The Old Grey Whistle Test (sometimes abbreviated to Whistle Test or OGWT) is a British television music show. The show was devised by BBC producer Rowan Ayers, commissioned by David Attenborough[and aired on BBC2 from 1971 to 1988. It took over the BBC2 late-night slot from Disco 2, which ran between September 1970 and July 1971, while continuing to feature non-chart music. n.
According to presenter Bob Harris, the programme derived its name from a Tin Pan Alley phrase from years before. When they got the first pressing of a record they would play it to people they called the old greys - doormen in grey suits. Any song the doormen could remember and whistle, having heard it just once or twice, had passed the old grey whistle test.

In terms of complexity, regarding musical structure organized around pitch, duration of notes, timing, and change of direction creating suspense, momentum, and deep attention grabbing texture, Mr. Numan is the most underrated Pop artist in the last 50 years.

I saw Gary Numan back in the 70s in a small venue in Pittsburgh. The blank stair he had on his face with his dark eyes was mezmerizing. The whole concert he looked like at any moment he was going to reach out and rip your heart right out of your throat. One of he best concerts I have ever seen. And I hae been to many concerts.

Ive been a fan of Gary and his music since I was 11, i always wanted to meet him however after my encounter with Gordy White aka Twiggy (his spooky kid groupie name was Gordy) of Marilyn Manson , I was struck aside and afraid to approch any of my heros. Then when I was a stage manager for a stage show for kids, Gary and his family came in, he was humble, down to Earth and genuinly appreciative of me being a fan. Like him I live with Autism and we had an hour long conversation about it before the show started. He restored my faith in humanity that heros dont often forget who put them there and are appreciateve of them.

David Bowie got all upset about this. The press praised it as "Numan does Bowie, but better"...and he did. This had so much more atmosphere than what David did on Low and Heroes. Those Bowie albums were good, but the synth stuff was rather boring. I was 15 when I first heard Replicas and it blew my mind. Pleasure Principal was also excellent. Telekon was good but a bit of a step down. After that, Numan ventured into the tick-tock jazzy dance music that just fell flat. A few good songs here and there from '82-'85, but not much. His first album is quite good as well..."punk" new wave.
