  • I suspect that I received a counterfeit from AliExpress. I am comparing AliExpress order vs. Amazon order. If I hear back from Shimano, I will give an update! Hopefully they'll take the ones that I am suspecting are counterfeits and do their assessment!
If you want to watch the bearings, watch this video starting at 3:15 (It's in Korean though): • *주의* 시마노 105 짝퉁페달이 유통 ...

    1. Model numbers on the manuals. PD-R7000 is fairly new.

Your video helped me tremendously. Big thanks! I wonder if the reason why the real Shimano ones are heavier is because of the high quality ball bearings inside the pedals. Would be nice to see the ball bearings inside, but taking the pedals apart requires a special tool.

I have genuine pedals which weigh 125g lol. A 3% difference in weight is no indication that they're fake; even Shimano themselves tell you that there is up to 5% weight variability either way. The only scam here is this video tbh

Thanks for posting this. Chanced across this video after searching for information on how to spot fake 105 pedals. Bought one of the imitations myself from a local platform which allows listings from mainland Chinese vendors, and its exactly as you described. Rust inside the spindle, lower quality/rough finish, no clicking when turning tension adjustment. Threads on mine didn't screw into the cranks as smoothly as the originals as well. That said they're pretty good imitations. Pretty hard to detect if you're a first time user since they technically work. However I guess the biggest clue is the price - if its too good to be true, beware!

I bought a fake shimano pedal R7000 which i rode about 2.000 km. Two problems that i had: the pivot that makes the back part move backwards in order to clip fell off from its fit, it's a pressfit pivot, not a threaded one (i don't know if it's the case in the orginal one). I managed to fix it tho by removing the pivot and adding some good quality glue into the role where it fits, no problem until now. The second problem that i still have is that it doesn't spin freely, my mecanic said that it's due to an internal rubber ring that prevents, dirty from coming in, he tried to make an internal spacer in order to make it spin correctly, but he couldn't do that cause it would not have enough space to lock the main thread. It's a pain in the all trying to clip when the pedal is always in a different position. The best thing is buying legit, unfortunately that's not possible for most of people.

The only evidence of fake is the clicking sound you get when adjusting the tension. And that's not conclusive.
I have boxed shimano PD-RS500 SPD-SL Pedals. Purchased from a reputable German bike shop . I tried two boxes. Out of the 4 pedals 3 click quite audibly and one was on the quiet side, but still clicked nicely.
So thanks for the video. I will check my order from Ali express carefully when it arrives. Purchased 105 PD R7000. Seller has excellent reviews, and answered my questions well. So I'm confident still they will be genuine.

This week I changed the worn out cleats to new ones, and found it difficult to clip in. Then I took it out for service and googled again about fake pedals and found your video. QB could be for quarter backs? But American footballers don’t use bike shoes, do they?
    Or
QB could also be quarter bar? 62.5g? 😆
Either way these look pretty legit until 3:33.
I would have removed the piece of card from the pedal, maybe that’s the 2-3 gram difference. Additionally, those scales are accurate to 5 grams (although they measure in 1 gram increments) so 123/4 would indicate 125 and 125/6 might indicate 130 on the scales, but when you weighed the pair they were not 260?
I’m curious to see by the end of this video…
I ended up here because I saw an ultegra pair of pedals on Ali Express for 65% under the ‘expected’ price but those don’t even say ultegra on the side of them however yours are either real, or proper fakes as they look identical. By proper I don’t mean legit. I mean proper counterfeit / copy / scam, fakes.
