Going both ways with a peeler is a skill that usually takes a bit of practice. I was a chef for about a year, and I never did enough peeling to bother to practice it. It's definitely a handheld multi purpose peeler, as opposed to a potato peeler or a full sized multipurpose peeler. I think it's pretty awesome for smaller tasks or for someone who does not want to own a full sized peeler.

I’m not surprised that the grater failed with cheese. That style grater is made for garlic or ginger (like you mentioned) - something you want to end up more mushy. Or maybe a hard cheese that you want powdery, like Parmesan.
Grated (turned into mush/powder) vs shredded )cut into short fine strips).

I have both styles of peelers in my kitchen albeit not these particular brands. I also don’t like the way you have to hold/use the Irish style peeler and I have cut myself several times because of that. So I do use it for those items but I now stick a fork in the veggie to hold it in place and save my fingers from harm.

I love beef jerky, my favorite brand so far is Old trapper. Tried many other from my local stores, love old trapper as they seem to give the most in their pack than others.

With the potatoes, hold potato upright on cutting board and peel from top to bottom. Then get ends. 😊

The potato eye remover would have worked if you had Twisted it like you did the Oxo one. Thanks for the demo. I use a similar peeler that would look like one half of that one and you do pull away from yourself. If you use that longer you might like it better.

That's a peeler that everyone can appreciate. Especially Granma. Granma's got arthritis, she can't be doing kitchen work with any other kind o tools.

I would rather use a grater to shred cabbage. I agree that I wouldn't want to push the peeler forward, I thought this when you did that review for the other peelers. Really I prefer the style of the OXO, but my mom got a Y shaped one at Bed, Bath & Beyond. Then, she found some little ones that I think are supposed to be Swiss? She said they are very sharp. Personally, I did agree with her that the eye remover on the small peelers were great. I still prefer the OXO where I feel more in control.
Aaaah, the beef jerky makes me long for Korean BBQ Beef Jerky I tasted at Costo a few years ago.

I'm surprised you don't have a cut resistant glove from all the products you've reviewed

For kitchen gadgets, I personally find both Oxo and Cuisinart are consistently the best. Cost a little more than other brands, but worth it in the long run.

I think the reason you describe the texture as being soft and crumbly is because most beef jerky is not made with brisket. When you use brisket there is a lot more intramuscular fat and when that fat melts away it causes it to be crumbly. Not to mention giving you a much softer product simply because of the cut of meat used. You can imagine the difference between dehydrating a piece of strip loin and dehydrating brisket you would be left with much different texture

That looked like great beef jerky! You should flow that up with a review on microwave pork rinds! I've always been curious about those.

Great video as always. I don't know if you still do the merchandise I've seen under some of your videos (or even if you have control over the designs on offer) but I was thinking you should include your catchphrases on some of them. 'Smooth As Silk!' over a broken product or 'I have to say, I'm kinda surprised!' I'm sure others could come up with some more too.

I thought the grater section was actually for pushing down onto garlic to mince it. I've seen a garlic mincer that you use by pushing down and rocking

I have several orange peelers in my drawer that are just that little plastic cutter nub with a little finger guard ring. They’re maybe the size of a quarter and would come free with oranges from Harry & David fruit catalog orders (I did some food photography for them years ago).

When you held up the packs of jerky for the first time, and I saw the yellow label I instantly thought, is that ALPO flavored jerky? I think the label looks like the ALPO can from the 70s.

Hey James me and the kids love the show and always watch together.
We all are wondering is there an Ikea near you, most of the things you review, we have the Ikea version, and they are not perfect but they are for yhe price. Like the peeler, we buy 2 or 3 every year or so, they cost a dollar and are very sharp. Also we got a 3pc knife set that only cost 10 and stays sharp.
