    Put your hands up if you remember spending days rouging, wild oats in my case, when I was an Ag student. 😏. This was back in the late 70's. Happy days, I knew no better back then.

      Absolutely and they still do this on some farms.

      I remember back in 1977 hand rogueing Wild Oats from a crop of Dredge Corn.(a mixture of Oats and Barley) grown for home milling for stock feed. After getting your eye in it was relatively easy to spot the Wild Oats from the normal oats. The Wild Oats came in the seed corn. We kept the straw from that field separate from the other fields at harvest. This eliminated a potential Wild Oat problem on our farm.

    I can't understand why aren't the big agriculture companies not developing a genetically modified wheat that is roundup ready like soybeans maize and cotton that can be sprayed with roundup without damage to the crops

      @Glenn Lingard so basically Monsanto got the stick from the greenies as usual mention genetically modified crops and people thinks it's a bad thing

    You need to bring some sugar beet along also for the kids to cover off the sweet ingredient in the Jammie Dodgers!

      If it was in season I would, any odd roots kicking around the beet pads are wizened up now.

    Another top-notch video. You are to be commended for the effort and time you take to pass on your enthusiasm for agriculture to the youngsters, they are, after all, the future. The black grass seems to be a constant battle, it must take a lot of effort to keep it at a somewhat manageable level. I can't believe the effect it has on the yield, that's a serious potential financial loss. That must've been some whack you gave your thumb....... No doubt some colourful language too! All the best to you & your crew.

      I’m going to go through our blackgrass policy in another update. I trapped my thumb in the rear door of a Range Rover 2 Sundays ago. It was fully shut so had to open the door to get it out! Rhonda and I had been picked up to go out for Sunday lunch so wasn’t driving. It hurt a lot more when the bottle of Malbec wore off!! 🤦‍♂️

    Do u not think combine makers should have option to keep small seeds in separate tank rather than spreading out back ,keeping weed seeds going

    Always a pleasure andrew! The children were really engaged and couldnt wait to get there hands in those trays! The beans havent done to bad considering its pretty dry! I did a summer for trial company crop technology! many years ago it was really interesting how they managed the plots and the different trials with in the plots! That drone was really impressive! It cost the same as my pick up😂

    Hi Andrew. As an irish livestock and small tillage farmer I am curious about your black grass strategy. Rather than glyphosate if you were to make wholecrop silage for livestock feed or for a digester before the seed is viable do you think it would work. Blackgrass not a problem around here yet but it's coming.....😢

    How often does wheat come in the rotation? Here wheat is black grass number one friend. It seems to appear less with other crops

    • @WardysWaffleAndrewWard
      @WardysWaffleAndrewWard  Год назад +5

      I’ll go through our blackgrass story in detail in a week or 2. Until then, I divided all fields into traffic light groups. The red ones never grow wheat until they move into the amber category. One lots of fields this year are in wheat the first time for 9years. If you’re intent on getting rid of bg, you cannot grow winter wheat for a number of years.
