Always appreciate your viewpoint about Angelina. I don't understand how she can scan the lyrics now and again and never stumble or lose the pacing of the song. Confidence and lack of nervousness helps but i think there's an innate ability beyond my comprehension that also plays a part.

Did you notice she had a photo.of her grandpa on the wall behind her she looked at it at the beginning of the song it's a beautiful version by Angelina but everything she sings is beautiful to me she is not afraid to let us see her checking the lyrics or what ever she writes notes on paper if she's changed anything her self which she does quite often so she checking all the time so she gets it right she is a perfectionist that's what makes her so great and yes your right when she's on stage she just remembers it all she is just beyond amazing I just adore Angelina she always makes me happier that's for sure great reaction ❤️from Denise in Yorkshire ❤️👼🏻👍👋XX

Am I crazy to think the secret of an enduring song is that it has well placed changes in tempo and melidy... this song for instances I counted at least 8 changes in tempo and 4 melody changes in a set that repeats itself with cool choruses between. Angelina is a master at accentuating thes changes with beatifull negative spacing for the listener to digest each change and each lyric...

I read a comment on another review, where Angelina was using her mobile during the performance. They said that Angelina was doing her calculus homework on her phone while singing the song.
I think she is just not bothered to fully memorise the lyrics. She appears to have been methodically going through a process of recording as wide as possible range of songs, probably not spending much time on anyone of them. She could be doing that to develop her skills and/or to find what style suits her. Anyway the fact she has amassed such a large body of work is great for us fans.
The fact that Angelin can perform so flawlessly while still reading some of the lyrics is amazing. I agree with you that that skill would be much appreciated in some sections of the music industry.
That sounds plausible. I imagine getting the arrangement and singing style right will take some time. Memorizing the last 5% of the lyrics up to 100% is probably second priority then.
It reminds me of when she sang La Boheme to her sister 2-3 years before it was released on the album. The lyrics are quite difficult, and she clearly didn’t know them at that point. Juliette was climbing on her the whole time, yet she didn’t miss a beat.

Nice find, GreyWolf. A really great performance from Angelina, on a difficult song, with great as ever backing from Ivan.

My theory (and it's just a theory) was that Angelina did this as another dedication to her grandpa on the anniversary of his passing. The dates seem to line up, and she makes a point of looking at his photo at the beginning and end of the video. About the lyrics.... you will often see Angelina reading the lyrics from a phone, tablet, sheet, etc. Even in her concerts she seem to have lyric sheets somewhere nearby. ...but you have to remember, she has covered so many songs (131 just by my count). It is probably hard to remember all those lyrics when someone else wrote them, but I imagine as she gets deeper into her own original works, we will see the lyric sheets go away.
She can have all the perfection assistants she thinks she needs. All that "stuff" just adds to my admiration to her for all she is accomplishing however she achieves it!!!

My guess is that she's not looking at the lyrics, but at the musical notes to match the lyrics with the correct pitch & intonation required for that particular line. It was crystal clear when she was doing the cover of Adele's "When we were young". Great reaction as usual!
I think the total opposite. The music, it's melody and how to phrase the lyrics is something she feels from within, but from time to time she needs a reminder of the exact words of the song
@@YozhikvTumane I'm pretty sure it's the words as well. I have the same problem. The melody and chords are easy for me to remember but I don't always remember all the words. Since music comes so naturally to Angelina, I'm sure she has no problems with the melodies.

Thanks for your reaction. I think Angelina suddenly hears a song she likes, and prints out the lyrics, and just sits down to sing and reads it along the way. I hardly think she needs to practice much either.
Don't read too much into her hands, her breathing, or the lyrics. She is the most confident, comfortable singer I have seen in my long life. Watch her hands in the Whitney cover, or in I put a spell on you. In any particular song she will be natural, confident, and pure genius. On top of all her brilliance, she remains unassuming, and not afraid at all of showing too many feelings, making a mistake, or worrying about the audience. I share your appreciation of her work. I am hopelessly addicted to this one, this gift from God himself......

Yes, I noticed that as well in just about all of her videos, I don't know if that's a plus or negative, but it does remind me of another genius who also needed his lines right off of camera in all of his movies, and that was Marlin Brando.

gary I believe this is one of her most underrated and underappreciated songs.
Now that you've heard this, you should check out the original on your own. You will see why she is a "song righter," which i mistakenly said once, but is seems to fit. Just in case you haven't heard the big news, Angelina has signed with Republic Records as their highest priority new artist. New album soon I hope!

