tmntsuperhiros I think that while you make a valid point, overall, Asian men are less represented in the media, and when they are, generally speaking, they are forced into a role typically assumed by Asians (like the geeky math nerd) and aren't given as many opportunities to play the "sexy and rugged" leads that are generally given to White Males. So while there may be not "attractive" white males, they are still given more opportunities that your "not attractive" Asians wouldn't be given.

This was such an important video for me to watch! I am East African and I too feel like I fall in the same kinda idea of dating struggle you all may have experienced. This topic hits home mainly because it’s difficult for groups to see how attractive someone is if they fall into the average amongst their race. Thank you for openly speaking about this important topic for Asian men to feel more empowered and heard. I think Kpop will have a big impact and things of that nature. I also want to put it out there that it is okay for Asian men to look at other minority people as beautiful too! Because while we are saying they are not featured as sexy in the white culture, can they be sexy in others too? Thankfully I am fortunate enough to have grown up in a heavily diverse community where I truly can see all beauty in many forms.

I used to be influenced by what I saw in the media as a child and thought that all white men were handsome and attractive. However, when I moved to Australia, I have found that white people can be this, can be that in terms of beauty. Now I realize that not so many people are extraordinarily handsome and sexy regardless of races

I think part of it is what was talked about at the tail end of the video -- many of the people writing these asian characters into the film aren't asian and that has an impact on how asians in general are portrayed. The obvious thing is that we need asian actors in asians roles and for that to be more common. The less obvious thing needed, is people who will do them justice in writing the screenplays and scripts.

One thing I’ve observe about Asian-American men in America is that the majority aren’t so attractive. However, if you go to East and South East Asian native land. That’s where you can find attractive Asian men. It is due to where men are also embodied with taking care of themselves like using skincare products and dressing neat.

The simple answer is the western media portrayal of Asian men as nerds, geeks and something of a comedic relief. On the flip side, go watch Korean and Chinese drama (I especially love wuxia series) there are tons of hot Asian men (no homo) in leading roles. There is a prerogative in western media to exclude good looking Asian men and only portrays the average to below average ones.
My first major crush was on an Asian guy, and I've found them attractive since then. It's a shame they get overlooked in TV or film.

for the most part asian men in east asian countries tend to take care of their looks more. there's more pressure there to follow fashion trends than there is here in america for asian america men.

I see so many comments here bringing up EXO or BTS, but that is not what your average asian looks like.
The average asian gets around, is complimented occasionally, but still feels largely undermined. Lets face it, we live in a world where 'white' physical features are subconsciously programmed within us to be desirable, the blue eyes, the jawlines, the hair, we all want to be in a place we aren't, so why shouldn't we feel bad? What really makes a man sexy, is his body language, his confidence, his style, his grace, his warmness and his individuality. It's alright to rate physical attractiveness at the back of your minds, but there comes a point where this thin filter of attractiveness tears off once you get to know a person, to see the world through his/her eyes, to live another story for a short period of time, and THAT is what prevails in the end.
Since when did ´´world´´ mean only America? They are basing their opinions off AMERICAN values and culture. Referring only to how AMERICAN (and little bit of Indian) media portrays asians, without any regard to actual asian countries where typical asian traits are valued more. I do agree that other traits than aesthetics should be the basis of judging attractiveness, but in the end it´s just a subjective opinion who all of us have.

But a lot of the time people even stay away from features which are usually considered with whites. ESPECIALLY in South USA where there are a lot less white heritages. I never really paid attention to this issue until I started dating a Chinese man. People constantly tell me he's "handsome for being Asian" or well "Asian men are your type".
Comments like this are so offensive! My boyfriend is handsome because he's handsome and a good man. I adore him and race has nothing to do with it.
I put off telling my parents for months I had a boyfriend when I introduced him my parents were in shock and the next day they were arguing over what race he was instead of asking me questions like what does he do, where is he from, etc. If we were the same race the conversation would be different.

This is actually very true. I see so many comments saying "oh but have you seen Eugene or BTS?" Like they are attractive BUT what about the other "average" looking Asians? I speak for all average Asian males when I say this. You people do not get how hard it is to find people who genuinely find you attractive when you are an "average" looking Asian. To be an "attractive" asian, you have to have 1. European Characteristics or 2. Be very muscular. Majority of Asian men don't look like that and that puts us in a whole separate world where people constantly put us down.
Being a gay Asian is a whole different story. Guys will only find you attractive if you're muscular or if you're a submissive bottom
A lot of average Chinese men in China got very beautiful Caucasian wives. This was shown in many tv programs in China, and in many of such cases, the white women went after the Chinese men.
For example, there was an Ukrainian woman modelling in China. She saw a man performing magic show and at the end of the show, she went backstage to ask for his phone number. He didn't understand English and she motioned with her hands indicating that she wanted his number, then took his phone and downloaded an apps for translation. In less than a month they were married.

