actually scoop either dry or liquid into that cube thing and it kind of defeats the whole purpose if you're doing it that way
Liquid measuring cups are different than cups used for dry. Also I would be curious to see you level off the ingredients. This is because I think it would be impossible to not get what you are measuring in the other slots. The device seems impractical for exact measurements.
This is just baking but with extra steps. 😆
I was hoping he'd say "and on Amazon, it said you could use this as a whisk, too, but let's see."
You have more patience than I. I would have declared that a write-off from the get go. I mean, half of the utility of measuring spoons is scooping product out of the container.
