Fords attempt to make this car was a failure, will be fail to get this car running for the firs time in 30 plus years? Will it drive for the first time in years? Can the OGs of RevStoration crew bring this Edsel back to the road? All these questions answered on this episode of RevStoration.

The Edsel deserves a total restoration!!!!
new paint, redo the interior , a total makeover!!!
When I was a kid, I remember my uncle buying a brand new Black Edsel 4 door like the one you have there, with gold interior. That car was a beauty from what I recall. Glad you and the old man are saving this one. He is such a hard worker.
I would call my father my friend never old man great job you restoring this car😊
Hi, Rev I drove a '58 Edsel 2dr sedan as a taxi back in home of Trinidad & Tobago in 1967 to 1969. I mostly drove airport run. It was a very good car. I'm glad that you have recover from the car accident. Please give my best to you, The Ole Man and the family. Cheers!
Love it! My grandparents had a ‘58 Edsel and was a good reliable vehicle for them, for many years as I recall….
It’s a Ford after all….😉
The design is pretty much like a 57, 58 and 59 Ford Galaxy and Mercury Monteray, just the front end and rear taillights are completely different in looks. Same car, just different styling features in the front and rear, that's all.
Hey Rev, I’m sure you already know this , but your dad is a treasure, I love seeing you spend this quality time with him. Your videos are the definition of ,some day we will all realize that all those “little things really were the big things”
Amen, I am truly blessed. We have always enjoyed one another's company.
@@RevStoration You two, just for the fun of it, outta fix this one up if the body isn't to bad, sand it down and give it a really beautiful looking paint job. I never thought the Edsels were all that bad looking cars. They sure are better looking than the ones coming off of Detroits assembly lines of today.
Rev and old man people can't find cars like that anymore it's nice to see u guys got it running good
Edsels were made for 3 years 58, 59, 60, and were built on the Ford assembly line right along side the Ford cars which shared the same bodies as the Edsels which had different front clips and tail ends and trim and engines. This caused the guys working on the assembly line to outright hate the Edsels and many Edsels were sabotaged by the ones putting them together. Edsel was Henry Fords only son. Edsel named his son Henry Ford II and this was who wanted the car to be named Edsel in honor of his father who was a truly amazing car designer
Edsel designed some great ford cars from the 1930's on.
great father/son bonding time you will always remember!!
Thanks for posting this! I love to see old, abandoned cars and trucks brought back to life.
Rev that is when they made cars out of metal beautiful old cars my uncle had the big block engine thanks for sharing it brings back great memories. 👍
I had a friend in high school and his dad used to restore old cars and one of my favorite cars he did was a Edsel it was gorgeous. It was white with red leather interior & it was beautiful when he finally finished. Took him a long time. He did a rotisserie restoration on everything the engine the frame body it looked better than the day it was brand new. He did museum quality restorations on cars
White with red interior, interesting. One other fellow said his uncle had a black one with gold interior. Imangine what that would look like. Bet ya beautiful looking! These Edsels really weren't that bad looking of a car, I kinda like them.
Wow. Good one . Even had me scratching my head.. lol. Love the determination. Hilarious too.!!. 😂😂😂😂thanks for the laughs and information!
I had a 58 Edsel Ranger 2 door with a v8 and a 58 Edsel 2 door wagon years ago. Last year I sold a great running 59 Edsel 2 door Pacer with that six cylinder. Then I bought a 59 Edsel 4 door wagon with the 361v8. Got it running this summer.
All of the old Ford rigs have that style starter and they all get their door latching internals gummed up so the don’t work. Gotta remove the door panels to get at it to clean and lube up.
Good luck with that. I’ve got a 58 Ford retractable hard top and a 58 Ford wagon plus 11 Thunderbirds, 1956~2003. Come on up here to Alaska and buy em!
There was a 59 Edsel that sat in a pasture about 8 miles from me that sat there for years up until about 2 months ago! Someone finally got the thing!
Hopefully it's being restored.
