I love Fender. They are knocking it out the park.
That strat is sick
I know... it's making all these growly, fuzzy noises. It should really go to a guitar doctor.
My first good amp was a ‘62 brown Princeton that I bought from my next door neighbour for $50.00 in 1968. I put a 12” Heppner(Cerwin-Vega-Vega) speaker in it.
Love you demos, John! Well done and what a great sounding amp. Stellar playing, as always.
I recently purchased the 65 Blackface Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue and I am Shockingly Impressed. It Sounds Phenomenal. I can now get that S.R.V. Riviera Paradise ( out-of-this-world) Guitar Tone from the heavens. Fender Chime, Dripping Reverb, Throbbing Tremolo & Portable - what more can you ask for ?
"The give-a-shit level is high." Love it.
Bro soon as I heard that damn tremolo I lost it! Beautifulness
Love that amp! and John, you're a great presenter, thanks man!
That's sweet brother! Well done and thanks for sharing John!
I got lucky today, picked up a new one in my favorite music store. Didn't have to wait for one from Fender.
Still waiting for Fender to do a 62 Brown Deluxe Reissue!!
Excellent demo, beautiful sounding amp, stellar playing!!!
The light crunch with the Strat and the vibe... wow....
I hope Fender makes a mass produced version of this amp , I love this amp and I prefer the tremolo feature over reverb . You get your reverb for free when you play it at a live gig or record it in a studio. Absolutely gorgeous sounding amp.
Fender should make it a permanent part of thier production lineup
Joe Blow especially since the tremolo in this is like the sweetest tremolo I’ve ever heard and unique to this amp 🙏
De Oppresso Libtard but no blackface does this. I own this amp, I’m no expert. I’m sure you’re right. But I’ve just heard that people say it’s unique to brownface amps. I’ve tried many black faces and silverface Fender amps, none of them have a tremolo like this. This is by far the sweetest tremolo I’ve ever heard. But there’s supposed to be a pedal coming out that can finally replicate it. I forget by who now. But again I’m no expert on this stuff. Chris Stapleton also said it’s unique to the brownface era amps. So I’m just repeating what others have said and what I’ve experienced. Cheers
De Oppresso Libtard hey just wanna say thanks man! This is super interesting 🧐 I’ll get back to you a bit later properly soon 🙏 and check out your link
I love that you stand while playing. You living room rocker! We should all do that. :D
John is a great player and source of knowledge...Would love to see him play live in his own band...🎸🎸🎸🎵🎶🎼🔊👍
Great to see brown amps back in the fold! Marvellous
I played an original '62 Fender Princeton amp in a vintage music store many years ago and never forgot how good that amp sounded with an original MXR Phase 90 pedal. It had nice spank and edge with plenty of tone. I am glad Fender reissued it. It is a really cool amp.
I recently played a 1962 Concert amp with harmonic tremolo, which is phasey-sounding. Just... wow. Great amp and I wish I could afford it!
So nostalgic.
Sounds fantastic. Nice to see the brown era amps get some love. I had a brown 410 concert. Damn I wish I kept that amp.
I still have mine…. with the original jensons. nice amp.
Always impressed with John's playing.
"Starting to get kinda angry" Loved that description, a Rectifier must be a really mad amp :p
This amp was supplied to me at a gig and so far has been my favorite outside the Vox family
Sounded great with the Gretsch! A reverb pedal in front of this would be the ultimate simple setup.
Love the telly with the bender
great video, thanks for posting!
What a great video. That Tele was beautiful through it. Top drawer ampage.
I don’t think I’ve ever wanted an amp this much
Glorious intro tones
Fender is kicking ass! Especially with this amp! Would love to see this same exact amp with fenders reverb instead of the tremolo. Would buy in a heartbeat
just buy a fender reverb unit reissue. that way you can turn any non fender reverb amp into a reverb amp
always a nice reminder that John is a better guitarist than essentially everyone he interviews for Rig Rundown.
Yes, he is excellent.
He’s good !
