Going both ways with a peeler is a skill that usually takes a bit of practice. I was a chef for about a year, and I never did enough peeling to bother to practice it. It's definitely a handheld multi purpose peeler, as opposed to a potato peeler or a full sized multipurpose peeler. I think it's pretty awesome for smaller tasks or for someone who does not want to own a full sized peeler.

I have both styles of peelers in my kitchen albeit not these particular brands. I also don’t like the way you have to hold/use the Irish style peeler and I have cut myself several times because of that. However it is much more efficient on thick skinned veggies such as squash and rutabaga. So I do use it for those items but I now stick a fork in the veggie to hold it in place and save my fingers from harm.

I’m not surprised that the grater failed with cheese. That style grater is made for garlic or ginger (like you mentioned) - something you want to end up more mushy. Or maybe a hard cheese that you want powdery, like Parmesan.
Grated (turned into mush/powder) vs shredded )cut into short fine strips).

@@Freakinreviews The price difference on things can be quite jarring at times, usually on smaller items from smaller companies. More popular things from major brands are generally priced according to the exchange rate. One thing I'd love to see you test is a Breville Pizzaiolo oven, I really want a trusted opinion on it. LOL

I filleted part of my finger off peeling a potato with a really wide peeler, holding it like you were when you were worried about it. Now I only use one like the oxo.

I thought the grater section was actually for pushing down onto garlic to mince it. I've seen a garlic mincer that you use by pushing down and rocking

When you held up the packs of jerky for the first time, and I saw the yellow label I instantly thought, is that ALPO flavored jerky? I think the label looks like the ALPO can from the 70s.

I like the more moist tender jerky’s. The drier ones always feel tough and like they might rip my teeth out. 😂

Idk if I have some kind of magic peeler, but we have had ours (plastic) for 20 years and hasn’t broken. Maybe people just aren’t using it right or something bc everyone hates on them.

I think the reason you describe the texture as being soft and crumbly is because most beef jerky is not made with brisket. When you use brisket there is a lot more intramuscular fat and when that fat melts away it causes it to be crumbly. Not to mention giving you a much softer product simply because of the cut of meat used. You can imagine the difference between dehydrating a piece of strip loin and dehydrating brisket you would be left with much different texture

i got something similar from a mall demo 3 yrs ago and i still have it. i keep it in the freezer as advised by the seller to keep it sharp and it is sharp up to this day. i only use the peeler and the julienne blade and i don't really use the other features.

I had never heard that keeping blades in the freezer will keep them sharp. I just googled and it seems to be a myth.

I would probably go for the oxy, hope I spelled that right . The best jerky I've ever had is right here in the small west ,tx town I live at. Klemkes BBQ and Jerky. It's mostly Jerky, one of the big buildings burned down sometimes during the night. Great video btw 👌.

I have several orange peelers in my drawer that are just that little plastic cutter nub with a little finger guard ring. They’re maybe the size of a quarter and would come free with oranges from Harry & David fruit catalog orders (I did some food photography for them years ago).

Go for the oxo every time. With a potato I like to peel a complete strip or a circle all the way around longways down over and back up to the start and only with the oxo - then peel a strip all the way around the the shorter girth. That peels most of the potato, leaving about 4 smaller patches to zip off in a jiffy. Im convinced the green one is not so safe to use. You - or me, needs a learners permit before a qualifed drivers licence to use one of those and make sure you never exceed the speed limit round corners on one of those green ones. Slow down and watch out for the unexpected, especially in slipery conditions. Sincerely take care.

I already have an Oxo peeler so I feel I am set. I really enjoyed the jerky review. I am a big fan of jerky but am accustomed to a very dry texture. It would have been great if they provided a discount code for your subscribers.