I think when she does these songs like that she has done this in all most all her songs think it is more of an rehearsal type video. Ivan is my

She had notes in I Put a Spell On You, and other pieces with Ivan. Obviously not I'm Feeling Good, Bohemian. I went and listened to the original. She makes it a real song. As always she deepened it.

Although Angelina didn’t say so, I’m almost sure she was singing this song to her grandfather. You can feel the pain in her voice. It was released about 13 month after he passed away and might have been recorded few weeks earlier around the time of the first anniversary of his death. According to Angelina he was in pain the last few months of his life. At the beginning of this song, she glances behind her at his photo as if she is saying: This is for you grandpa, now that you’re in heaven, I want you to be happier. Again at the end of the song she glances back at his photo as if she heard him say: Bravo Angelina.
Ivan Mendez complements Angelina very well. He plays several instruments and is a very good singer too. He has a RUclips channel called IVAN LIVES.

Can someone clarify for me. Is Angelina played over the airways in the UK? I have never heard her played on radio stations in the USA. Other artists we don't hear on the radio here include Aurora, Dimash, Danyela and Diana. I am so envious if Brits actually get to hear these artists.

Someone in the UK might be able to better clear that for you.
In North America most music stations are affiliated with large entertainment companies who own many of the music labels and tend to play artists who are signed to those music labels or other artists who are very popular and are on the charts. It is very rare that these stations play independent artist or RUclipsrs especially if they are under the age of 16 except maybe at special celebrations like Xmas etc.
@@marionrenner7887 She has finally signed with Republic, who have no problem getting airplay for their artists. We just have to be patient for her to release an album

A great review of this performance as always. You obviously know a lot about music and hearing you eloquently express yourself is sometimes as enjoyable as what you’re reacting to. This isn’t one of my favorites, and I have also never heard the original. I think I’ll just be satisfied hearing her version.

This is not a comparison of there music but of there journey.
Taylor started at a young age, had (have) very supportive parents (musically inclined) signed with a record company at age 14 and at 15 signed a record deal with Scott Borchetta
She had control over most of her work. And now look at her.
Sort of reminds me of Angelina. There music is mostly different.
Taylor already a very powerful woman and Angelina soon to be a powerful woman herself.
The biggest difference i see is in fan appeal. Swift's fans tend to be young girls whereby Angelina's fan base is more diverse. Adults and seniors comprise a large fan base for Angelina. This is in large part to her talent in singing jazz. Now that she has done covers of more current performers and with the popularity of her AGT appearance, she has clearly increased her fan base to include a younger audience.
My guess is she doesn't know the song by heart. and needs to reference it when she need so. the girl has done so many covers that i don't think she has enough time to learn/practice again and again.

Fans of Angelina know full well that she writes something on sheets of paper and then refers to those papers while singing. Angelina could raise a lot of money for her charities by auctioning off those pieces of paper. I certainly would love to own the papers for one song but probably could not out bid others. :(

About reading lyrics, my guess is that she uses it as a security feature. For example in Norway got talent in 2014 she sang "I am a fool to want you" ruclips.net/video/LXknLZDoRVQ/видео.html acapella in front of Judges without reading the lyrics. I remember seeing some other occasion where she sang this song without lyrics. I guess when she practiced to sing it acapella she must have listened and sung it countless times. Then probably 3 (maybe 4) years after the Talent competition she records this song in the studio ruclips.net/video/SGx0djXTXQk/видео.html and practically all the time looks at the phone to follow the lyrics. My guess again, it is a safety feature - she does not want to spend her concentration on recalling what is the next word.

You said in an early video that you have a good ear, so I'm sure you'll pick up his "mishits" and his lateness on some notes and chords.

Yes of course she must, I think it’s a little bit of both. This girl is phenomenal.
Although Angelina sings this song beautifully, the original is much more dynamic and fits better I think to the lyrics. Angelina is too soft for is this song. Although I love her singing she is one of the top two female singers on earth at this time in my opinion I prefer the original. Forgive me Angelina. This is not a song I would particularly listen to, so I listened to the original right after her performance here and I have to say I prefer the style and cadence of the original from Bastille.
I think what makes the original more dynamic sounding is the full studio backing track compared to a simple pared down acoustic guitar. Stylistically, the vocals are not that much different. I think I prefer Angelina's on this one. I think she actually had a bit more swag.
