I use VCDS 15.7 software and I ordered it from Aliexpress more than 5 years ago (~10€). Now they sell 19.* versions. Basically VCDS works with all VAG group cars and you can find many tutorials for the beginners in youtube. Yes, it is required when you retrofitting new components to your car.

As you have seen in my video, you don't have to solder or cut any wires whatsoever. This is straight swap and you need MFSW, compatible module, new MFSW harness and most likely wiper stalker switch without menu buttons.

Correct, firstly you have to change SWCM, which is compatible for buttons on steering wheel. Then you have to change wiper stalker with non-button option, as with button one it can go to conflict with SW buttons. Finally you have to swap SW wire harness to get SW buttons to work.
I'm trying to do this to my 2010 golf wagon. By doing this will that give me access to more information on the info cluster in the dash. I have a base model so it only shows temp, time ODM and trip

Yes, you should change the sw control module to highline version one, also therefore you should change slip ring. Great video, did the display already have a menu? because im thinking about doing this but i dont have a menu on the display now, does the new swcm contain the menu software? and do all the functions work.

Hi there! I have a Golf Vi and I want to put the same flattened steering wheel that you have put, the one that I still have on also has a multifunction, would it be necessary to code when putting the new steering wheel or can I remove one and put another one without more?
So guys, if your car is newer than 2010 month 6 or something like that, you have no swcm under the steering column, the control module is integrated in the clock spring. Check before you buy anything
Very true. I checked mine yesterday and the location is exactly as stated here. Luckily for me; my SWCM is the updated one with part number: 5K0953549B , so I don’t need to change it when I do the Steering swap. Edit: It turns out I only needed a faceplate with buttons and no coding was needed!

Thank you
i can't understand where the new buttons are connected and why you've changed the wiper stalker (is it helping to connect and activate the new steering wheel buttons ?)
New buttons are connected with new harness with new steering wheel control module. Wiper stalker needs to replaced as old wiper can go to conflict, when operating with steering wheel buttons and same time having buttos on wiper stalker.
Wiper stalker needs to be replaced, as both menu buttons in stalker and new wheel can go into conflict. Therefore it´s wise to change them, as cost of this is really nothing.
Do you think I can do it with my VW Polo 2016 Comfortline 1.4 TDI 75CV/55kW? I need to change also the radio in an Italian Composition Media with Apple Car Play, change automatic clima control and add park system. How to change on PC all settings?

It's strange. I looked to see if someone had maybe cut it or something but no trace of anybody tampering with the wire. Looked online but there's no talk about any MK6 Golf w/o the module. Strange.
Maybe some of the very basic models didn't had control module for steering wheel. Try to search from internet Golf 6 different wiper and high beam switches and you can see, that there are two options - one with connector to connect with SWCM and other with no connector. Most likely you have second option.
Hello, I have a question and I hope you will answer. I was thinking about buying from Golf 7 steering wheel and to replace it into Golf 6, are there same procedure or? Thank you.
I think there is no difference between Golf 6 or Golf 7 steering wheel, as buttons are located similary. Steering harness plugs can be different. SWCM should work as well with Golf 7 steering wheel.
this is only needed, in case you want the bottom flat (GTI) steering wheel, otherwise you can just install the buttons. but they are different ...GTI version and standard.
I would like to get those things but for a volkswagen jetta 2012, where can I get them? Or can you give me more information about the pieces (name, etc) Thank you
Just wondering if you maybe know. If I replace a mk6 tdi multifunction round steering wheel for a mulitfication button flat steering wheel. Would it be a straight swap or would I still need additional parts?
If you have steering wheel with similar button layout and functionality (most likely you have), then this should be straight swap without additional parts.
If you use your old stalker with buttons, then steering wheel buttons may go into conflict with stalker buttons. Airbag harness should be changed, as new harness has wires for steering wheel buttons.

