Man I am new to airbrush and I have made it through all of your videos. What you are putting out here is just invaluable to anyone who wants to learn. I really appreciate what you do. Keep rocking it.
Not trash! Don't forget to record those instances of 'eating through basecoat' because they can be incredibly useful for creating various textures you might want to add (and usually paint over with matt paint topcoats): armor, clothing on figures, diorama textures, damage texture, etc.
I've had a client asking me to paint a C-3PO piece for years, and nothing I've tested has come close to what we wanted. This looks like it might be it, though... Great find and great share, BR!
Another great review of a different brand of paint. I've had Custom Paint as one of my internet favorites and have a couple of their "CANZ" products but none of their "Inspire" line. That will soon change thanks to your review. I can't wait for your review of other "Inspire" products. Thank you for another great and informative video.
Looking at the result of the spoons really make me thinking about my next project repainting my kits with chrome, that would be great! Nice information, sir thank you so much
Inspire is generally a Urethane based paint, at least the Kandies are. The Gold Kandy and Chrome base you used there only requires a few light coats much like Alclad, that's why the mirror effect went away after you laid on more coats. Chrome is tricky that way and with Chrome and Kandies a little is more, that's why the Gold looks more like a gold Chrome than a Gold Kandy. Urethane over Laquers can have a terrible Krazing effect, that can end up looking great if that's the goal and you play around with it (Most people will use saran wrap trick to that effect). Great video as always love what you do, always a great time. P.S When you think about how large these bottles are and their complete Kandy set is $94 for 10 4oz bottles like you have here. Amazing price for that much paint, I might actually switch over from Alclad which is my go to Chrome and Kandy brand.
Interesting. I don't know if I saw anything that would sway me to add to my current paint list though. I'm very interested to see how the clear 2K looks over chrome test.
Edit - All due respect to Barbatose Rex. Ive learned a lot here but the chrome is being applied too heavy in this video. In my opinion this chrome knocks Alclad off the throne. The mist coats wet out better resulting in a more reflective and consistent finish than alclad. Start with 1 single (no back and forth or one after another) pass of a fine mist coat, stop, dry with hair dryer or air dry, wipe with soft cloth or feather duster followed by 4 or more single pass, mist coats, same as the first, drying and feather dusting between. After the first couple of mist coats it seemed to tolerate heavier mist coats but wasn't necessary. I sprayed this through my Sotar 2020, .15 nozzle at 25psi. The needle stop was set 2.0 numbers out from fully seated. Custom Paints' 2k clear with fast activator over the top resulted in somewhere around a 20% reduction in reflectivity and requires 2 extremely light mist coats to completly dry before laying on a single wet coat.
Good morning. New to Air Brushing you have one of the best knowledgeable format. What is a good setup for painting soft plastic baits for fishing. Also what paints do you recommend
Oh hey this is a blast from the past. They have these Pearl effect paints that I had to hunt down for Unicorn builds. Red and Green pearls were great for the red and green active Psychoframe to let the Psychoframe color “bleed” onto the white parts. When I ordered them, they were mainly a car paint company or that’s all I could find.
Sweet!!! I happen to have an aerosol can of their Gold and Black base I picked up for a project so I am going to buy the chrome and then decant the two aerosol cans :) Edit: Ok, I adore this chrome!!! I had zero problems spraying it and Aclad Clear both the Red and Gold as well as the Jumpwind clears with Mr Color thinner work spectacular over it.
@Barbatos Rex hi, I was hoping you could possibly please tell me if the Inspire H2O acrylic paint is only meant for use with an airbrush or can you paint it onto parts using a normal paintbrush, as I noticed on there website that they had an Acrylic Pearl White paint and I was really wanting to buy.
omg really diggin this gold i knew you if anyone could find a way you could now i have my color for the 71 Monte Carlo dad painted when i was a kid first time the color wasn't what he wanted second time around perfect 😁thanks scooter d😎 ps glad the 2k colors are in stock 🤩
Another great review my friend. I don't bother watching any other airbrush channels, you are the OG. I was wondering if you have sprayed any larger objects with these chrome paints and if so, what brush and needle size did you use? I am building a 3D printed life size R2D2 and want to chrome his dome. I put 1 coat of Duralumen on it, but started getting streaks so I stopped. I was thinking about using an HVLP gun instead? Thanks for all you do man!