I chose 2x10in over 1x12. I have a Fender tube with this configuration, and it's just so nice to hear a full sound with a good headroom, but with a "clean" bass response.
I’ve got the Sweetwater special edition of the ‘65:Princeton Reverb with a 12” speaker. Might not be quite as nice as the ‘62 reissue, but it’s a great amp, and I’m really happy with it.
Bohlinger a rockin
That opening riff though...come on dude. Just sick.
I liked this amp with the Tele and the Gretsch! Funsies. Ha.
Big Stapleton fan, and that amp sounds like a proper tribute! Also, whatever that Gibson model is, it looks and sounds righteous…
Looks like a Gibson Vegas. Only made for a couple of years back in the 80s. A buddy owns one and loves it. I’ve played it a couple times and it’s great rockin’ guitar.
taranis1964 cool - thanks!
One of the best amp i heard in a long time!
Gold man!
What about come Mick Taylor style slide? 😎🎸🎸
Sound from a solid pine cabs fills the room better than sound from plywood cabinetry , which makes the sound more directional .
Onboard reverb come to be when Fender went to the plywood cabinets .
Curious about what John's got in the back there.... Brown fender amp w/silver face control panel??
Thank you
seems like that tone really needs some reverb. great vid, though. thanks
size queen I agree
sounds great like this
You could also use a nice reverb pedal I like do with this amazing amp
I believe Chris Stapleton himself runs a reverb pedal in front of the amp
the reverb circuit sucks the tone - keep it out and just use a pedal (wampler - ethereal) and you're there
I want one. I'm going to buy one.
Good stuff.
And with the Gretsch and the volume dimed it gets pretty close to Pete's Won't Get Fooled Again Gretsch/'59 Fender Bandmaster tone on the album.
Gotta say and i didnt think i would....its kick ass
Sounds incredible! Love the tennessee whiskey rendition!
I’d rather go blind??
I read bad comments about this amp on the relevant PM review page. It won't be identical to the actual vintage thing, but it DOES sound rich and full to me ... and way better than most Fender amps around with the other good one, in my opinion, being the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb.
I just bought a 68 deluxe reverb that they made in Mexico and the foot switch socket is loose and doesn’t work. I wish I would have bought one if those instead. I have to turn it up crazy loud to get any kind of break up. And I’m playing it at home mostly. I guess I’m going to have to work some OT and sneak it in the house when my wife is at work.
J.B. that INTRO is the BEST you've ever sounded! By MILES... and you normally sound real good. So tasteful..... Ron Wood had a go at that too with the Faces. what style would you call that Memphis country Soul style? I've forever looked for lessons and tutorials online...maybe I cant find a label for that style? Any suggestions?
I'm hoping to try one of these soon. Anyone know what the speaker sensitivity rating is?
I thought I was the only one who commented on the Etta James - I'd Rather Go Blind Cover! Funny Shit - Great job as usual
Me too!!
I'd rather go blind.....such a great tune
It sounds especially good with my 66 Jazzmaster and my Ibanez JSM 100(pure Larry Carlton “The Nightfly” tone)
Where did you find the Howard Finster art?
My only concern is lack of headroom. You might need a little more clean and volume don’t you think? Has anyone considered comparing it to a fender amp with a few more watts and a distortion pedal?
Its speaker is massive and powerful. I changed it to a Jensen Blackbird 40 (alnico), lighter in weight and rounded in tone, I prefer it over the stock Eminence.
Fender did change the Tremolo with the AB763 circuits but the Princetons and vibrochamps remained bias wiggle (VC's wiggle the preamp tubes). Unless you would miss the boxy mids offered with the 6- series (Brownface) line (which to me sound like blackfaces with a blanket thrown over them) a MUCH better option is to get the normal everyday blackface (better yet go vintage and get an early silver face model- THE best value for the best amps ever made) and you will have the same swampy bias wiggle tremolo and And AND... that lush reverb pan sitting inside.
Admittedly, if you play in a band setting these are great (those very same "boxy mids" really cut through the mix)
@john bohlinger That is Fender's harmonic tremolo, one of the hallmarks of their brownface amps.
