A bit of a late correction but at 3:47, I state that the OG timeline has Sindel kill herself since being married to Shao Kahn was so bad. This is actually from the MK9 timeline. In the OG timeline, it is stated she just died. Regardless, her story in Deception is leagues better than MK11 Sindel.
They should have made this DLC all about the Shiray Ryu and Lin Kuei beef instead

Dominic Cianciolo has no grasp on the characters or legacy of MK. Retcons, entire character rewrites (even before M1K) and just overall poorly written EVERYTHING. I get that a lot of people think its mean to ask for him to be fired, but what else is there? He hasn't improved at all in 3 game lifespans, even mixing up his own writings from the comics multiple times. What can we petition for? Make him study the old MK games? Why is it so mean to ask for something, we love to get a better writer
Um... who's doing the writing? The person. It's their JOB. If they can't do their job they SHOULD indeed be fired. If you call them out for poor writing than it's OK to potention for the termination of their job. People signing the petition are NOT crazy and SHOULDN'T cool down because they didn't receive the quality they paid for and if the person in charge of the writing isn't fired the writing won't change and the overall product will continue to suck. So don't PERSONALLY attack the person. He's only doing his job. Don't insult him. HOWEVER he's not doing his job so everyone who paid that is unsatisfied with his work has the ABSOLUTE right to signing a petition and fire him so NRS can hire competent writers. Yes he needs a job to support a family to live. He should bare that in mind when doing his job and not half-ass the final product. People like to blame corporations for problems, but sometimes their staff sucks. Hire people who can DO the job and not dead weight and the product will improve exponentially. If you're unhappy with your purchase you need to speak up and sign the petition to try and change that fate for the next installment. Otherwise corporations will continue poor business practices, people that should be held accountable are not, and you and other paying customers will continue to be ripped off. So I disagree with you. Don't personally attack the man, but DO sign the petition, holding him accountable for failure and with his job on the line will do BETTER next MK game.

The budget makes up the team behind the game, with wb failing to deliver with suicide squad, mk1 was rushed out and released unfinished. One writer for the whole game's story is likely down to budget cuts not allowing nrs to afford more or they just chose to use one writer which would be a stupid decision if they can afford more and then it would be nrs' fault

I think the choice of roster is fine for mk1, it's probably one of the best they've done in recent games but original characters should have come as well. Idk why harumi isn't playable or even a kameo when this is the first time she gets to live in one of the games, kronika probably won't ever return to the franchise which is fine because she isn't a very good villain anyway but I do think they would benefit with some original characters added to the game like how mkx added characters like erron black and mk11 had kollector (even if he wasn't liked much) which could happen if the secret character becomes playable

Another issue this expansion highlighted about MK1 is the SIZE. Without the Khaos Reigns DLC, this game was nearly twice the size of Spider Man 2. That is criminal. Spider-Man 2 is an open world game with more content, story, fidelity, processing power, and almost ZERO loading screens (the only ones are select cutscenes and the one after file select). But somehow MK1 is bigger. As a matter of fact, just to get the FREE update (because I didn't buy the DLC), I had to delete SM2 because the free update was 76 GBs. That's criminal

In my opinion, the new story just shouldn't have been made, I feel like they should've left it at the first part and that was it. It felt finished and accomplished, the gameplay is another conversation, but the story was good. I'd give it a 9/10. The visual effects were there, the story build up to the action, the character development, everything about it was great. But in THIS ONE, it's just...disappointment. Noob is boring, the pacing was was too quick, Havik literally came from nowhere, Geras got captured even though he has time powers....that doesn't make sense. Sektor and Cyrax are not interesting but Sektor...lowkey bad.....ANYWAY, Johnny cage is now Captain America.........what is this expansion story bro? Why didn't we see the original Johnny, Kung Lao, Kenshi, and Raiden. How are you gonna give Khameleon more screen time than Liu or Raiden? NOBODY cares about Khameleon bruh. Also, the timeline stuff I'm okay with, I can't see what other thing they could've done, which is why I like the first part, but Khaos Reigns just...sucks. It's mid and average, an expansion story or just a story of a game in general, is supposed to feel like a movie, not a youtube short. In general the expansion is a 3/10, and the only reason why it's not a 0, is because I loved the visual effects, that's literally the only good part. I'm sort if disappointed with the timeline stuff because it means that Liu isn't the most powerful God, they're basically all the same level since they all beat Kronika. Now everyone's a universal being/multiversal being☠️. Why is Sektor Bihan's glazer, why did Noob defeat Havik but Liu got folded when Liu's stronger than Noob by a billion times, AND WHERE'S LIU'S ORIGINAL KITANA!?!??! WHAT HAPPENED TO HER FROM THE FIRST PART!?!? It's just...no. It's a complete no, and it shouldn't even exist, I'm not gonna lie. Why did Bi-Han turn from semi evil, to pure evil, then to good, then to evil again☠️. The ONLY part that carried this entire story, was Khaos Liu's entrance to fight Tanya. THAT PART WAS FREAKING FIRE YOU CAN'T LIE. Liu carried the entire expansion story, regular Liu and Khaos Liu. Regular Liu was about to get to COOOOOKIINNGGG against Khaos Kenshi and Takeda, but nope, Noob wanted to fight. It's just, so disappointing. We all thought that Noob revived mk...Noob was disappointing in my opinion. That's all just me, and I feel like a lot of you agree with me.

