Remember when you look up at the night sky, NIGHTRIDER!⚡⚡
Old school beating new school. Love it! Love the old KZ’s. I have one myself.
Awesome, what do you have?
Kawy Thowy me too
@@chrismoody1342 Great bikes!
Same building a madmax toecutterbike and ride a 74 z1a , early kwakas kick ass
It wasn`t a legitimate race..They were just doing time trials...Both bikes were just practicing for the bracket race later on. There`s no way a ZX14 is going to get beat by a kz/z1r1000..C`mon Jack...Wishful thinking..Your own KZ1197cc bike would do better, but still not legitimately out run a zx14...
I’m a proud owner of 75’ Z1b. All stock except 4/1 header. Their quicker than a lot of folks give them credit for.
Chris Moody I also drag raced a 75 Z1B in 1975-6 in Sydney 12 seconds 1/4 mile 118 mph street tyres and rego
But for God's sake don't show one a bend, hey!!!! Lol.
I totally agree
There`s nothing special about a Z1R and a KZ except for the body work...Both motor`s are 1015cc motor`s..No special cams,valves,porting,etc... This pass was just a time trial and no dial in`s were shown so the sport bike was most likely just practicing the launch..Theres no way a kz1000 is going to legitimately out run a ZX14, especially the way this z1 sounded..
When I was 13, I picked up a KZ650 out of someone's yard for 50$.
Cleaned the carbs and the usual rituals and went riding, off road.
I found an old knobby for the back at my gmas house in her basement where my dad and his 2 Bros used to work on their race bikes 20yrs earlier.
I took off the extra crap like blinkers and whatnot.
All my buddies had the modern 2 strokes (this was mid 80s)
But when it was fairly flat I'd be right there with em.
Hit the railroad tracks and I was gone ,shooting 30' rooster tails in the air.
She would roost like a big ol 2 stroke.
And the smoke shows out front of my folks house were glorious!
We used to leave so much tire carnage there it looked like a drag strip burnout box.
Good freakin times for sure !!
Old classic still has it
sure does
Ever thought of using the zoom to zoom in as they get to the end of the quarter.
There are up to 1425cc kits not to mention several cam profiles for the old 1000 engine, so this one is clearly a sleeper. Well done anyway.
I remember riding my friend's 1983 Suzuki GS1100E. Those "old" Japanese inline four bikes are no joke. 😁👍
The Toecutter, He knows who I am. I had a '78 Z1R Wiseco 1075 kit, Andrews cams, Barnett Clutch etc
Man that bike was quick!
Dude knows how to ride.
I don't believe it for a second. The ZX 14 was just putting down the track. Old KZ's just aren't that fast, the 14 would totally smoke that bike.
A better rider will always beat a better bike with a lesser rider.
That guy certainly ain't no jockey at the Kentucky Derby.
Im not surprised at all I owned a 1980 kz 1000 st super fast , power at high revs.
Well you surely haven`t rode a new style sport bike..Because otherwise you`d say that the KZ is slow compared to the newer bikes...I know, because I`ve had both..The fastest a stock motored KZ/Z1 is high to mid 12`s..A stock ZX14 ZX12 is mid 9`s to low 9`s..Not even close..
I had a 81 kz1000,
A guy came to town on a z1R, that thing was crazy fast,
Old skool rules 💪😎✌
Nice run
Love that sound.
Just made my old dinosaur look good. 😎💯😎
I hope to one day be able to handle that power.
Right now I got a 1978 kz650.
Nothing wrong with that, I have a '77 that has a 750 motor with an 810 kit and gpz carbs and cams. Makes that little bike a handful indeed. Add some ignition upgrades and the old girl really wakes up.
My Z1-R had a 1198 kit, would run 10.6 et
Ahhh, a street race isn't on a track.
Old school sports bike vs new school sports bike that's the bike that started today's sports bikes
Those superbikes were crazy. I had an 83 Honda Sabre V45 thing could do 120 mphr like nothing, plus several gears waiting to be used. Nuts.
redskinStu I can do that in second gear on my bike!
Bless
I had a 80' Z1R that I use to take down the Carlsbad Drag strip back in 83' it was something to do on a Friday night, before hitting San Diego. Where's this strip at ? The Z1R is pretty quick in the 1/4 stock, but I'm thinking this guy has it punched out to 1150+ cc ? He ran a 12.0 sec 1/4 with my cheap cooking timer if anybody was interested, maybe it is stock ,lol !!
The ZX14 wasn`t racing the z1...He was just practicing his launch for the bracket race the next day...No dial in`s on the scoreboards..
Sweet
🔴 FCK AWESOME.....👍👍🇺🇸🏆
does it matter that the zx14 lifted at about 800ft.?
NIGHT RIDER
powerful z1r!!!!
lol...
If you'll notice, Z1R has a big block on it, nowhere near stock. It surely has many more engine mods in it.
Les Bratton exactly...
seems stock to me , i have one and it looks the same
There is not such a thing as big block or small block on kz series, it probably has bigger pistons but there is no way to tell just by looking at the exterior of the engine.
