    If you use a small torch to heat the clutch up a little they come off pretty easy.

    I just acquired the Poulan 306a, it seems to be in great condition, however, the chain spins without pulling the trigger, what would be causing that?

    I picked up one and it has a crack in the oil tank under the bar adjusting screw/peg. it looks like the bar was tightened with the peg not in its hole which was pushed in. should I use JB weld or just RTV silicone? its a big hair line crack. didn't see it before buying it. thanks.

  • @patthesoundguy
    @patthesoundguy 2 года назад

    That saw really looked like it had some decent torque though. You could put some black hi temp RTV on that plug wire to fix it up, that would resist the heat fairly well. That saw looks like it's screaming "Port Me!" 😁

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  2 года назад +1

      Ooh...the RTV is a GREAT idea! I'll have to remember that. However, I already ordered some heat resistant electrical tape. I actually got it running pretty dang good, slapped a 24" bar with a nice sharp chain on it...runs great! Not a very zippy saw, but it really just pulls chain! I seriously had fun using it. That video will be posted on Thursday.

    Boedy, do you still have the parts saw around? I could really use that one. Just pick up a Wizard 430 and have no idea what it will be. Well...terrible...after taking it apart...I learned that it is the same saw as the Poulan 306A. Looking forward to hear what you have if any. BTW - I've been watching over and over and over and over again your work (growth in learning) with the Hus 55 rancher...I just starting learning about saw for few months....and your struggles are both affirmation and learning for me....thank you for sharing.

    Can you show how to replace the sparkplug wire? I have a Poulan 360 that has that problem. If not, its fine. I'd just like to see someone do it. At first glance it seems like it would be hard to change because of the way the coil is made. I still have some cleaning to do on it that may reveal an easyer way. Idk 🤔

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  2 года назад

      I'm just gonna use heat resistant electrical tape on it. Easy peasy.

    I have one I'm resurrecting, was my dad's. Hopefully this is an easy question, the specs I find online recommend a 32:1 mix with the poulan brand 2 stroke oil but the poulan stuff I see for sale now recommends 40:1 or 50:1 mix. Is this the same stuff they originally intended for use in this saw? Or what do you recommend?
    Thanks

    • @novicelumberjack
      @novicelumberjack  Год назад

      It is less critical than you think it is. Run what you want. I run either red armor or castor 927 at 40:1 because I like it and it works. And that's it. The only oil I have ever seen a real problem with is the Stihl Ultra. The stuff in the gray bottle.

    • @jonnysnipes3123
      @jonnysnipes3123 Год назад

      Oils today are synthetic so you could run 50:1 of todays oils in that old saw and it’ll be fine. It only states 32:1 on that saw because they didn’t have oil designed for 2 strokes back then. You basically used regular engine oil in a heavier grade to ensure it doesn’t break down prematurely before it reaches the bearings in your engine that need the most lubrication. But the other reason it also states 32:1 is because nobody gave a shit about pollution back then like they do now. Now the environmental pollution department is phasing 2 strokes out or at least demanding them to run extremely light as shit on oil

    • @novicelumberjack

      Never used one myself. From what I gather, they were almost exclusively used to cut logs up that were laying on the ground so you didn't have to bend over.