The Edsel didn't use a lot of Ford parts, it WAS a Ford. Edsel was Henry's son. The V8 engines were the only "new" thing they came up with. The "FE" block engines were the Ford, Edsel. A block design they came up with for the Edsel. Later became famous as the 352 and later, much more famous as the 390. That 6 was likely the exact same engine my dad had in his Ford wagon.
What size is that six?
@@williamslater-o5b 223?
My first car was a 58 Edsel Ranger at age 17. Paid 450.00 for it. 48,000 miles. Love the look of the 58
Love seeing classics like that brought back to life. Y'all did a great job, and looked like y'all had fun doing it. Especially your old man!
One fellow had already said that his Uncle bought one of these back in 1959 and that it was black with gold interior. I'll bet it was a really beautiful car.
Fun car. You guys always look like you're having a great time. Ford made Edsel's in 1958, 1959 and 1960. Keep 'em Up-N-Runnin!!!
Right on!
Edsel is the ugliest car I've ever seen lol
Where is dragon
@@tommygray1763 Better looking than these ugly 4 door station wagon trucks and SUV's car companies are all selling today! I hate 4 door station wagon trucks and SUV'S.
OMG! Yall actually got that thing to run. I am super impressed.
I love the interiors especially the dashboards on old cars. Back when car companies took pride in their designs.
I love it, I needed this today, great job!!!!!
I was 8 years ago when they parked that Edsel.
It was a fight but y’all got it. She’s definitely deserves a oil and filter change. Tell the ole man nice job trimming the bushes. May Y’all have a Blessed One David. I really enjoyed this it deserves to run again. Looking forward to seeing the brakes get fixed.
By the way my oldest sister Graduated in 73 like the ole man.
Deuces.
Good grief, an Edsel!!! I used to make fun of them when I was, 4 years old....Cool cars, now that I look at them. I believe they had air ride too...
Howard, I am glad you like them!
As an Edsel owner and enthusiast, I'm ecstatic that the Old Man found this and you did this episode! Any chance we could get a better shot of the data plate?
There's a guy named Phil Skinner in SoCal who would like all of the info on the data plate....
@@Dave31452 I know Phil well. Wondering if this is a "known" car.
I never thought that the Edsel wasn't all that bad looking of a car. It was sad though that they only lasted a couple years.
A late Tennessee State Trooper friend of mine had about a dozen of those. He loved those things.
I owned a 1958 Edsel Corsair two door hardtop. Loved that old car. Red with white coves. It was a fast car.
Always wholesome good clean fun on your channel. Another ‘73 grad? All right old man!! Hope that doesn’t make me an ol’ man too.
Edsels were a pretty rare sight on the road, even back in ‘73. They got a little revival when American Graffiti and TV shows like Happy Days mentioned them, they became somewhat immortalized in that era.
I love this Edsel it's hilarious. Thanks for the videom Rev and the old man is a hero.
Man. why do so many say it's ugly, I think it looks great, I'll take one !
Oh man that’s a cool find! I never knew Edsel’s came with a 6 cylinder. Cool stuff!
-A heavy car like that Edsel needs a V-8.
@@auggie803 Actually depends on the use. Those inlines can give you good torque.
@@vayabroder729 Can't beat a straight 6 cylinder engine, they'll last forever!
This is the first Edsel I’ve ever seen with a 6-cylinder engine. Every one I’ve ever seen had V8s! And I’m 75 years old!
It's nice to watch you guys having fun getting something to run again. After so many years sitting idle, that old girl sounds okay. Congratulations I'm getting it going again. 👍✌️🇺🇲
Great to see a much-maligned marque brought back to life. What’s next for this gem?
Great car, glad it was rescued. Your dad graduated the year before I did !! Now I feel old. ..man.
good job, wonderful. All old cars deserve to be saved. My best cars were a dodge monaco 1967 et an eldorado 1979. they are the america that i love. long life to it.
