    I used my A-maze-N 12" smoker tube for jerky yesterday for the first time. It worked flawlessly! Highly recommend a smoker tube. I have a Traeger 780 that does not have the "super smoker" mode so I bought the smoker tube. I will add a couple comments from my rookie experience. 1. I filled the 12" tube completely full, didn't try to pack it or anything, just filled it. After 5 hours the smoker tube was still going, and my jerky was done, so I dumped out the tube to save the unburned pellets. I was using Pit Boss hickory pellets by the way. Another side note, I let the smoker tube do its magic for about 2 hours before I fired up the Traeger. The smoker tube box says the 12" tube will last for 4 hours, I swear mine would have gone 6 if I'd let it keep going. I guess it is an Amazing A-maze-N smoker tube! 2. In all the videos I've watched I've heard a few people mention the possibility of a bitter taste from too much smoke, and I just couldn't wrap my head around that concept, that is until I experienced it. So I let the smoker tube work for a couple hours, then fired up the Traeger for a couple hours and those pieces of jerky that were still not quite done were left in the Traeger while I pulled the majority of the jerky out, and turned the Traeger off. I had some pieces that were directly above the smoker tube, and when I could tell all the jerky was done I decided to taste that special piece of jerky that had been right above the smoker tube. WOW! Was it ever smoky! I mean waaaaay too smoky, as in licking a hickory smoke ashtray smoky. So just a word of caution, it is possible to add too much smoky goodness to your food. But that mistake was mine, not the smoker tube or the Traeger. Good luck to all of you and happy smoker tube smoking!

    • @-.Steven
      @-.Steven Год назад

      One more note from the smoker tube rookie, the tube gets hot from the burning pellets and I placed jerky quite close to the smoker tube, DON'T DO THAT! Leave some space between the tube and the item you're smoking. The heat from the smoker tube was enough to turn the jerky black. Be careful, just give the tube some space.

    I didn't have a heat gun or a blow torch and too cheap to buy one. I just got 4 kingsford charcoal briquets and put them on my weber ash pan and lit them up. Let them get nice and white and got some metal tongs and put one white coal into the wide mouth in the smoking tube. It fit perfectly. Let it sit in the tube for about 10 mins and the pellets caught. I did blow on the tube just a little bit but it worked! I will say not to fill the tube all the way to the top as when you lay it down its possible for your coal to fall out. This was the 1st time I used this thing and worked great. It gave me 6 good hours of straight smoke.

    I love this thing. The issue I have with my Traeger when using 100% flavor wood is temperature consistency. With this baby I can still use 100% flavor wood in the tube, and then use something like BBQer’s Delight in the hopper that has more oak for consistency, and I can still get great smoke with better temperature regulation. Awesome product.

      The real problem with the smoker going out is moisture in the pellets. It’s a 5 min fix to cure that problem.
      Fill either a tubular or serpentine smoke generator with pellets, then dump into a microwave safe bowl. Microwave the pellets for a couple of minutes until the pellets are hot and steaming. Quite a bit of the absorbed moisture will be driven out. Dump the drier pellets back into the smoke generator and proceed as usual. I’ve never had a smoke generator die after microwaving the pellets.

      lixsajoe The Traeger is still an excellent wood fired grill. With or without using the tube, my results are excellent so I can’t complain. There are so many “pellet grills” these days, if I was buying one new, I would certainly explore all options.

      @lixsajoe 5 лет назад +1

      Mike Smith you’re right the traeger is an excellent wood pellet grill. It definitely helped step up my bbq game. My only complaint is the amount of smoke that comes out when you’re on the smoke setting. I get the smoke rings on my tri tip and brisket the way I like. I think I’ll try this and see if it adds a thicker smoke ring and more flavor.

    If you place the tube under the thermo sensing rod as you did...
    You will influence the temperature of the grill and the associated auger feed.
    In other words....place it along the back or front to allow the smoke to circulate with influencing the temperature sensor.
    😎

    • @sacsmitty
      @sacsmitty  4 года назад +1

      Windy Knot I see your point but I’ve asked the question many times to Traeger and been told numerous times that the auger speed is based on timing, not temp. Additionally, the smoke tube generates very little heat, it’s more of a smolder that creates the smoke, not an open flame. I typically put it towards the back of the chamber though, not where I put it in this video, just wanted it to be more visible for the video.
