Wow, thanks. It worked. Took a bit to get the old thermocouple out of the bracket but once the new one was in place, my water heater fired up and stayed on. We have hot water. A bit of inflation since 2018. The Thermocouple was $12, not $10. Took me about an hour plus the drive to the store and back. Really appreciate your video. Thanks, thanks, thanks.
Thank you for this video! I’ve looked everywhere for just a straight forward answer on my issue without 100 other possibilities. Fixed my exact same issue
I bought this water heater ruclips.net/user/postUgkx8G49mV71sAzUl9shXyLW-r3XgHH9EVh1 for use in my bus conversion. I installed it under my kitchen sink and it is fed by a high efficiency on-demand LP water heater. It is both a backup hot water source as well as a water saving device since we have hot water on demand rather than having to wait for the gas on demand water heater to finish its ignition cycle. I decided on this water heater due to the fact that it only draws 1300watts when it's ON instead of the 1500 watts that most Water heaters this size draw. In an RV a couple hundred watts can be a big deal. With very low standby losses, I don't have to worry about excessive power consumption. When propane is not available for our gas water heater, in conjunction with our low flow shower head there is enough hot water available to shower, albeit we won't be taking "hotel showers." Also very happy with the recovery rate of this water heater. Granted, it is quite small, but it does exactly what we need it to do.
I cleaned mine and it is still acting up, ran a heating cycle without problem then stopped with same issue and worked again later. The other cause could be the gas line pressure regulator. They reduce utility company pressure from 2 Psi down to 7-11 inches water column. My heater manual says it needs at least 4 inches W.C. If the regulator is acting up or if the utility company is not delivery enough gas pressure the heater might turn itself off with an error code. There's a vent screw on the regulator that can get clogged with oil and cause it to malfunction giving insufficient pressure to the appliance. The heater manual actually say : "Is there a minimum of 4" W.C pressure. If No, call gas company to increase gas pressure".
@@MeTreesndirt Ok, update: I removed the bottom cage, took out the gas tube with the thermistor temp sensing stick. I vaccumed the inside and outside around the grid. Then i used 2000 grit sandpaper to remove carbon deposit on the thermistor stick. Gas heater has worked ever since without problem. I hope it'll stay that way. Forget all i wrote about the gas pressure that was not the issue. Try to vacuum all the dust and debris and clean the thermistor. The system wasn't breating in enough fresh air and the thermistor might have gotten a deposit of carbon from the incomplete combustion.
Hi! I think I have the same problem. I bought a thermocouple replacement kit at HD. I took everything apart and now I cannot get the nut to the bigger gas manifold tube to connect. I don't understand what's going on. 😞 I've tried screwing the cover in place first, I've tried unscrewing it and and connecting the gas manifold tube. It isn't working.
Do not take out or break out the glass and use a lighter... i did that and went to the E.R. last night when it exploded at me.. hand is a little burned up as i type this.. now im back at square one without a sight window..
Your video was great but we still have not had hot water for one month. Please help. The water heater is in the attic. My husband replaced the thermocouple, and the burner assembly. He cleaned the air register. The pilot light will stay on forever when the burner is not on. When you turn the burner on and off the pilot stays lit. But when you leave the burner on both the pilot and the burner goes off after about 15 minutes.
Sorry I can't help without seeing it. But in general if the heater is @10 years old your best bet is to replace. There is a label with the date of manufacture.
do you remember what fixed this? mine is doing the same..have replaced therm, cleaned bottom plate, and removed thermo eco sensor. it seems like an air flow or valve issue now....What do you say?
SAME HERE 🙋 EXACTLY... 🔥Pilot stays on. Burner then is set to desired heat. All is GOOD Pilot & burner after a minute OFF But mine backfires. Tested Everything even the control unit itself, all seems to work. Another Video I saw. POSSIBILITY the Pilot needs to be bent closer to burner. Not much just a little. EITHER WAY PLEASE HELP
Dont know but I would think a valve would be a little pricey and these residential water heaters are fairly cheap new. And water heaters only last an average of 10 years , so my advice is just leave the manual valve in place unless yours is faulty.
This fix won't last, there's something wrong with the flame, the flow of air is not going up correctly, you can tell by the shape and color of the flame and the black soot build up seen in the beginning of this video.
Should the burner constantly stay on or does it turn off and on as needed? My burner stays on but turns off after it seems the tank is full just not sure though.

Thank you - it worked and we have hot water again today. Part is still under $10 bucks at Home Depot.
I've got the same waterheater. Thanks for this video. I got it to light twice now over a couple days, but for $10 I'll change the thermalcouple.
Thank you for this video! Because of your awesome video I just use sand paper and sand around the thermal coupler and it work. thank you
This voids your warranty if you have one. But if you are past date this is a great way to save money!
Once you get the pilot lit. 🔥 Any ideas why the burner isn’t firing up though?
What about the "gasket" mentioned on the face of the cover plate? Does it have to be replaced//repaired when removing the plate?
The one on my cover plate seemed just fine. And any replacement was not going to be as good as the factory install the way I figure it.

Is there a pressure read out on yours? Mine is 30.yr.s old.

Thank you very helpful
It’s pretty much a high temperature shut off center if you remove it it won’t shut off at high temps as It usually would

I don't know exactly what you have but sometimes gas fittings are left handed threads try going the other way
Did you Get it Fix
I never saw one like that. Why would they doo that arrangement? What a pain.
U just removed it to clean it? I just suck a wet rag in an cleaned it.

My pilot light lights but main wont start
Could be a bad valve or clogged burner.
Can I replace the mechanical gas valve with a digital one?

I think he just wanted hot water at 5 AM.
How can the air flow be fixed then?
Bummer.
Should the burner constantly stay on or does it turn off and on as needed? My burner stays on but turns off after it seems the tank is full just not sure though.
I'm pretty sure it fires when it needs to but you should see a pilot light on all the time through the little glass window
The burner runs to heat the water tank when it gets to the temperature of the thermostat the burner goes out and the pilot then lights back up
Great video
10 bucks help me help man. and im like u hear on utube. ty in advance im know its only few minutes in but im hopefull