As a caucasian woman, you are wrong. Many people are actually attracted to different characteristics than their own race. Sure, muscles are a bonus, but they need to look good for your body type. You don't need to look like a cloud or anything, just well-defined. To many women, too muscular can be a turn-off. Healthy and fit is the way to go. :)

The thing is, even if you are extremely genetically unlucky (which few people are), your grooming habits, fitness and character can make a huge impact on attractiveness. Good posture shows confidence and succes, good grooming and fitness maximise your attractiveness, and it signals that you can take good care of yourself (and potentially others), which is highly attractive and inheritable traits. Many guys think being rich is important, but it is more attractive to be financially responsible and succesful. Being rich creates a safety-net for bad times, but being financially smart can help you make the most of what you have, even in bad times, which is a very positive trait in a family unit.
The only disadvantage asian men really have is their height. Men are often attracted to shorter women, and women are often attracted to shorter men. Again, this is biological instinct, not an attempt to be cruel to someone else. :) Even an average guy can look very attractive, if he takes good care of himself, in all areas of life, and work on both his appearance and his character. Eugine might be genetically blessed, but he is also doing his best to maximise his potential.

It's exactly what they said in the video. Average white males are still seen as attractive. And, in media, they are always paired with insanely attractive women. But men like these K-Pop artists are not the best representative of the average asian male, so you can't really compare. Just like Sofia Vergara, Shakira and Selma Hayek, for exemple, aren't the best representatives of the average latina woman. We are "trained" to perceive all types of white people as attractive, but only certain types of other ethnicities as attractive.

I visited korea and I could see good looking men and women in the subway, in the streets, in coffee shops, everywhere. They didn't look like idols (some do tho) but many were good looking for real.
i live in korea. i think it has to do with a higher pressure on people to appear nice and attractive physically. make up or the way they dress. ppl just dress better here because of that pressure.

I am an Asian man, come on Asian fellows, although the height might be something hard to work on, hit the gym, stop dressing so tacky or childish, man up and speak up, have a clean hair cut, learn how to be funny, learn how to talk smart, learn how to walk and look confidently. Arguing or debating here can't get you any woman, some girls are just being nice not to tell you the truth. Be brave enough to admit your downsides and fix them. Be honest to yourself, you know what you don't have, just work on it. You don't need people to feel bad for you and comfort you, strive for what you want. Make a change!

I realised the only chance most asian men (90%) have nowadays in the western worlds are either asian women or kpop anime fangirls. that is fact and it really sucks. I mean look at them most of them have a babyface, small nose, no facial hair, the eyes etc. somehow most kpop fangirls share similar traits which can be abit irritating sometimes. no offense. Here in central europe asian men have stick to such kpop fan communities, because that's the only place the get the most attention. outside of it you only deal with instant rejection or they are not even looking at you. even though for being above average looking. It is really because of Asian traits and look.

If you are a girl who likes a shy Asian guy, the best way to approach him is to invite him to "friend" activities, but you and him carpool together to those activities or somehow you two end up alone together. At some point, when you two are together, you hug him to let him know you like him more than as just a friend. You don't have to verbally say anything. Often the shy guy doesn't know how to react when you say something directly and he might say something hurtful out of nervousness/shyness even though he really likes you. This was interesting and I didn't really think about it like that until this video. Tbh idk why society does this. There's attractive men in all races. In my opinion everyone is sexy in their own way. I'm white and I've found men sexy in various races including Asian men. I don't have a preference. If I'm attracted to you then I'm attracted to you. Never been with an Asian men before but if I wasn't married and in the dating scene I would be open to it. I don't think Asian men get enough attention in society in a good way, and that's really sad.

Asian people you gotta make average Joe stories and the rest of you all gotta support it because being a regular American. I would love to watch more Asian stories in all sorts of formats because I feel the parts of America that are open minded and not ignorant are starting to outnumber ignorance in general.
I think the K-Pop thing has kind of hurt the average Asian male because the idols are incredibly gorgeous, almost unbelievably so, and when someone actually meets an average Asian they're so disappointed. I think the people who are talking about K-pop in the comment section are either ignoring the video and what it means or know they're telling the truth but are in denial about the fact not all Asian men look like K-pop stars.

People see stars like Beyonce and Rihanna or really attractive black women in videos or on social media and expect all of them to look like that. The average " black women" is sometimes left in the dark. I not saying people don't find many black women attractive, but sometimes because of media they expect too much and the "average black women or man" at that get passed by. I am also not comparing the two or anything, I just wanted to put this out there. Media can build and knock down. Please don't hate on me.
