Craziest SANDBAR In The WORLD!

  • -Season 2 : Episode 45-
Cape Point out in Buxton, NC is one of the most special places in the world. From a right point, to a left point, to A-Frame shorebreak wedges... It is one of the most rare of waves when it sets up just right, because even then it is usually short lived. Cape Hatteras is shaped the way it is, along with the pinnacle of Cape Point, due to the Labrador Current and Gulf Stream current colliding directly offshore.
Is there a more dynamic sandbar in the world?!

Namibia doesn’t change... it’s always a left Point. Special for sure, and possibly the most special for it’s length of perfect tubes, but my point about Cape Point is how dynamic it is and the different types of waves it can create.

Magical Place for sure, I almost lost my truck out there one evening when admiring the stars with friends and not paying attention to the tide. The bar went out and hooked south, as the tide came in it nearly cut us off on Shellie, long before it was named such. Love the Rats Nest shot at 9:20 ha ha. Love your Channel, Love Buxton.

Nice! I used to surf/live in Wilmington and took an OBX trip once and surfed right near here. even for slop I had a great time! I haven't had much time on the islands but about 15 years ago my buddy took me to shack during a coming hurricane swell. That's when I knew East Coast was very legit. :) thanks for the content it's keeping my landlocked Hype very high for more trips. :)

From the aerial view with the left's going off, I was thinking, with a good setup on a powerful hurricane swell the left off that thing could be like, skeleton bay comes to Braxton. The possibilities look as endless as the sandbar is elusive. Thanks Bret...i dub it mystery point. How many names do you guys have for it? Ok one more thing I just noticed is if you go on Google earth and pan in and then out, you can see that on the entire East coast of North america, the hugest vertical wall of the continental shelf is by far the closest to land at cape hatteras. Which means mysterious and spooky things and the raw power of nature.

Similar in shape somewhat, but not dynamics at all. South Point in Ocracoke only faces one direction, and collects one type of swells.
Cape Point is the corner turn between the East facing beach and South facing beach of Hatteras Island, so It accepts over 270 degrees of swell direction
