- The other day, I was looking for a cake pan on the Net and ended up finding many 2 ingredients chocolate cake posts! This idea must be popular in Japan!!!
I modified the recipe in the way I think is good and it came out amazingly delicious :)
This is optional, but I coated the cake with some homemade fruit brandy for an extra aroma and moistness.

2-Ingredient Chocolate Cake
Difficulty: VERY EASY
Time: 1hr
Number of Servings: 6
Calories per Serving: 200Kcal
Necessary Equipment:
15cm (6inch) round cake pan
electric mixer
Ingredients:
3 eggs
3 bars of chocolate (total of 165g = 5.8oz.)
Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 170C (338F). Separate the eggs and place the whites in a large bowl. Let your egg whites sit in the refrigerator to keep them cold until you are ready to use them (which makes the meringue more stable).
2. Place the chocolate (broken into pieces) in a large bowl. Melt the chocolate in a double boiler over hot water (60C/140F). When the chocolate has cooled, add the yolks and mix with a whisk.
3. In a large bowl, whip egg whites with an electric mixer until firm peaks form. *If it's thick enough, you can turn the bowl upside down without it sliding out.
4. Add 1/3 Meringue into the chocolate batter and blend well with a whisk. Then add the rest of the Meringue 1/2 at a time and mix well with a spatula.
5. Line the round cake pan with parchment paper. Pour the batter into the pan and drop the pan lightly on the counter to raise the air bubbles out of the batter.
6. Bake at 170C (338F) for 30-40 minutes.
7. When they are done, cool in the pan until you can touch it. Then place it on a wire rack to cool completely.
You can brush the cake with syrup (rum, kirsch, brandy, or any kind of liquor you like) and/or dust with powdered sugar (confectioner's sugar) to finish. You can serve it with whipped cream if desired.
You can either serve immediately or chill in the fridge before serving! You can also keep in the freezer for a week :D

After 8 years I still come back for the recipe whenever I crave for cake in the middle of the night
Aww welcome back 🍫
Tried this for my dad's 75th birthday and it was delicious. I used dark chocolate orange almond chocolate bars (purchased from Aldi). It was super simple to make and very rich and delicious! Thank you for such a great tutorial and recipe!!
+Greekgirl36 The smell isn't too eggy? Once I tried a chocolate mousse recipe, it was pretty simple, eggs and chocolate but the smell of with was so eggy, but the taste was pretty good.
+Lex VDC nope, not eggy at all. Very chocolaty!! Yum!
great! Thank you, I'm gonna try it then!
+Eleni Antoniadi-Tsaramboulidi Hi, yes, I'm Greek. My Dad's family is from Corfu & my mother's side of the family is from Mani/Kalamata.
+Eleni Antoniadi-Tsaramboulidi -No, not very much unfortunately...
Chocolate cake with only 2 ingredients? Where has this video been all my life???
1:42 - And if it isn't thick enough, you can clean up your counter. =3
This is still one of my favorite recipes of all time!! It's soo simple and it makes a delicious cake!! For everyone making this, I recommend doing it exactly according to recipe the 1st time and then experiment with different chocolate (for example half dark, half milk chocolate), add spices like a pinch of salt, cinnamon or ground chili or add a teaspoon of coffee to enhance the flavor. But the original recipe is already wonderful
aww thank you!!!
Stop fussing about the calories people! just enjoy the cake....go drink green tea if the calories really bothering you -____-
anyone who's concerned about eating too many calories, shouldn't be eating cake.
fari8 this is a relatively low calories care too
Actually, I was really surprised about the lower calorie content for a chocolate dessert. It's almost like angel food cake (which uses whipped egg whites too). It helps when your dessert is mostly made of air! 🍰
Despite this video being 6 years old, I tried making it for my son's birthday cake today and it turned out great.
Both my kids and wife loved it.
Thank you for making the instructions so clear.
Happy birthday! and thank you for trying it out ☺️
@@ochikeron Thank you very much teacher!
By the way if I wanted to do one which is double in thickness, do you roughly know how long I would need to bake it.
You need only 1 ingredient, chocolate eggs :P
Or egg chocolates
or just a chocolate cake
My cake came out great!!! Tried with 70% chocolate a lil bit on the bitter side but I still like it. I will try with semi sweet chocolate next time. Is crazy how the texture taste like it has flour in it! Thank u for the recipe!!!!
I made this years ago, and I just realized if I use sugar free chocolate I can eat this in my diet 😂 I love it.
Sounds great 😋
@anita_banana where do I get sugar free chocolate please? I am in Australia. Thank you.

