Which dumbbells are right for your home gym and why? Rep Fitness fully knurled Dumbbells are my perfect price to performance fixed dumbbells for my needs & space: www.repfitness.com/#5f3b28f9517b0
Love the channel and the energy you bring to your reviews! No matter what option you go with, it is amazing how expensive they are when you talk about building a full set. I have a 5-50lb set and the Pepin dumbbells to replace 50-120lbs. Just don’t have the space (or the money) to get 55-120lb dumbbells.
This video was really informative. I just hit 70lb dumbells for 12 reps on bench for the first time and looking to get a set of 80s soon. Ive been able to get good deals on dumbbells so far, but the deals may be over with the heavier weights. I have the rubber heads with ergonomics handle but am considering getting the fully knurled with rubber hex. Didn't consider those before this video, so thanks!
I went with the Rep rubber 5 thru 50 set. I always wear gloves when lifting anything metal. I want to go glove free but still have excellent grip. Just ordered tonight tho. But can't wait to go crazy with them. Thanks for that info
They feel great 50lbs and under. But 60 lbs and over the straight handles feel better balanced to me. They great dumbells. Only downside is it's hard to read the numbers. I used the marker above and they amazing
I have been using IronMaster adjustable dumbbells. They have the knurling, can be dropped, and they feel like a regular dumbbell. The balance is even close after I added the heavy kit, which are plates that screw on the inside of the ends. It makes the dumbbell handle shorter and more similar to a regular. Without the heavy kit plates, the handle is longer to accommodate the end caps that screw into the end to hold the plates.
I’ve had mine since 2013 and used them nearly every day. They are indestructible. Way better than any other adjustable DBs. Price has gone way up though. Think I paid $500 for the 75lb kit plus the storage rack and then another $200 to take them up to 120lbs. It costs more than that for the basic DBs alone now.
I've had mine now for about a year, I have the 75lb kit + the heavy handle kit bringing them up to 95lb_they are awesome and indestructible. The best purchase I ever made. Does take a little getting used to to change plates quickly. I would definitely buy them again
Hi NoFate247: Every different dumbbell sets have their pros and cons. My friends, and I have the Ivanko RM Dumbbells with the Steel 1.25 End Plates, purchased from Burbank Fitness in 1992. The M in RM is Machined. When we first decided to purchase a dumbbell set from 5-150 pounds, we looked at all of the different types. We had to make our fixed dumbbells by making the dumbbells with iron plates (2.5/5/7.5/10/12/15), and a dumbbell handle/bolts/steel end plates. Ivanko recommends using Locktite, and torquing the dumbbell bolts to 140 pounds. Sorry for the red color, not sure what happened.
My favorite will always be the Troy pro style dumbbells. I want to buy a set but they're expensive so I'm just gonna go with some iron hex dumbbells for my future home gym.
Impressive you have one of each type! I really love my Rep dumbbells with the fully knurled handles and the lifetime warranty! 💪🏼🇺🇸🙌🏼 Don’t save it for the trip back !
I found the Nexo Fitness straight knurled handle Hex Rubber dumbbells from Strength Depot to be effectively the same as the REP Fitness ones. Less expensive, also free shipping, no tax and 10% discount with coupon code. But thanks for the tip on straight bar over ergo.

I plan on building a home gym. Wanted to buy a dumbbell set but it's too expensive so gonna break it down starting with an adjustable bench and dumbbell rack. Is there any cheaper options for thr heavier dumbbells
I have the Fray Fitness ergonomic dumbbells (5-75lbs), and I ordered the gungnir dumblers with steel plates from WeightItOut to go from (80lbs-180lbs). Knowing what I uhh...know now, I probably wouldve gotten pro-style dumbbells instead of the ergonomic ones (of course, it was a purchase during the pandemic so its not like there were much choices), but Im very happy with what I got. And I got the dumblers because I wanted the option to get heavier weights without sacrificing space (and in the event that I do have to give up space, I can give up the fixed set knowing I had the dumblers).
@@NoFate247 oh yeah! My experience with Fray has been positive overall! My dumbbells arrived on time and without any scratches or dents. Im even thinking of upgrading and upgrading to a savage rack down the line!
