Hello I have been enjoying learning so much on the screenplay profession watching your channel. My questions regarding the software is so if i sign up and buy the software is the workbook included? My last question is once my scripts are formatted for you to review, what would be your charge fee?

I do intend to check out your course, but I have a system that is working quite well. I use Word and, using the specifications from the book The Hollywood Standard, I created a template that, near as I can tell, looks exactly like actual scripts (especially once converted to a PDF) other than using New Courier instead of Courier (I intend to either fix that if I use it for the final product or not worry about it if I port the script elsewhere).
Is there a problem using a problem using a properly formatted Word document?

If you can go through the script and make sure it's not cutting things off at the bottom of the page and no scene headings are dangling on the end of a page it would be fine, but that's SO much work. Doesn't make sense when I can put you on a free program that will remember character names as you type -- that alone is such a time and energy saver.

I have had people familiar with Final Draft take it, but it's really specific to this program so I don't think you would get as much out of it and still have to figure out how to use FD.

OMG!! FINAL DRAFT 10 HAS ISSUES!!!
Today, TWICE, I saved my progress after my writing sessions. At the very least, I saved multiple times during my second session. I had worked for hours in both instances. However, absolutely NOTHING was different when I reopened the document than it was when I started writing.
How is this possible? I've used the software for a couple of months. No problems at all. But now, at page 34 into my script, apparently the document has become "too big" to be able to save the progress.
This is really frustrating! I am not at all motivated to write until I can get assurance that this issue won't take place again in the future. I'm using FD 10, by the way...
Now, let's see how helpful support is at "Final Draft corp." Complaint delivered.

@@worddancer-howtowriteascre9144 That's certainly on the table!
The software you're talking about, does it have the same basic functionality as Final Draft, such as writing transitions (e.g. Fade, Cut and so on). Would I be able to transfer my current work to this software, or would it have to be written from start again?
And you are sure that I can save without any trouble? :)
I have no idea what other explanation there could be beyond malfunctioning software, but I do know I've organized a lot of files in multiple levels of subfolders. But hard to understand that a few kbs more on a document would make the "mother folder" too big. And for the particular subfolder where I stored the doc, there were only three docs in total.

I can't guarantee against internet glitches or other technical problems, but you can import your script without retyping and have transitions, fade out, etc.

    • @stiankallhovd7041
      @stiankallhovd7041 5 лет назад +1

@@worddancer-howtowriteascre9144 By the way, I have a question related to formatting...
I remember you once criticizing the use of "Fade In" in screenplays. I agree that it is silly to make it a formality, but I also think it could have some advantages.
I am currently working on a drama, and the script opens with a melancholic scene that is supposed to make the audience anticipate an upcoming event. The opening scene takes place a few years after the story begins.
Now, in this instance, I think "Fade In" works well because, at least to me, it provides an image of darkness, in which the movie scene brightens up gradually. So I think it serves a dramatic purpose in this case.
So what are your thoughts? Are you absolutely against using "Fade In", or do you think it could sometimes serve a purpose? Is it a deal-breaker if a script starts with "Fade In"?
      Sincerely,
      Stian