What size are your feet?
Your oven is so cool!!
tara jha her oven sounds like a Sesame Street character!😻👍 #SoCute I want one! 🙏😉
I was taught in a baking school that a round crack is a must and perfect for this cake but a lot blogger trying to avoid the crack on top. Is crack on top the authentic way of making it?
I totally agree. In Japan, cracks on top are considered beautiful and artistic 💖
the cracks on top are what make it authentic, if it isnt cracked it doesnt look half as rusting. its as if those folks are saying they want their baguette to look like one big lincoln log made of bread
lol
i just happened to watch video... i see myself very young and neat...
just discovered your channel, can't wait to try this!
This was before you had kids and I was in middle school learning how to cook, oh how time flies
thank you :)
I wonder if I can put this in a muffin tin and make mini cakes.
That sounds awesome
MelloDees im not sure, they wouldnt be very pretty since this method makes the cake sink
+Felicia Oei yes!
yes you need... it is tough to do by hand...
I love this three ingredient chocolate cake! I made it with semisweet and dark chocolate and came out delicious! Thanks for the recipe.
Of course you can make it by hand! It's just much much harder work... I whisked for about 40 minutes... hey, consider it workout! ;)
I've whipped egg whites to stiff peaks by hand before. It can take about ten minutes, but it's doable. Make sure to use your shoulder, not just your wrist, or you'll be exhausted! Hold the bowl at an angle, because what you want to do is trap air bubbles inside the egg whites. Don't use an aluminum bowl.
omg!! just now found out can bake cake without flour and baking powder 😍😍
+Yanin Jauregui I used regular chocolate bars~ Meiji

well... you can, but you must be strong enough to do this real quick! hehe
i think you can :) sounds nice!
you are welcome :)
aww happy to hear that!!!
+Nicole Rutilia yes you can
wouldn't this be a souffle?
tony duong no. Gâteau au chocolat
it doesn't matter :) you can add it
Do I need 165g of chocolate in total or does each bar weigh 165g? :)
In total i think
+Sarah-Jane Perna each bar
Definitely 165g in total! Each bar is about 55g, so you can also get a larger chocolate bar of the same equivalent!
Can I use this recipe to make cupcakes?
Thank you for the video~ Looks very easy to make!
I do have 1 question! Can I split the batter in half, 1/2 use dark chocolate, 1/2 use white chocolate, then when pour in pan together to make it a marble cake?? Or will the batter be too runny for that idea?
Thank you again~ Love your videos!
you can try and tell me how it came out. hehe
haha ok ok~ thx so much!
btw, u have absolutely gorgeous hair!!!
OMG this one was soo good, thanks a Lot Ochikeron! I m amazed i succeeded baking a 2-ingredient cake! In fact i didn t want to make a big cake so i did 3 small muffins using 50gr of dark choco+ one egg. The result was outrageously delicious, and much healthier as other buttered cakes! I m only gonna do this chococake from now one! (Perhaps using 1/2 milk choco; 1/2 dark) ;)
I remeber watching this years ago and I still love watching it!
aww thank you :)
is that a solid chocolate?! i think so! it sounds delish :)
i did a combination of 2 hersheys dark chocolate and 2 herehys cookies and cream. it is delicious
I have made it like more than 6 times lol cause it's so easy and tasty . Any suggest for me to make any kind of stuff like this ?
thank you! if you don't mind cooking in a microwave, this one is popular, too :) Microwave Chocolate Chip Cookies (Cup Measurement) Recipe レンジでチョコチップクッキー
What type of chocolate did you use? Have you ever tried it with dark chocolate?
Everyone who's had the cakes I've made from this recipe has absolutely ADORED it. Turns out my mom found a similar cake in a catalog for $95, while I'm able to make one for about a tenth of that. Tastes amazing and it's light on my wallet, too! Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas!
aww thanks XD happy holidays
1/10th of $95 ? Where does 3 eggs and a chocolate bar cost $9.50 ? I can make that for about $1.20 in the USA.
@@cyann410 I'm in the USA too (the South no less). I actually made double batches (6-eggs/6-bars cakes) and that was with the mid-tier eggs and dark chocolate.
The $95 cake was in a Dean & DeLuca catalog from a decade ago (they're bankrupt now I think), but they were known for their "upscale" (read: Hipstery AND Pretentious) nature. The cake had a fuller recipe (the traditional Gateau has a lot more to it) but it had a bunch of European-sourced ingredients like Swiss-sourced chocolate, really fine flour, etc. etc.
It's no surprise they closed tbh.
スフレの?はい!これをベースに作っているのでセットで見てください♥
ive try it and it tasted deliciousoo
oh thank you!
I made this using Hershey's Cookies 'n' Cream (didn't have any other chocolate on hand), and it was amazing! Will definitely get some semi-sweet chocolate and try it again!
+Naomi Uchiha not fluffy. it is like gâteau au chocolat
it should be fluffy it it has meringue.
Ç'alert très bien
Miss ochikeron, how come you're not.. well..... uh... fat?
I can only look at this and gain weight..^^"
***** You know that gâteau au chocolat just means chocolate cake, right ? And that a real "gateau au chocolat" is made with more than two ingredients ._.
Sylvia FusRoDah 'Gateau au chocolat' is a rich chocolate cake and the desired outcome is a thick chocolate core inside and she achieved that effect + she made it healthier by omitting butter which is also suitable for ovo-vegetarians.
If you're talking about 'other' ingredients, it'd only be flour and butter. However, there are several ways of making cake and she went by the meringue approach, which totally fine.
Hmmm wery good for winter dépression helló from Transilvania!!!
You are amazing this looks amazing. Because I'm from England we measure everything with grams and in America and other places they measure with cups soooooo it's so great that u put ur measuring a as grams it's sooooo helpful x
gluten free and moist! yum! When I baked it, it didn't rise properly, but it still tasted amazing ^^

