Authentic knife of the period... that style goes way back to the mediaeval era. That's one of the best restorations I've seen of one of those. I love my modern reproduction of one of these knives. Simple and very handy. That one of yours has been rendered useful once more. 👍
Thought this was a straight razor till you opened it up. Straight razors have blunted tips so you don't poke yourself while shaving. I believe this is what you'd call a friction folder.
> "Restoration" > uses a Dremel, wirewheel, belt sander, etc > sands and buffs the blade I suggest "molestation" or "modification". Not "restoration". This is wholly inappropriate for antiques. Removing corrosion products is somewhat required for ferrous artifacts, like the blade, as they do not form a stable or sacrificial oxide layer, but you never want to damage the underlying steel. Beyond that, the handle is copper alloy. It does not need to be treated so severely. The oxide layer on it will not progress infinitely like corrosion on a ferrous artifact. To readers of comments: if you own an antique weapon, DO NOT copy this method, or anything like it. This is destructive.
@ReXtorer @ReXtorer you used a steel wire brush on a dremel on a steel object. The fact that it polishes the surface should tell you that it is removing and altering the surface of the knife. You also used several either carbide, diamond or hardened steel attachments to remove localised portions. This is extremely inappropriate. This is equivalent to drilling.
Thank you! I understand that it is necessary to remove rust more carefully, but objects from aggressive soil and even weeks of being in a solution of caustic soda do not give results.
Another great job! I’m so glad that you keep the original blades on the knives, etc., that you restore. Keep the soul of the item.

I think it's a straight razor. I could be wrong, though.

Good job well done 👍
Hey, mein Freund!

@@ReXtorer another example of using a dremel and wire wheel attachment. Wholly inappropriate.
I used a dremel to remove the remaining rust. The metal was not processed.