@@universalpenman On contraire mon fraire, many companies make " Big Block" components i.e. MTC, Wiseco, etc. Enables engine displacememts up to 1500 cc. You must be a newbie to the KZ world.
I have a big block cylinder that has no external designation, appears stock to the untrained eye. It displaces 1327 cc, which is on the "small" side for a big block cylinder application. Cases are bored out to the max.
Ah yes the street race with a grandstand and a triple tree.
We’ll I’ve run 8.9 with my 2012 14r street bike swb with Brocks goodies stock gearing. Just some info.
Man i'd be embarrassed to get smoked by grandpa but he clearly was.
Yeah, but in not too many years you'll be grandpa. Hopefully you'll be embarrassing them young coyotes. It's all a circle.
Hot80s, LMFAO!!! I had a Yoshimura 1105 with 29mm smoothbores, etc. I hope the only GSXR I ever raced liked my tail light design. We raced to almost 150mph, and I saw him only in my buzzing, vibrating mirrors. He was half my age. Next time you think a Grandpa shouldn't be able to do it, go tell George Foreman. Nothing to be ashamed of.....
This ZX-14 guys Bike is running REAL Bad maybe clutch or compression ? That's the only way that Z1R can win even with Nos, I know I had one !! Even still has old school Dunlop K591 tires spinning up !! Lol : D
What do you think happened?
@@cycledrag It was just practice Jack...SERIOUSLY? The ZX14 was just practicing his leave,launch,etc...Or maybe had motor problems..Or just shut off..
That's what they all say. After I put an ass whoopin' on this kid at our strip, he told me how much better his bike ran at a different strip 45 miles away. BIG mistake. Next couple weeks I went to the strip he referred to, and whooped his ass their, too. BTW, his bike didn't run any better there, either!
Building mine now. Bought it in 01 while in school @ m.m.i phoenix az. 75 kz900z1b
That was my first z when i was 20 in 1985 since then ive owned z1000a, z1000 , z1R , and i ride a 74 z1a and building a toecutters z1000a
this is a "street race"?
My brother had one a ZR1 I grew up around bikes anyway he said take it for a ride ive had a few street bikes so lets check it out? I came back about 2 hours later on fumes and said Ive had enough of that shit I would be dead in less than a week.
I had a mate on a gpx750 and i had my z1000a and he bragged how he was gonna blow the doors of me because it was an older bike , i destroyed him and never again did he bag my z
Must have been something wrong with the GPX or the rider, I had a GPX750 that would pulverise your old Z1000a, It was just cleaned up and tuned well, it flew, more HP, less weight.... ps, I ain't bagging the old Z,I love them and i'm currently building a beauty..
Gee,do you think the Z1R is done up..........................otherwise the ZX14 would kick its ass! A stock ZX14 does a quarter in 9.8 the Z1R in 12.6.
Who said the Z1R was stock.
@@lesbratton Hey Les, It wasn't running 9's there, so I'd say that was a practice day, that run didn't look fast at all...
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAA!! , that 14 LET, that Z1 win! -
NICE!
Proud Owner Of 1980 KZ1000 Z1R Stretch, J-Motor, Open Kerker... See My Home Page For Picture.
Don’t Matter What Was Up With The ZX... The K-Zed Took The Win!
Fuk yeah!!
Had nine hitting 145 mph with lots to spare
Two valve beats the four valve.
Isnt the Z1r a turbo bike?
Well....... I'm a old dude, had a KZ 1000,. A guy came to town on a Z1R , we raced and yes, crap blew out his exhaust because of the turbo, so it's weird I don't see videos on here that say anything about that, but yes the ones I knew about were turbo
@@mrterrywatkins I am 65. I think it was 1976 a buddy traded in a KZ900 for a new Z1r, it was blue and had a turbo. The Z in this vid has open carbs.
In the 70s they didnt know how to run turbos yet. And when the turbo was removed from the Z1r they were way down on power probly due to low compression.
A Z1R isnt a Z1R unless the turbo is intact.
Nope, the First US Z1Rs were non turbo. They had a factory 4 into 1 exhaust.
The turbo came later. I have a factory poster to prove it.
@@zman5727
Yep
i want to know what's in the z1r lol
John Good the z1r is a Kawasaki kz1000 did you know Kawasaki used the same exact inline four cylinder motor on the Kawasaki kz1000 and the zx10r and Kawasaki zx6 and kz600 I studied about motorcycles because I had a bike
Garyntara7788 Burbank The only thing in common is that both have 4 cylinders, stop talking bulshit.
its alot to do with the rider not the poser....
+Sebastián Demaría yeah there definitely different but they do have the same bore and stroke. Kawi kept that stroke for a long time. But dude said “same exact inline four cylinder” that’s a fucking stretch and a half
@@GaryntaraBurbank Wrong, Kz's are air cooled, ZX's are water cooled. Big difference between the two. Bore centers are about the only common denominator.
That Kawi was juiced. That long swing arm definitely helped the launch.14 also weighs 60 lbs heavier...
Good race crappy video the least you could have done is zoom in his quarter mile time
"STEET RACE"....
