i have a 2006 Road Star Silverado that looks just like it. paint is the same, bags are a little different. it has been sitting for a few years and needed some maintenance. i took it to the stealer to have a carb rebuild and stock pipes put back on. i don't wrench very well. i didn't have the steering checked. it does the "flop" and pulls hard to the left when taking a tight turn to the left. think i need the bearing replaced or tightened. thanks for doing the video on the Yamaha.

I just recently bought a 2000 RoadStar and first thing I did was to adjust the steering bearings because the steering felt weird, just like your first test ride! It needed a little preload, but the bearings were good, with no binding or roughness. If I was to change the bearings, I think I would try heating up the headstock with a heat gun as much as possible without damaging the paint to help remove the outer race, then put the new ones in the freezer/oven as required to provide the best chance to get them on easily. It is surprising how much it helps with a transition fit like that!

They do make a driver for the races, the whole set is relatively cheap and makes it quick and easy

I used the old race to hammer in the new ones and it worked with no issues.

the neck races have to be completely bottomed out or the front will keep loosening up, freezing the races ease installation i even froze the lower tree so i wouldnt have to pound the bearing down so hard over the stem, theres a preload on the bearings, somewhere around 12 ft pounds i believe

Great videos. I am new to the Yamaha Road Star. I have a 2005 RS Midnight Star Silverado
Do you have any videos on replacing the fuel filter on the Road Star? If so, can you please share the link or can you tell me where the fuel filer is located?

    Hey Veronee,
I have a 2005 Roadstar and did a LED light upgrade but can not seem to find any videos on how to take the brake light apart to change the bulb. 2005 style does not have any screws in the lens cover. I see 1 out of 3 bolts under the rear fender but a metal bracket covers the top 2 bolts and I can not get to them to loosen it.

Are you for hire friend? Got a 2013 and was hit. She's been sitting for a while due to my being hit. Can't get a shop to even look at it because when my insurance didn't want to pay to get it out of the shop they totalled it.

Hey Veronee, At 7:35 in this video you mentioned that you are rebuilding your carb because there was gas coming out of your tail pipe. I am having the same problem with my road star. My carb is out right now being rebuilt. I want to understand Why a gummed up bowl make gas come out of the tail pipe and what the potential is for damaging something in the engine with that happening. Do you have a video about that situation?

Sounds like bad coil. But both being bad seems odd. Did you measure across the primary and secondary?

Did your friend Anthony wreck the bike because the steering bearing failed or did the bearing get damaged in the accident?

Rusted and seized from sitting after the accident. Due to years of no maintenance.