To fight rust efficently, you can put grease everywhere : between carpet and metal, inside doors, trunk door, rear wings... when you cannot reach the hidden parts with paintbrush you can pour oil with an extender - to be repeated every year for oil, for grease every five years
congratulations from france.
I heard the part in the last video where the old man accidentally let the secret out. I've been waiting for this one. I've definitely never seen a revival with an Edsel
Hope you enjoy she was a bunch of fun..
What a Classic Car and What a couple of Dedicated Car Guys...peace, 😇Rev and Ole Man
Great video. Edsels are valuable today.
Excellent video Rev :) , Old Man :) that cool 1959 Edsel Ranger car in 4 door plus surprises me got 6 cylinders, Automatic transmission on steering wheel column also would change that green acid cable too and change oil too why saw pull dipstick out got some water why drips like that! Plus not first one seen in those cars I know guy has but V8 motor also has push button Automatic transmission on left side dash and 4 speed with Overdrive button and update brake booster with fluid resivor 1978 year plus wheels to disk front and back drums and axle change too! Also 12 Volt Negative ground with Alternator too because Generator gave up also steering change plus suspension too also much more! Car is black and white too for body plus interior too! You guys nickname this car Flapper Spedo on Flapping driver's door and trunk too also gets up going speed! Need Wd 40 door locks and jams too help work right ! Nice see a 49 year car lives on too! Think gap on the Distributor points wild remember the 1968 McCormick International 105C combine gas motor had 1 cm gap on points Rev , Old Man why is because 4 cylinder motor had Champions spark that had size threads heads of Pop bottles buy today also gap at 0.45 foul and head sockets were 13/16 not kidding you motor size was 202 Cubic Cm ! Horsepower was 105 with 130 torque and carb was 1 barrel carb Zenith with hand choke cable knob! Great motor and plus quick start ups and quiet motor ever heard! Plus 12 Volt Negative ground with Alternator GM Delco!
I have a soft spot for Edsel’s. I think their designs were perhaps a decade too late, but if you think of them as an early 50s car then they are a real stand out
Hello Rev David & Ole Man. I just love those Inline 6 engines. Sounds like the piston rings may have been sticking causing low compression. That engine will probably run better and better the more that it’s ran.
On A Historical Thought; Just imagine that the Edsel was brand new when Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens & Big Bopper lost their lives in the tragic plane crash near Clear Lake Iowa on February 3,1959. I am kind of curious what the specific manufacture date is on this Edsel. I’m so glad that both of you got the Edsel back up and running again.
My dad would of bought that car if he were still alive, he loved these cars, which is why he bought 3 of them, 2, 58s a 4 door sedan Pacer, and a 4 door CITATION 4 door hardtop, and a 59 which happens to be a Villager 9 passanger station wagon. Which I now have in my possession. He also love the 58 Mercury which he also had but unfortunately he wrecked it, (at night) comn home one night from work, he struck 2 cows in the middle of the road, 🥺🤯😵😱😭😭, no more car. Great video.😁😄👍
Smash, no more car and no more cows. My grandmother hit a cow once with her car. And once she some how jumped the ditch and ended up in a cow field. Someone with her asked her 'how are we going to get back on the road' and she said 'same way we go into the field'. She floored that car and rejumped the ditch and landed back in the road. This grandmother was a real character - she drove for years with no license, but the local judge finally made her get one. Oh and this was all in North Carolina, where the ditches along the roads are like 1 to 2 feet wide and like 2 feet deep.
Well, guys this is a great video! I saw an old Edsel in the Smoky Mountains years ago on a trip with my parents! Cheers!😁👍🛠️
This one looks solid and very restorable!
That was cool to watch!! Nothing like father and son working together!!
Hard work makes the dream work, awesome video as always Rev
That is the coolest carburetor I have ever seen..
The Datsun/Nissan trucks from that era also had a carburator design like that to. It had a glass front whare you could see the gasoline in it. Same design as tte Ford Courrier Mazda made small trucks.
Edsel's are awesome, fun to work on.