I liked the expasion I just really hated the Tanya chapter, the chapter felt like it was going on forever.
I agree that they should stop the MCU multiverse nonsense but I do think you can take some notes from the MCU that could be good. One thing I wanted to see was Kitana and Mileena have a character growth like Gamora and Nebula one is the better half the other is an abomination. But one point they become actual sisters. Just for an example of a good idea but NOOOOOOO!!

What thought mk9 was the last good story granted my exposure was history behind the warrior summarizing but seeing the difference in storytelling felt at least mk9 set itself up to something while the rest either paid no significance to the story or bad writing

My views may differ from most everyone. As a UI Designer and UX Researcher, I understand the large amounts of work that goes into creating websites and games.
Although, I don't consider myself a gamer, this is a game that I really like. The thought out process that went into MK1 and the story are amazing.
Yes, I understand why people are hating on the multi-verse concept (considering the MCU already did this), but it worked based on MK11 end of story. The color pallets and detail that went into each character, the story endings, and now the towers of time are done very well.
The company continues to listen to all fans. Good, bad, or indifferent. It looks like they take everything and everyone's opinion and put in the best possible work they can based on that research.
There will always be customers who just don't like a game and they all have their own reasons. Just like there are people (like myself) who do like the game for their own reasons.
My reasons are: I thought the story 1st and 2nd parts were done extremely well. The attention to detail, the length of the combined story are great.
The attention to detail with the characters, the pallets, the fatalities, brutality, the relics and so on, are amazing.
Are there some things that could be better, yes. But overall, the game is 9 out of 10!
@@nicholasblake9561 That makes sense. I personally find it a 5 out of 10 because a bunch of well designed nothing happens. Visually it looks great; outside of a few tweaks which could make it better. Gameplay is...ok. Story, with all do respect was rushed and did not do anything meaningful for the lore. It's throw away like MOST stories nowadays. The Acolyte looked like Star Wars and was acted fine for the most part, but the story was garbage. They did not do their best. MK is the same. They squandered good story concepts and ruined some characters. The story was TOO short and expensive. The special guests don't justify the price. MK 11 AFTERMATH saved MK 11. This somehow worsened MK1. It was NOT their best work and the price is too steep. The artists and programmers did well, but the people at the top and writers sucked. It's mid at best and garbage at worst. 5/10 and that's ONLY because of the visuals which were stunning.
Personally I think the game is getting better as time goes on, the gameplay is honestly really fun because I don't feel restricted on the combos I can do with variations being removed but the game lacked content and still does, the base story was pretty good and even the dlc was decent before the ending which just ruined the whole thing for me and many others. But I would be lying if I said I haven't considered buying another one of the main fighting games like street fighter 6 or tekken 8. The main issue I believe comes down to mk1 being rushed out by wb to try and make their money back on suicide squad

Idk…I didn’t hate it. I’m a fanboy for MK. Have been since MK2 in the arcade and I’ve already gotten my moneys worth from one character alone, not to mention the other stuff released.
I am absolutely not going to argue that it’s too expensive and I’m going to put the blame on WB and not so much on NRS.
But I don’t like MK for the story, I mean, this isn’t high brow art. It’s goofy, over the top nonsense and it always has been. It’s fun but the reason I love MK is the fighting. It’s refined, complex and you get out of it what you put in. The mechanics have always rewarded creativity and the expansion is just more of what I love. Stupid nonsense, amazing gameplay, and Cyrax. Favorite character since I was 6.
Fair enough if YOU don’t like it for the story. But I grew up loving the story of the 3D era with actual compelling plot lines. I just think if you’ve got such talented artists that know how to choreograph some amazing fights and create insane visuals, it’s wasted potential to have mediocre to bad writing. Why can’t the writing be good for people who care about the story AND for people who like just the fighting?

Shouldn’t be worth 50$ especially if you own the 120$ version
Mk loses that excuse when they're the ones who keep leaning on their story mode with each game.
It’s weird to say the story is terrible, but don’t go after the writer. Obviously they approved his story, but it doesn’t change the fact that, like you said, MK stories have been weak since probably MKX at least. Things won’t get better unless we tell them it sucks.
