I hope they never discontinue Antaeus Pour Homme. It’s difficult to get the vintage, but even the current is ok. It’s so unlike other men’s fragrances nowadays. Most men’s fragrances today have that common aqua or citrusy smell, targeted at young men. Antaeus is a mature men’s fragrance. Very unique in my opinion. Especially the vintage.
I’m 35 and really want a no nonsense masculine smell signature scent would this be one you would recommend, tired of these metroxxx colognes if you know what I mean
Hands down in the top five best mens perfumes ever created..
Its a winner, isnt it?!
@@dimitrisorceryofscent ..definitely mate..the honey note works magic on my skin..beautiful stuff
I got my first bottle back in 1981 when it first came out. The version back then was quite different from today’s version. More darker, richer, and sexier. Today’s Antaeus is lighter, with a bit of a citrusy vibe that I don’t like. I wish they didn’t change it. That’s why I’m looking for the 80s version again.
Hello, I also would love to have a vintage version, but there is always the risk that the smell has changed because of aging... Imagine spending a good amount of money and them the smell is gone. Dua Fragrances claim to have reformulated the original version, the call it "Blast from the past". Maybe this is worth a try...
@km-yx8vl its a risk most are willing to take, as Ive never heard of anyone who has ever procured a bottle of Antaeus that had "gone off". If anything, the extra maceration improved it.
@@dimitrisorceryofscent Ok, thanks, good to know...!
I have just bought a vintage, incredible timing
Great work. Ambrosial stuff! ✨️
@Rich Mitch Is it much better than the black sprayer version?
@@closetome imo yes
@@RichMitch
Hey Rich, from which year is your silver sprayer Antaeus ?
I wore this when it first came out, following on from wearing Pour Monsieur. It was a love straight away, to me it smells like the colour of the box. It's funny to hear now it being termed as old fashioned, for me back then it was just the latest thing to wear just as Jacomo de Jacomo, Jules and Kouros were. I moved on to whatever was the latest that I felt suited me, never giving a thought they would be changed or disappear.
Interesting that the bottle style for Antaeus has never changed unlike other Chanel fragrances. Over the years there has been reformulations a true early 80's will have the fragrance type over the Chanel name with Paris below. No bar code and for European release no London W1 post code on the rear of the box, this denotes late mid 90's along with a reformulation. The slight medicinal note in the mid has gone. Fortunately some early 80's are out there, usually in markets where Antaeus wasn't so successful ( Far East etc). Check for Silver atomiser and cap end. Also the embossing on the bottle of the bottle for the genuine article along with correct PM marking for bottle size.
All being said the current version is still a nice wear, it just doesn't have the multiple stages as the original.
All great additional markers for IDing those rare flacons. Thanks for weighing in! 👌✨️
I have worn this since 1984 and still wear it every day at 49 years old 💪
Youre the same age as me, and man you started early! 🙌
Wow, you started wearing Antaeus For Men when you were a 10 year old boy?
Hello can you tell me please whats the differences old and new batches. Which one do you like? Which is more quality For you?
Nice outfit, Dimitri!
It seems that I’m not really into the 80s powerhouse fragrances. But Antaeus is one of the better ones
Why thank you!
Yes not all 80s hravy hitters are for everyone but Chanel's Antaeus stands a head and shoulders above many others of the same ilk.
I have my 50 ml bottle that I bought back in 2019 (with black spryer so recent formulation) and I am happy with it. My wife finds it dated though. With 1-2 hours of projection and 6 hours of longevity it just acts like an eau de toilette. Doesn't like too cold or too hot weather. By the way, its deo stick still includes oakmoss so I purchased. The difference is that deo stick smells dark resinous. If early 80s bottles smell similar to today's deo stick, then I am not keen on seeking for a vintage bottle. The present Antaeus is just good for me. I don't find similarities with Zino. I like Antaeus but I love Zino but opposite to Antaeus, recent Zino is very week in performance. So, I advise to seek for vintage bottle.
Ive not tried the deo and would be interested to experience the nuance it brings to the Antaeus universe.