From what I'm getting is all that works bc it's activating the setting in the ecm, pcm, bcm as long as you have a tiptronic dsg transmission because my cars interior is exactly the same as his and I do not have any steering wheel controls so I'm hoping this comp program he used don't cost much bc all them parts from the factory expensive

Hi and thx for The video. 🙏🏼 do you know if its possible to just keep the old wiper stalker or does it have to be replaced in order to function? I don’t mind the extra buttons. 😅 and a happy new years.
What happens when you don't replace the wiper stalk? Will the extra buttons not work, still work or will the steering wheel controls not work? By the way, excellent video, helped me find the parts and I will watch it again when they arrive! :)
If you use your old wiper stalker with buttons, then it might get conflict with buttons on new steering wheel.
@@MX007100 i have a 2012 mk6 golf, will i need a new SWCM or will it already have it?
@@imadmiah9953 Hello. You don’t need one I because yours is even a 2012 model and mine is a 2011 but it came with one already. You can do a check by removing the top plastic cover on your steering wheel column, just use a plastic tool or flat and lift up and you’ll see the switch with part number!
@@MX007100 thank you, highly appreciate it that! 👍
is it necessary to replace the wiper switch as well or can it be done without?
@@RagucciDoko yes
@@RagucciDoko no problem
Amazing video. To the point. Just one question. I have trendline Golf. Super basic. Basic MFD, no factory Bluetooth, nothing. I do have RCD330 like yours, which works amazing. My question is, does all buttons on steering wheel work? Does Mic button work for CarPlay and Android Auto? The up down and back button on the right side, do they work? If yes, what do they do? Considering I have basic MFD, just wondering what they do.
Also does the call button on the steering work? Since my car doesn’t have factory Bluetooth.
I am trying to retrofit my mk4 gti to mk6 steering wheel with steering wheel buttons if I get a mk6 sterting wheel control module and code it will it work ?
Love your video. One question I have, it might sound stupid, but i have a different unit as an audio device, and if i don't want to use the buttons on the steering wheel, but I want them to be lid(the buttons to have the lights on), will i be able to swap the steering wheel without the module change and the airbag harness to be changed? Thank you
Does the code for the control module matter? Which ones work with the steering wheel?
Do you need to remove the steering wheel if you only want to replace the steering wheel module ???
i can't understand where the new buttons are connected and why you've changed the wiper stalker (is it helping to connect and activate the new steering wheel buttons ?)
New buttons are connected with new harness with new steering wheel control module. Wiper stalker needs to replaced as old wiper can go to conflict, when operating with steering wheel buttons and same time having buttos on wiper stalker.
Do you have to change the wiper stalk or can you just code it out
Wow what a reply but fucking much isn’t it of course I watched the video I was asking if you HAVE to change it
Wiper stalker needs to be replaced, as both menu buttons in stalker and new wheel can go into conflict. Therefore it´s wise to change them, as cost of this is really nothing.
Thanks for the reply I’ve already ordered one just to be on the safe side only waiting for that to come and I can sort everything out
Do you think I can do it with my VW Polo 2016 Comfortline 1.4 TDI 75CV/55kW? I need to change also the radio in an Italian Composition Media with Apple Car Play, change automatic clima control and add park system. How to change on PC all settings?
Will this work on 2013 polo are the wiring and steering wheel module the same?
Why new aribag harness?! The stering wheel was complete mufu with airbag and I mean the right harness?! Can u explain me why?
Old airbag dude
Hi, thanks for the video, i have a tiguan 2014, these Will be the same procedure? And the same parts numbers? Thanks for the help
Most likely procedure is the same but parts may be different. You have to search from internet about similar swap for Tiguan.
What is the difference with module 1k0 953 549 CD or CH? A lot say to take CH
CH is with steering angle sensor, CD is without. Look here, list of different STW modules and description: wiki.ross-tech.com/wiki/index.php/Steering_Wheel_Control_Module_Versions
@@lutz6441 Okey I don’t know if i have steering angle sensor so i still take the CH for sure, Thank you so much for the answer !
while removing airbag: Breathing intense
after removing airbag: pheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew
