I really like when you showed the words as they would/should appear in the screenplay, but during an actual scene. VERY helpful.

Being relatively new to this, I have to say, this is one of the most informative, succinct and concise screenwriting videos I've seen. The last few videos I watched on the basics of screenwriting made me feel like a caveman in a calculus class. It's definitely going in my "favorites" library.
How have you progressed over the past 7 months? Any awesome stories to tell us?
Please tell your audience (us) about how you progressed all through 1 year. :D
Yeah I want to hear how the screenplay is going now too. What’s your plot OP?
Any news on the scripts you've been writing? I'd like to know all about it!
He's gone underground
I have a script due in a few days for school. Only 5-7 pages, however no matter how much I have read I couldn’t grasp even the concept of writing. Brain kind of sucks that way, but your video here has helped TREMENDOUSLY. Thank you so much for such a well put together, forward, and informative video.
My script was finished in an hour after polishing (I did have a “vomit draft” prepared)
Thank you for taking a weight off my shoulders, thank you for having the ability to teach someone like myself. Happily subscribed
Thank you! This is really helpful with all the examples you included.
Good luck with your next screenplay Milutin!
This is a very well done video, however, I would add that as screenwriters you should never include camera shots/angles in the screenplay unless you are also directing the project. Leave camera descriptions up to the vision of the director, as he/she will figure out what goes in the shooting script.
Oh, okay!
For me if I am the director writing the screenplay (like for my current project), I usually do the shots at the same time I create the action.
But this is great info! Thanks!
@@lukethekuya Same thing here
I always have to tell myself this when writing a screenplay. i’m a perfectionist.
Well jokes on you I am the writer /director/ everything else lol
Unless it is something unique and specific that you think will add depth to the scene. As a general rule though you're right, imply by your writing where the camera will be focused on.
Dude this is one of the best tutorial videos on any subject on RUclips. Straightforward with plenty of visual examples. THANK YOU!!!
I tried to write my first screenplay when I was a teenager but it didn't go over too well but this has inspired me to get back into the groove of things. Mind you, I've been writing a lot lately but I really want to go down the screenplay route.
This is perhaps the most informative six minute video I have ever seen
I'm currently in college as a film student and I've been super eager to write and direct my own screenplay. I just haven't known where to start with writing the script. Thanks for this insight! I'm gonna save it for future reference.
How’s the film going?
I am absolutely floored at how simple you made script formatting, this video is extremely well done. Thank you so much for breaking it down so well!
5:28 - "One Page = One Minute of Screentime" is just a theoretical rule, and is mostly not true practically. It helps you to gauge how long your movie would be, based on the number of your pages, but the final movie always turns out more or less than that, very rarely is it accurate.
Sometimes, even a minute of screentime can be so descriptive with both dialogue and action that it can take up the space of more than one page. And, sometimes that minute could even be really brief on paper, e.g. you just write how a fight will start, how they will struggle, and how it will end, which might just take three paragraphs on paper, while it can extend to even two minutes on screen.
Yeah, there's an example of this in season 2 of The Mandalorian. Robert Rodriguez turned half a page of an action scene into around 10 minutes of screentime. He felt like it was supposed to be a long scene, but the script didn't really have much detail, so he stretched out what was written, which, according to this rule, should've only been 30 seconds long. It's a general rule to follow, but like anything else in filmmaking, it's important to know that sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.
@@thatoneguy7709 Hmm, absolutely right.
Dude are are my hero. Thank you for this!
We're simply people helping people.👍 Thank you for watching!
i thought this would be a basic format video, yall literally went over every technique and showed visuals. i love studiobinder. the only corporate like entity on YT that teaches me as much as individuals/smaller channels like thomas flight, filmento , hi top films. microbudget indie film podcast etc
For reals, this video has helped me more with certain elements of writing a script, than the 4+ years and numerous screenwriting classes I took in Film School.
Which film school did you go to..bro .?
Everything in the video is so detailed and thorough, it's much easier to understand than a lot of others I've watched, the use of examples and the text for them also adds another layer of understanding!
I love the fact that the examples correlates with the visual scene.
Thank you so much, you have given me the courage to begin❤
I am in my first year of Ba journalism and mass communication and just want you to know this video was incredibly useful
You explained this really well, thank you.
This was fantastic. Thank you. I’m reading the Terminator script and am halfway through Event Horizon trying to get into the headspace and absorb everything and this helped so much. Cheers to everyone writing. I stopped drinking recently and things are coming easier than before.
I come back to this constantly... it is my guide book
I've been writing for some years now, and this video is a great reminder (giving notes) as teaching me new ways to elevate my stories. I'll be able to read older screenplays or current ones (through revisions) to add these touches. Thank you so much!!!
Precise and excellent. Thank you very much
Best video on screen writing I've seen. The most useful real world explanation. and most of all it's not 30 minutes long with a bunch of back story that I didn't come here for. Thank you for being informative and to the point. A lot of videos on this topic miss the point of actually explaining the format and get to caught up in film theory.
Very helpful video, y'all are creating new filmmakers every day with your wonderfully informative tutorials. Keep up the good work lads!
found this video will i was writing a short script cause i was bored then showed it to my teacher and now she uses it in classes to teach other people how to format, very helpful video
If you are finding an easiest way to learn to format a screenplay? This video is a must watch, 10000% recommended!
Maaann, thats the better and most informative video of script that i ever see on youtube, Thanks a lot

This is so helpful! I’m rewriting a script for my interpretation on the Star Wars sequel trilogy. No point in doing it besides just a passion project.
This channel is very good & helpful for me and many people who loves cinematography. I haven't found a better channel than this on RUclips.
Totally agree with others that this is succinct and well done!
Thank you very much for this outstanding video. Detailed study on screenplay format. most helpful video ever.
Great video, remind me to thank you after I win the Oscar for best original screenplay in 20 years
Most helpful for a political and theatre writer, writing his first screenplay. Can't thank you enough for this video
Loved it, Saw it just before my script exam. Excellent!
You guys are going to put film schools out of business! Thanks for this! So helpful!
Good explanation, this is what I'm looking.
This is extremely helpful! You are amazing! Thank you :)
Glad you enjoyed the video, what should we cover next?
Im writing a screen play with little to no dialoge and most of it is just actions, it feels like I am writing more of a book than a screen play. It would be helpful to know proper ways to do that. So many writers do it differently. I know there is probably not a one way to do it but there might be a more professional way and I would love to know it.
@@watchdogman9956 Probably a little late, but I'd recommend reading Chad St John's script Motor City.
@@andrewcurtis4907 probably a little late, where do i read it? is it on the internet?
@@cytusrayark4742 Probably. But I can send you a copy
You sir are a true man of the people, a true blue Australian hero. We will love you forever in our hearts and minds.
God Speed Sir
Thank you so much for the video. Informative and helpful with clear examples. I learned more in this 7 minute video about formatting a screenplay than I did in my university course this semester. This is really gonna help me with my final.
Glad we could help!

Like what everyone else has said, INCREDIBLE video here - thank you so much!
This is my very first introduction to screenwriting, so I have a question. For the Spider-Man example, where it is mentioned to "capitalize character names the first time they appear," how come Peter is referenced by first name but Harry Osborn is referenced by last name? In journalism, I've always followed first names for people you know and last names for people you don't, but this is a screenplay.
Appreciate the help here!!
Incredibly useful, perfect pacing.
Thank you so much man this helps a lot
Thanks for the details I need to know everything
