East Coast Greenway | 2023 New Designations

Across another record-setting year throughout the East Coast Greenway corridor, 13 safe, traffic-free segments, many creating key connections to existing trails, were officially designated as part of the Greenway route. Five states, plus Washington, D.C., added at least one new segment in 2023. Massachusetts led the way with five designations, followed by Florida with three. 9. Metropolitan Branch Trail, 8th Street NE Cycle Track & Sidewalk, DC
10. Maine Avenue SW Cycle Track & Sidewalk, DC
11. Jarboe Park, FL
12. Cape Canaveral Trail, FL
13. Boca Raton A1A Sidepath, FL

Wasn't the Mount Vernon Memorial Highway Trail (VA) also designated in 2023?

Thanks for asking! We are very proud that the new Mount Vernon Memorial Highway Trail is now a part of the East Coast Greenway and completes the Greenway in Fairfax County and incredibly appreciate of Fairfax County and advocates in Fairfax and Northern Virginia for making this project happen!
Our designation process requires a letter of support from the agency who controls the right-of-way, in this case that is the Virginia Department of Transportation. While VDOT is supportive of many projects along the Greenway in Virginia (completed projects, as well as ones currently in planning), they generally do not submit formal designation support letters to the Alliance.