ochikeron hello. may I know if your oven sets to use fan force or simply top&bottom heat? I tried but didn't brown the top.
bunun türkçe açıklaması olması lazım bızlere ıyı anlamamız için lütfen
i hope it is going right~~~
Eggs are good for you. You can eat 6 - 8 a day without worries.
Your oven talks! thats so cool!
Can you make these in muffin tins????
yes!
glad to hear that :)
can you use white chocolate and it still work?
I don’t think so Megan
Le puedo poner chocolate en polvo y si es la misma cantidad que en tableta? Gracias 💕
YES!
oh great :D thank you!!! today i saw on TV that many people overseas like "kawaii"culture of japan. i can tell that from my viewers XD hehe
maybe your pan was too big?! i didn't double it.
Ochikeronさん♪返信ありがとうございます(´;ω;`)嬉しすぎますっ!今度作ってみまーす!!
So what's the difference between this and a souffle?
can I substitute the chocolate for cocoa powder? if so, how much cocoa should I put in?
Wat is the texture if the cake? Like is it soft, chewy, crispy of wat? Cause I'm really hoping the cakes soft and fluffy. So could someone please tell me, that would be great! XD
Very very late reply but from what i see the cake probably has a melt in your mouth feel and light texture. Probably not very fluffy.
Wow! I shall try. It seams easy and yummy! Thanks Ochi!
you are very welcome :)
Love this recipeeee
Easy to make
Also yummy for a dieter like meee
lol
Thank you, Ochikeron, for your gorgeous recipes. Would you please advise what sort of oven you are using. Merci!
do you need and electric hand mixer? D: i cant use my own force?
Hi! I love this recipe. This is my first time making, and I think I've over whipped the egg whites. They just don't look like yours. After I poured the chocolate-yoke mixture in the egg whites everything turned from firm to soupy. I'm craving chocolate so I stuck it in the oven anyway. I guess I'll find out in about 20mins if It still worked.
Can I use this recipe and sandwich it with berries and whipping cream?
Or probably chocolate granache? Want to bake it with my student. Oh ya, do I need water bath during the baking process?
I have tried this recipe. It works but alittle bit bitter as I used dark chocolate :)
thanks for the recipe.. you shoud have more videos on this kind of easy recipe for beginner like me :) thanks :) Happy new year
Thank you very much for this easy recipe! I tried once on Thanksgiving day, very delicious, actually tasted better next day! Right now, even my 3.5 years old daughter become your fan:)
In France this is simply a chocolate soufle, no one would call it a cake in the West or Europe. by the way I am a big fan!!
I love the way you say "Gâteau au chocolat "
Cake is awesome. I made small adjustments: covering the cake with melted chocolate. My boyfriend loved it too.
i made this today and it turns out good! now i can bake cake! thanks for your recipe! the cake is very moisture and not so sweet! the texture is perfect! 美味しくて食べやすい! ありがとうございます先生おちけろん!
:)
Two ingredient cake? What kind of sorcery is this?? I will try it and find out. 🤗
Yes 😊
Can I use almond milk chocolate? Will it ruin the texture of the cake? Thank you ochi, keep up with the great and kawaii recipe! :-)
That's not a cake, it's a chocolate omelet.
both please
I put coconut flakes in mine just before i put the whole cake in the oven! It seemed that made the cake more dense and me and my family absolutely adored it! It really impressed them
めっちゃ美味しそうだよね〜!作りたい..でもオーストラリアはメイジチョコがないでしょ..見つけなかった。
黒チョコは大丈夫ですか?ありがとうございま〜す!
Great recipe! Thanks for the calorie intake 😉greetings from Mexico😁
just to let you know: beaten eggwhites are not called meringue, it is only a meringue when granulated sugar has been added...

Can I use white chocolate?
It looks so delicious. New friend here fully supportive. Thanks for sharing dear. Greetings from Germany💝 see you around
Anyone put the cake in the fridge? How’s the texture like after chilling the cake? Need to heat up to eat? Or just eat after bringing the cake out from the fridge?
Either cold or warm is ok! Just out of the fridge is slightly firm and cold. Very delicious! But if you like to eat it warm, you can heat the piece again or at room temperature :)
@@ochikeron Thank you 😘
It tastes better with ice cream.
Can i whisk the maringue instead? Cause i dont have an electric whisker

I wish I had that oven so badly where did you get it from
I can see that your cake caved in a bit, what you can do to prevent this happening is as soon as it comes out of the oven, turn the pan upside down, but making sure the cake does not come out of the tin yet. Then leave it to cool upside down and when you take it out it will not be caved in! Hope this tip helps you :)
私も作ってみました。

I made this today and it was great! Easy recipe with a tasty result. I just have a cheap mixer so the egg whites did not get as stiff as the ones here, but it everything came out fine. Try it!
