      I haven’t used the m track solo so I can’t comment. I think the specs are pretty much the same so I’d say go with whatever is cheaper. The m audio has a decent software bundle and the Behringer gets you Waveform OEM which include the collective synth. Go with whichever one you think will fit your needs best.

    This is a case where I would say, don't waste your money on the UMC22 unless the 16 bit, and the features are exactly what you want. But if you are unsure of your needs, for $30 more, the UMC202HD is well worth it and the much better choice. Not only does it give you 24 bit, but also both inputs are Mic, Line, and Instrument selectable (i.e. you can do stereo mics, or stereo line in like from a stereo synth), pad on those inputs (more input range), and there are separate volume controls for main and headphone out, which you will quickly wish you had if using both headphones and monitor speakers regularly.
    It is often said, buy it right the first time and you won't have to buy again later. The UMC202HD fits that minimum requirement for most purposes where you need only 2 inputs. The UMC22 does not. Have a little more money? Get the UMC404HD - 4 ins/outs, MIDI in/out, send/return loops, A/B monitor switching.

      For voiceovers it likely won’t be noticeable. But if you are doing voiceovers for a company or plan to do them for another company they may request the audio to be recorded at 24 bit 48khz. But if you are just doing this for yourself, you likely won’t notice a difference.

    • @AudioTechTV

      If you aren’t recording anything then y9y won’t really need an audio interface unless you want to connect some studio monitors and other studio gear. But if you are just using loops and samples the audio interface won’t help your sound. If you record midi beats then an interface can help with latency so your timing will be better but if that’s what you want I recommend looking at a Focusrite or Audient interface as they have better latency.

    such a glut of $49 interfaces now with the new wave of better usb mics
    whats your take, zane?
    ive had the umc202hd for years with no issues

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад +2

      I've noticed that the $49 interfaces are all pretty much the same. They have different exteriors and the mic preamp is likely different but the specs are pretty much the same and I'm sure they will sound pretty much the same. Both M-Audio and Behringer make decent quality budget gear. I haven't tested out the M-Track Solo yet but I'm sure it will be very similar in sound to the UMC22. Now my take on cheaper usb mics vs an audio interface and microphone. I would go with the cheap audio interface and microphone. The Fifine K669 is a decent cheap USB mic but I like the idea of having an interface because then I can change up the microphone and have more variety and different mics for different things. For USB mics the really good ones cost $199 and up. And again you're stuck with that one sound. I use the Shure MV51 in pretty much every video I do. It's a USB mic and in my opinion it sounds great. I use it for 1 thing, just my videos. For everything else I use an audio interface and microphone as different things need different mics. So if you're purchasing a USB mic for one thing and you know that mic does a great job at that one thing then go for it but if you like variety (or have a microphone addiction like me) then you might want to get an interface with microphones. You can always keep those mics and upgrade your interface later on.
      WOW that was a long response. Thank you for watching. Keep creating! 👊👍

      I’ve used the Behringer xm8500 with this interface. You need to crank the gain almost full. The XM8500 needs a lot of gain. You may want to look into getting a condenser mic. They require less gain so you can turn them up louder. With the XM8500 if you’re recording speaking then you want to be right up close to it. If you’re signing you want to sing nice and loud.

In the playback tab for that device go to properties and then click on the advanced tab and under the exclusive mode area, make sure “allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” is unchecked. Then click apply and you may want to do the same thing in the recording tab too.

    Hey, thanks for the video! I have an amp which has a XLR out and cab sim but not a headphone jack. I heard that the best way to fix that is to connect the DI out into an interface and then just run the headphones into that. Will this do the job? If it's worth getting the other more expensive interface I will but just for the headphones it kinda seems a big ask for an extra £60 so I'm wondering if just for that, it won't really matter and getting a more expensive one would just be a waste. And how will it work if I have the amp slightly breaking up? Thanks again :)

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад +1

      If the output is not powered this will work. Meaning that output is not meant to power a cabinet or speaker. Also if the output is line level, which it might be if it has a cabinet sim, you may not need the DI. The DI is meant to bring signals up to line level so if it’s already outputting at line level the DI will be redundant.
      If you’re just using this for the headphones you can go with any interface really. The more expensive ones will be overkill. If you plan on recording then you may want to grab something that is at least 24 bit.
      As for the break up. If you can get the break up in the preamp stage and then control the output volume that would be ideal that way you’re not overloading the interface which would sound terrible. If you need to crank the output of the amp to get the desired break up then what you might want to get is a load box. The load box would connect to the powered speaker output of your amp and then connect to your audio interface. It acts like the cabinet and will accept the full power of your amp and then filter it out to a level that your audio interface can handle. So you could have everything dimed and still get a decent input level.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад +2

