  • In this part a lot of machining for the portal of the press.
    And... Mozart!
Sorry Mozart's second piece of music is wrongly called a "flute concerto" by me. It should be: "oboe concerto".

What a beautiful build, I'm very impressed with your mini-mills, for their size they take very deep cuts.
Btw, where do you source your steel? in my area there are no suppliers who sell small quantities.
It's always a treat to see a new video from you, makes me wanna go machine something :D

      Hi Victor,
The right quality of steel is very hard to come by in small quantities here in the Netherlands. So I mostly have to resort to constructional steels like ST37-2, silver steel (expensive!) or free machining steel. That's available through a few suppliers like "De Metaalwinkel". They have an online shop, and are located not too far from me. Thanks for the compliment, and do machine something 🙂

How do you prevent all of that beautiful untreated steel from rusting?

Just a light coating with oil. My shop is heated and dry.

Hi Michel, I feel like I am probably in the minority but I much prefer when you add your commentary :) Watching the machining is fine, but the wisdom and rationale shared is missing which I think is a loss. Still watched and enjoyed the video, but thought I would share my opinion

Your not. I stopped watching because of the music and no talking. Michael, SPEAK! 😁

Thanks for that. I don't know if you're in the minority, but there's just not much to report in this video. It's simple straight forward work, and if you want to know more about the (intended) construction details, there's more to learn in the previous video. This video is mainly about positioning (a lot of) holes accurately, some squaring up, beveling and thread cutting . The next video will be more exciting. Then I'll make (and test) the cylinder. And after that the pressure (literally) mounts, because in part four the hand pump is made and tested, and with a bit of luck the press will be put under high pressure in that episode.

I’d prefer no music. The sound of the machining is the best soundtrack.