Robstafarian it’s tube bias not harmonic I was hoping it was at first
Sounds awesome JB!!! The amp is very cool, But its not the amp its the Man!! Still I want one!!
I don't need a new amp.I don't need a new amp,I don't need a new amp.........OK, I do need a new amp. Thanks John....LOL
C5 or CS speaker..... I love it. CS is for Chris Stapleton edition custom made speaker. It is a copy of the speaker in his vintage amp he plays. This is a killer amp and a great price for all the materials used and hand point to point wired. If you want to spend half the money buy something made out of China. When it breaks throw it out and then buy a real amp that can be serviced and sound good too.
Is it 2 grand good? I can buy about any amp I want with that budget
does it havwe to get to super volumes to get that crunch?
Great amp...love fender tube stuff...
People need to know more that the new Stapleton music...please educate yourself...look for Steeldrivers or the Jompson brothers...
Again Fender does amazing Tremolo and there reverbs are the standard issue...
These amplifiers are similar to a Fender 57 Tweed vibrolux….Keith at Five Watt World just released a video on the Chris Stapleton Brown Princeton and he compares the F511 Vibrolux and The Brown Princeton
I've heard this. so it's essentially a Harvard with tremolo
Tele all the way. An excellent amp.
When will we see John Bohlinger and Mark Agnesi in the same room?
never because mark agnesi is a schmuck whereas John is a nice and genuine person
We are all selling something.
Chris Stapleton rig rundown???
Is that a pedal friendly amp or not?
What is the chord at 4:50? I’ve seen it so many times but can’t find the right name.
Great recreation of a classic Fender amp sound. Reduce it by half the price and they would have a 6 month backlog on orders!
Fu**ing noice mate
The tremolo on these amps are power tube biased as apposed to working off a preamp tube. I don't know if that was a Chris Stapleton thing or a regular production fender thing .
Is that a Gibson Vegas with a Floyd in the background? :D :D Who the hell came up with that?
IT is a Vegas.. but I have a Stetsbar on it. Really dig it.
Timothy Olyphant and Steve-O had a baby. An old, old baby.
Thank you John, nice demo!
I think it can be a harmonic trem...
however, it sounds great.
Great video, but where is Chris Kies? I miss the banter.
Nice! WooF!!
What's that green axe???
the great grey noodler
Straight into the amp is the best way... Pedals have thier place. But knowing your amp is better. Just my opinion.
That's what Keef says as well. His fingers and amp(s) creates his tone. He used the fuzz on satisfaction, and an echoplex, but that's about it👍🎸
Is that a Gibson Vegas?!
it is...
Great demo John but the one i tried in store sounded muddy and muffled.
"old and farty" could have described my Granddad. 🤣
Hearing more of this amp in the various YT videos makes me want one all the more.
Sounds good. But I'm thinking this amp may be kick ass for harp players!
So Google algorithm got you to that video too
I see a guitar with a Stetsbar!
Who needs pedals with that kind of tone?
Ya its ettas but ur right john its a good cover...in that zepplin tradition of changing a few lyrics n licks. He got a lot of milage out of this legendary vamp
Is this a bias trem
I know everyone says a Shure SM57 is a classic guitar recorded sound. I have always found it way to bitey and harsh. Is that speaker distortion I'm hearing? Its just sounds raspy in spots. Try an Audix i5.
"I have never found a good use of an SM57" - Steve Albini.
"funsies"
Do yourself a favor get a Fender blackface Vibro champ or Silverface install a 6L6 tube put a good 10" or 12" Speaker and it'll be even better
Tremolo is a little fast chris sets his at Intensity at 10 and speed at 0-1
John can play 100x better than I could on his worse day, but his timing always seem kinda "off" to me....
Yep.
Too much $$$$$
less speed, less depth ..... great playing .... gotta have reverb tho, IMHO
No on board spring reverb is a deal killer.
Killer amp, but for the price you can get an original 62 brownface for that.
james perry you could, if you could find one