I have to be honest here, I've only used the airbrushes recommend, that being a 0.3mm. I havent tried anything bigger than that so I'm not sure how it will play out. I guess you could do it but it will use more paint for sure and that's not cheap but at least Duralumen come in large jars. Sorry that I couldn't help with this but if you do try it please let me know your results.
Awesome video - as a complete noob for games workshop models would you recommend priming before hand then doing the chrome or just straight to chrome? (To achieve that nice gold look) 😊
Ive been watching and rewatching this video since it came out and finally found some in stock! :D🎉 Are there any other products from inspire that you'd recommend?
Can you please spray different 2K clear Coats over this and if it does not work well I wonder if you will have to try the method that others use when using high gloss varnish first and THEN coming over it with a 2k clear coat.
Will you make a video showing how the Inspire paints turn out overall? There doesn't seem to be many videos or resources about this company and paint line.
How do I purchase your paint products ? I'm testors guy from the 60s then model master as soon as they where available. I know there line very well. I fell in love with there buffable and non. Buffable metalized. They have some acrylic paint out I found at hobby lobby last night. When I got home I dug out the paint then opend them both I performed the highest to compare the paint. And test sniff work amazing both paints smelt exactly the same . Model master acrylic paint is in the small time and tested testors bottle.
They're made by Hobby Mio and Spray Gunner but they are currently out of stock. I'm working on making these myself under my Mecha Empire brand because they are always sold out
I first used Inspire about 10 years ago maybe. I tried the water base but I like the solvent base better. They have a lot more colors now, they even have a booth at SEMA. I haven’t tried the chrome or gold tho but I will now.
Hey Barb, just bought the inspire paints for testing. Couple questions, did you use anything to protect the chrome before the candy was applied? if not how long did you let the chrome dry before candy coating it? and did the candy effect the chrome any like did it make the flake visible?
I sprayed the candy right on top of the chrome. I waited a day between chrome and candy. No top coat is really needed as the candy is a clear top coat all it's own but it's safe to top off the candy with a clear if you want
@@barbatosrex9473 thank you Barb, I have been looking for this result but all that I have tried always results in a more flaky look. Going to test it out soon. Also I got you anodized set and freaking love them, started painting two kits with them lolol.
These paints are very impressive results, especially the candy gold. However the price is a bit dear for my limited budget. I would definitely buy them both, if the price was a bit lower. Thank you for all of your videos and tests.
I clicked through the links for the paints. I found the gold candy, but I only see "shadow chrome" in the Inspire line. There's another chrome on the site too, but it doesn't say it's the Inspire line. Can you confirm which chrome is correct?
Very good review as usual. I agree with other reviewers that it is not trash per se..... It appeared to add a texture type to the spoon. In many other types of painting that texture is sought after and, in some cases, hard to achieve. What would the candy red look like over that chrome?
Hi, I'm sure you had a video where you added IPA to gold paint to make it really pop, but I can't find it, do yiu have a link? ( assuming it was actually you)
My O my, I just stumbled across your channel pard' and I must say (to quote you) "...I'm likin' what I'm seein'..." : - ) I'll be checkin' out the rest of your vids real soon BUT, one complaint...I just now went to your kindly provided link to purchase some of your 2k Gloss Black Plus Hardener 2oz Bottle and it's Out Of Stock! Figures. When do you think it will back in stock? I've got a Wonder Woman Gold Winged Armour figure that is just beggin' for that Candy Gold paint treatment your previewing for us in your video.

Yet another enlightening bright colorful paint comparison. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much, finally a gold chrome paint to finish off my Daft Punk helmet. It has been sat on my shelf for a few months.
That clor is so rich, and warm. I like this alot.
Pretty good looking paints. Unrelated topic - I would love to see some of your custom kits!
I was wondering that. And i was gona ask if he had a sencond channel were he shows his painted kits.

I love these paints plus they have some fantastic hologram flakes as well. Custom Paints carriers them.
I love that candy Gold over their Chrome. that testure of the gold over the alclad looks like a vinyl top
the acrylic line looks nice. Do not forget to use the airbrush as it is supposed to, it is a double action 😅

It has to have a Gloss black base for the chrome to go on. So I would call the Gloss Black the primer