Congratulations Rev. You kept going until you got it. I guess you and the old man are going into restorations. That 59 Edsel going to need some love. Those Old Ford 6 cylinders will run when all others won’t. Blessings!
I like and prefer Ford cars and regular cab trucks.
Great car!! Please do a series of videos on the 59 Edsel so we can see it get plated again!!
I have spent many very exhausiting hours getting "over the hump" with those come-alongs.... I felt your pain.
Wow was waiting for this....finally watching it here at 23:00pm.
You are awesome.
Rev and the Ole man you guys make me smile....amazing people...God bless you and the family always...I enjoy watching you...
Hats off, thumbs up, and God bless for not hurting the lizard. I appreciate you, and I'm sure both the lizard and the Good Lord do too.
You are definitely my kind of folks.
Great vid, really enjoyed!!! 👍👍
I know you have so many to respond to but I absolutely love you guys. This is wholesome and you guys teach so much and offer so much humor and kindness thank you. Truly.
Great job guys! The Edsel is my ultimate bucket list car!
Great job guys!! I love your videos!!
Don't ever think we don't like these videos we keep watching and yes get that truck on the road and let the old man spin the back tires 🤣🤣👍👍
Thanks for watching!
THAT SOUNDS LIKE TIMING. I SO ENJOY YOU PAIR..GOD BLESS YOU BOTH.
A lot of times you can take a standard shift car that has not ran in a very long time and you can pull it with the transmission in gear for several miles. That will a lot of times work the rust off the valve seats and build compression and heat in the cylinders. Saves lots of wear and tear on batteries and starters lol . An old WWII mechanic told me about that.
Yes Sir , had a guy in highschool that took autoshop and his project was a 58 Edsel Ranger , it got painted school colors of Maroon and white , had a big block 390 he put crome reverse with baby moons and chrome sidepipes !!! That was one out of the ordinary hot rod for us in 1975 .
Bet it looked good. These old Edsels weren't that bad looking of a car. Better looking than what's being manufactured today in Detroits assembly lines now, that is a fact!
Nice video! Best car you two found IMO! It's in not too bad shape! Hope you have more videos of it coming!!
Hope so to. It isn't at all to bad looking of a car, matter of fact it's better looking than what's being sold out there and coming off of Detroits assembly lines of today. That IS a fact!!!
Good to see you two men. Thanks for letting us share the old cars videos. From. Sc
Lol! Love you Guys! Good one! Boy, I'd leave the next Edsel sitting in the weeds. Two thumbs up 👍guys!
You crazy? Get it out of the weeds and fix it up!!
Old man had a blast going in the bushes God bless you all love all your videos
Love your videos buddy good stuff
That old man is sure still young. Hes got a lot of strength.
IF YOU LIVED WHERE I AM CIN. OHIO I WOULD GO AND SEE YOU TALK THE BOOK. I TOLD MY OLD LADY LOL, I WOULD GO JUST BECOUSE THE WAY YOU ARE ,I THINK I WOULD ENJOY LISTENING YOU , NEVER BEEN IN MY LIFE. THANK YOU FOR BEENING YOU GOOD MAN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Amen.. the door to our church is open if you are ever in our area.
sa always that was fun to watch! I graduated high school in 74 a year after your dad and recall that Edsels were already developing a cult following.
Same age as me, I rather liked the looks of the Edsels.
I loved the Edsel that my grandmother made deliveries with at her florist shop... It was a special candy apple red paint job with her green logo painted on the doors...
Guess who was in charge of the Christmas displays because he didn't have a driver's license...and which made the shop more money than anything she ever did the rest of the year???
You never to get over your bitterness
Great video! Thanks Rev and Ole Man!
The Dad Jokes in this one were absolute gold lol. You guy's are awesome yall keep up the great work!
Hi Rev and the Ole Man. Great stuff, it gave you a hard time but you got there in the end. Thoroughly enjoyed watching. Cheers Chris.
My father's '61 Falcon had the glass bowl also!!! Its cool, you can see the fuel level.
Hank William's Jr, "country folks can survive."