      That could be caused from having the gain for your mic set to loud. A bad cable can cause this too or a problem with a mic. First make sure you’re using an xlr male to xlr female cable with your mic. Not an xlr to 1/4” cable. If you’re using the proper cable try turning the gain down and see if the boss goes a away. It shouldn’t be there if you have the gain around 3/4 of the way even a bit passed that. So almost cranked but not quite. If that gets rid of the hiss but is too quiet, you may need to speak louder and/or speak closer into the mic. If the hiss is still there it could be a bad cable, an issue with the mic, or an issue with the interface itself. You can try moving the interface and maybe relocating the mic, maybe there is some interference.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад +1

      The line input has a different impedance level compared to an instrument input. You can connect an instrument to it and see how it sounds. If you think it sounds ok then go for it. Another option would be to grab a DI and then you can connect your guitar to the DI and the DI will go into the line/mic input. That would be ideal. The Behringer DI400p is pretty affordable and sounds decent.

      If you’re just plugging your guitar directly into the audio interface and using an amp sim the UMC22 should be good enough. If you’re recording a mic up to a cabinet the solo will give you better quality but it may not be too noticeable. If you’re just having fun and maybe recording some demo songs at home the UMC22 can deliver quality recordings. But the Solo will give you 24 but recordings and some people may prefer the mic preamp onThe solo but it’s all a preference thing. The Midas preamp on the UMC22 is decent.

    • @AudioTechTV
      @AudioTechTV  3 года назад

      The background noise could be caused by the mic and type of mic that you are using. The amount of gain that you’re using for that mic. The room that you’re recording in can also cause this too. If you’re using a condenser mic, they are designed to pick up the sounds of a room. You can try lowering the gain and getting closer to the mic to reduce noise.
      If you’re using a dynamic mic, they typically reject background noise better but require a lot more gain which can increase preamp and background noise. Try lowering the gain and getting closer to the mic. If you have access to other microphones try them out to make sure it’s not the mic that is causing the noise.

      If you're connecting it to a mixer, I recommend spending about $30 more and getting the Behringer UM202HD. It has 2 line inputs or mic preamps so you can connect a stereo mixer into it. The UMC22 only has 1 mic preamp or line input and you can connect one side of the mixer to the instrument input but it's not going to give you the greatest quality.

Currently, our sound is routed to our ATEM production switcher, out the HDMI output, and into our capture card. That is how we are getting audio to the computer. It isn't really bad but it seems when someone is signing, all you hear is highs and no mid or bass. It isn't full. So I am thinking sending straight to the computer from the board will be a big improvement.

      Some mics require more gain then others. First make sure you’re using an xlr to xlr mic cable not an xlr to 1/4” cable. Then you might want to try and project your voice a little more. So the input is louder. Another option would be to purchase a Fethead or cloudlifter which adds clean gain so you can lower the gain on your interface. I use a Fethead now and it works very well. The good thing about it is you can use it with any dynamic mic so even if you decide to get another mic later, the Fethead or cloudlifter will work with it as well.

    could anyone help I got this Behringer umc22 audio interface and my mic wont work when I plug in the XLR cable in and out I see the led sig and clip light up but once the cables in the interface the lights are turn off and my mic isn't working I only see the led lights flicker when I unplug the cable and re plug it back in I got a new cable and same thing happens could it be that the mic/line1 doesn't work or what is going on I also tired drivers and I'm pretty sure my mic works but haven't got to test it since it is new. The mic is an at2020. If someone has some info that would be nice thanks. (I haven't used an audio interface before so i could be doing something or haven't that is causing the issue...) and yeah the +48v is on!

      If you turn up the gain on the mic input, push in the direct monitor button and plug headphones into the front of the interface, can you hear your mic?

      @@AudioTechTV It works in WAVE but with latency. I've installed ASIO drivers and yet if I select ASIO in the sound set-up, it doesn't seem to recognize my fast track pro ? Bad asio drivers ? Dam thing was working fine on Windows 7 before my laptop expired. Thank's man, spent a few hours... :-)

      @@AudioTechTV I got it! It finally works. You were the only one who said it worked with Windows 10, even the manufacturer says it doesn't. Thank's man.

    Would you guys say this thing has enough quality for semi-professional voice overs?

      For semi-professional voiceover work this will be fine. The bigger factors for quality will be your microphone and your room.

    If you create a great song, people listen to it not seeing the audio interface you use.
    Nice and motivating, use what you can afford and pray for greater grace.