I have the modern and Chanel takes care of their fragrances for the most part. I was fortunate enough to acquire a 100 ml of the Sport Cologne. And it's outstanding to say the least ✌🏻
They really do; and congrats on securing that rarity 🖤
Gotta get my nose onto this one mate........ My dad's signature scent is Pour Monsieur which I love on him 😎...... Absolutely loving your channel btw 🔥
Thanks Sharpie! Sounds like Dad's taste is as good as your own. Antaeus definitely has presence, and I reckon you can pull it off! 👌
used it on of since 1990, it's the one I always comesback to
Love this one even tho mine is more modern, haven't tracked down and old version yet. I would imagine the castoreum has been dialed way back or replaced by some captive because I get mostly the labdanum in the base. I still love it nevertheless.
Yes old and new Antaeus are great, and you're right; I feel the castoreum has been switched out for a 2020s friendlier leather accord.
Just subscribed, nice video. Have you got your nose on New York Dark Antaeus, basically splash / twist cap . Boxes and bottles don’t say Paris anywhere. It’s Ahhhhmazin
New York Dark Antaeus? Ive not heard of. Do you mean Antaeus produced in NY?
@@dimitrisorceryofscent yes 👍. The 1981 bottles came NY/ Ny with a screw off atomizer! As splashes were so popular at that time . I have 2 NY bottles , Ahhhhmazin experience
Not sure if they were produced in NY … but neither box or bottles have any foreign or Paris indications
Ive have the screw off EDT and it is excellent. Mine reads PARIS NEW YORK
@@dimitrisorceryofscent , that’s awesome, it’s a spray cap ? …. Im trying to Learn as much as possible about these Antaeus… still seams like a loose hypothesis
How many sprays of this would you use mate
Probably no more than 2. 3 in the right situation if I need to make a commanding impression.
One on the arshole
love anteus! i hv the newer version and it's not quite potent as it used to be but still love it! Not for everyone though.
Definitely not for everyone
balls bigger than Ben-Hur :P great review Dimi. Thanks for sharing as always
Haha! Thanks Grace! X
Great information. If the word Eau De Toilette appears above the word Chanel on the box, is it likely vintage Antaeus? I have an unopened box of Antaeus that has those words above the Chanel name on the box. Because I haven’t opened the box, I don’t know if it’s on the bottle as well. Does it have to be both on the box and bottle? Or is mine most likely on the bottle too? I don’t want to open the box just yet.
If its on the box, its likely on the bottle. ✨️
@@dimitrisorceryofscent much appreciated
I’d love to get hold of the sports vintage for my workouts
I am a huge fan--great review.
I love Zino, too!
Thanks Eric; bet you wear it well!
@@dimitrisorceryofscent When I first smelled Antaeus all those years ago (at Bullock's Wilshire, as it happens) I loved it but felt it was too old and mature for me--same thing when I first smelled Zino at their shop in Jermyn Street. Now they fit me like a favorite pair of old shoes. Funny how we age into things....
@@ericmiller2556 Absolutely. I often wonder if its our skin/chemistry that changes, or if its our nose that changes, or even perhaps only our cognisance or perception that changes. 🤷🏻♂️
Lost attraction why ? Because they changed the formula and nowadays it smells like a sxxt ! That is why. It is the same as Drakkar Noir. It is sad
Just a question. So do Vintage versions of Antaeus have the silver nozzle and not the black nozzle?
Not all of them.
The best way to determine vintage from "vint-ish" is the letter placement as per my video.
Do you know what it means if the bottle says Purifiant? Some of the 19ml bottles say this instead of Eau De toilette.
Of Antaeus? One would expect an ancillary product like a toner.
Thanks, you are a gentleman.@@dimitrisorceryofscent
Hello , i'm always scared of buying vintage fragrance because i'm afraid that when i do run out of the vintage, the new formulation would be too different or really watered down
Few days ago i found a vintage antaeus with the silver atomizer but with the "eau de toilette" writing on the bottom which is not the most vintage version.. but still is not the modern formulation
Is the old version that much better compared to the new one?
I regard it as far superior... the animalic notes have had the benefit of several decades to macerate and components such as Sandalwood, use the glorious Mysore of old. ✨️
@@dimitrisorceryofscent i see , then by your opinion should i go for the vintage first?
@@powdmizu6379 if you have the option to do so, then yes, IMO.
@@dimitrisorceryofscent all right ! Cheers 🎉
modern antaues is rubbish