@Lutz .... if you used the old indicator stalks.... would the dash status screen have worked with the stalk buttons or with steering wheel buttons??? im just wondering if i need to waste money on new stalks if old one would still work fine for wipers and indicators
If you remain both buttons, then they go in to conflict and not working correctly. Stalker with no buttons is rather very cheap, from Aliexpress.
I did the same plus changed can gateway and got airbag fault, no power steering & esp light. Any ideas what it could be?? Totally bewildered
Most likely there is some coding error. Try to use copy of some other car coding.
Hello. the same operation goes to polo 6r 2015? thanks.
it's a triple square to remove bolt 10 bucks for the set of 4 at autozone
Mine has problem with putting airbag, one clip is in, others aren't. I'm affraid if I push too hard airbag would trigger
Are these parts suitable for Golf 6 1.6 TDI 2009 because when I search them on AliExpress they say They don’t fit? If not, which should I use
Sure, there is no difference, if this is Golf 6 from 2009, then these parts should fit.
So you used your original airbag and just changed the harness inside? I'm wanting to use an airbag from a base model on a gli wheel with paddles. That will work?
Yes, I used old steering wheel airbag and harness should be changed. Base model airbag with flat bottom steering wheel should be fit.
My 2011 MK6 Golf TDI didn't come with the steering wheel control module. All the videos I've seen comes with it? Is it possible to install a MFSW on my car?
I´m not 100% sure, but it seems, that you have to change both wiper and high beam switch, in order to connect control module.
@@lutz6441 I bought all the parts (left high beam w/ cruse control / right without the button at the end, spring clock, the whole list) but when I tried to install it the didn't have the steering wheel control module on the bottom of the steering column that all the videos has.
Great job mate !!
I would like to get those things but for a volkswagen jetta 2012, where can I get them? Or can you give me more information about the pieces (name, etc)
Thank you
Hi, whether your cluster is Maxi-dot type?
@lutz
Can I do the same with a Golf 7?
Because I do not have a multifunction steering wheel
Did you need to use VCDS to make the shifters work?
Just wondering if you maybe know. If I replace a mk6 tdi multifunction round steering wheel for a mulitfication button flat steering wheel. Would it be a straight swap or would I still need additional parts?
If you have steering wheel with similar button layout and functionality (most likely you have), then this should be straight swap without additional parts.
Hi guys, I have a passat b7 2013. Could you help me what kind of stuff do i need for this?
Why didnt you keep shooting as you test new wheel?
Hasan Guvercin he was hit in the face by the airbag 😁
Can mk6 with multifunction wheel fit on mk5 with non multifunction wheel?
Hi, why did you change the airbag harness and the wiper stalker?
If you use your old stalker with buttons, then steering wheel buttons may go into conflict with stalker buttons. Airbag harness should be changed, as new harness has wires for steering wheel buttons.
hello congratulations for the really interesting and complete video, above all very clear and descriptive, I have 2 questions to ask you. first question the work you have done and with the pieces you have changed do the paddles also work?
second question I have a golf v gti with dsg gearbox without paddle, and I would like to mount the steering wheel of the golf 6 gti with the paddles, what should I change, and kindly if you can also give me the codes thanks in advance, for me it is important your answer
Please clarify. I have what looks to be the same original wheel here. But he uses the same airbag to put on GTI rim. I’ve read in a forum that a regular Mark six steering wheel airbag will not fit on the GTI wheel even though they look very much the same is that true? I’ve got a mk6 Jetta S no bells no whistles. Hate the plastic wheel
But look my video and you can see, that I had original non-MF wheel and airbag was possible to fit with new GTI wheel. I don’t know what in forum is described, but I did this swap and it works well.
Hi becouse is necessary changes 5he stokes?
do you have to replace the stalker or can you just switch the module
You have to change wiper stalker with non-button option, as with button one it can go to conflict with SW buttons.
@@lutz6441 oh alright do both stalks have to have no buttons or just one
@@dvplays3388 As you operate cruise control with turn signal stalker, then this stalker should have buttons. If you don´t have cruise control, then it´s not the case.
@@lutz6441 yes i dont have cruise control but i have buttons for the whipers so will i need to change it or can i keep my current one
@@dvplays3388 Buttons for the wipers are OK and you can keep current one. If wiper stalker has additional buttons for operating MFD menu, then you have to replace it.