Rev, I don't live in the country, but I'm a country boy at heart!! You can take that to the bank...
Rotor button, ignition rotor, engine, motor, battery, batry, I understand what all you're talking about..
I had a blast right along with you guys
I really love this project. I actually like easels. Can’t wait to see what you all do with her. Fix her up.
What a car David and ole man , motor sounds great
I have never seen an Edsel. So cool. Do you sell the cars after you restore them?
Hey Rev a great video!! The Edsel is the coolest car so far. It is different and you do not see one like this old girl much anymore.Great to see you and the Ole Man working together and figure it out! Maybe you need Moose again to supervise. 😁
Great video glad you posted keep them coming thanks
My gramps had an old Ford Ranchero and any time he wanted to change its color hed actually use a big paint brush and paint the entire car in that color. Crazy old man! God bless him🙏🙏
Great job guys!! You rescued another classic from the crusher.
Great Video Rev. Those Ole Engine's sure can be a pain to start at times. I feel your pain. God Bless and Be Safe.
HAPPY Sunday REV i knew you all could do it lol water under the bridge HA HA
Love your videos! You guys had me cringing mightily when you were pulling the Edsel up lol.....
Enjoyed this one
Thanks Hank.. it worked us to death.. but it ran and drove!
REV I LOVE MISSING WITH YOU , IT TAKES A CHEVY TO PULL A OLD FORD
Haha.. it pulled this one well
Sounds like a keeper! Get her running well, and make it a daily driver!
Very nice work as always man I bid not give up boom thanks for your time Lee
We had s 58 Villager wagon when I was a kid. It actually was a great car but ya,the technology was ahead of its time...which I think scared buyers off. Especially the pushbutton automatics.
Chrysler Corporation cars also had push buttong automatic drive transmissions to, Desotos, I believe.
Great To see the 59 223 cid 6 cylinder running again! Should be able to get carb kit for holley carb that was on it! Interior in good condition for original! Get brakes working and clean up exterior and put patina sause on it! Can't wait To see more vidéos on it! Take care.
No, sand her down, prime it and paint it. I hate this psntina stuff, no sense in it. You want to make your newer stuff like these 4 door station wagon trucks and SUV's that patina stuff, go ahead, their junkie looking and deserve the look, however, not this old classic Edsel here.
Rev the years where 1958 to 1960 for the Edsel.
CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEW PURCHASE!!! THANK YOU FOR SAVING THE 59 EDSEL AND GIVING HER A SECOND CHANCE !!!!! THE PERFECT DAILY DRIVER!!! GREAT VIDEO & EDUCATION!!!!! THANKS FOR SHARING I LEARNED SO MUCH!!!!!
I enjoyed this, thanks, guys!
Rev this was a great one! LOL and some good jokes too!
A couple tips for ya. Put a pipe over the come-along handle & it will be much easier to winch up. Also I piece of foam 1 inch pipe insulation wrapped over the cable to dampen it incase in snaps. I also use a large 3 claw puller to get stuck rusty brake drums off. Remove all the shoes & reinstall the drum. Rolls easily then.
Bob, I appreciate the tip.. If we had a pupe we woulda done just that.. no pipe to be had at the moment. A 3 claw puller would work better for sure.. Thanks for watching, we appreciate you!
Rev now I know you weren't always a pastor. I can tell by your car skills that you did this for a living somewhere at one time.
I am surprised you didn’t try and sneak the lizard home in your pocket!!! 😮😂.
He was a little too fast for me.. Im getting old and all.
When that car come off the line i was 5 yrs old, been draggin junkers out of the bushes for 50 yrs, never got an EDSEL. My father in law was going to sell me one yrs ago from his salvage business but i didnt have the 150.oo dollars, and wouldnt borrow any money. that one is a 223 6cld with a 3 speed, would be nice if it had overdrive. GREAT RESCUE !!
I don't think the Edsel was or is an ugly car. I hope the Ole Man enjoys her. He and I graduated the same year, 1973!
