@@cycledrag I have 3 bikes directly descended from the Z1 in this video. All of them are KZ1000-P. I don't really want anything else. Mind you I also don't race, but if I had the money I could rebuild one to out pace that Z1, just because it's got a larger displacement of a newer version of the engine, the KZ J Model engine.

Man I hate them old school Z1 900s. Back in the day I got real familiar with the taillight of them SOBs. LOL. Nothing could touch them when they came out.
First street bike, '70 H1, peacock grey, cut piston skirts, reed valves, 30mm Mikunis, Denco Killers, Barnett clutch, flat bars and custom seat. Second bike '84 900 Ninja, only 3 passes, ran 10.03 best time. Too much to list, 972 Wiesco kit, Teflon coated skirts, yoshi pipe, Barnett clutch, ruthless porting, emissions block off kit, put it on a radical diet. Much more That bike was my best friend. Kawasaki rocks!

1st class interview and Dustin is a 1st class dude. I'm a an old school Kz guy so I was pull for the kawi. Brought one of the 1st gixxers in 86 so zukes are definitely my 2nd love. Outstanding vid as always. Enjoyed it even though the kz didn't win it all.
I will be honest with you...I was betting on the KZ......because the criteria I've followed was purely beauty, i.e., totally ignored the technical one!!! Good job Jack.

Any race that doesn't have both bikes leaving the gate at the same time, to me, isn't a real race. The light and the finish line are the deciding factors.
Yeah but when you're doing this with cars and your the slower car and there's a Dodge to the Hemi setting online next to you and all you got that 59 station wagon with a 283 2 Barrel and you're more than halfway the license for the Kuda gets to take off it is priceless dude I swear to God it is then when you blow away the Henny Here Comes brother with a big Chrysler Lilo and you blow his ass way too and then everybody comes with her with a Dodge 440 he's got to give you a head start except for the last 2 in of the track and you are top Eliminator for the whole day and when the 2500 bucks that should have gone to the faster cars is breaking Priceless also all you got to do is get an old beer find out what the National Record is on have the engine balanced and blueprinted so it's friends about 2 seconds off the Record and you own the drag strip that day

The box is an engine management system that allows the operator/crew to electronically dial the machine so that they can hit their bracket time consistently removing the human error factor as much as possible. It also allows for quicker reaction times.

@@cycledrag after I watched the video and listened to that one interview with the guy that was explaining his box, I now believe that the boxes on the bikes are there specifically for the start. You can dial your own reaction time out of your reaction. On a bracket tree, pick a bulb that you can time when it wil light, and then coordinate with the box by virtue of you recorded reaction time on the slip and when you grab the throttle on your selected bulb, the box will automatically launch the bike and if you have it all dialed in well you should launch green with as close to a .000 reaction time as possible. On bracket cars the box also controlled the engine management mid-pass so that after a good launch, the engine would cut out for a specified time and pick the throttle back up again so th as t you could hit your dial in time as close as possible. I don't think the box does this for the bikes though. This based on that one interview. Understand that I am by no means an expert, but I believe that is a close approximation to what the box does.

A new no bar bussa is way more flexible today to run multi classes, and your not having to rejet carbs as the temp drops in later rounds plus you have to throw the kitchen sink at the z1 to run supercomp or top gas or a mostly stock internal busa motor. Imo its time for a z1 gs vintage race organization. Way too many good bar bikes now semi retired as its just too costly to goto a event to not be competitive and a great venue to get vintage street bikes a place to run .. again ...

I watch everything you post, I absolutely enjoy your channel. I had a friend that owned a Z1 and I've always thought they were awesome. Like an old friend always would say " Life begins at 200 MPH 😃 I can most certainly admire and respect the Busa and all its done for the sport, but Old School all the way.
@@cycledrag I would use the Busa because there very durable bikes for the street or drag racing. They have a very extensive make up of aftermarket parts that are easy to obtain and install.

Having now read what ‘box’ is, I can not help but wonder how far computers will play in drag a racing and if eventually they won’t be any need for a human at the controls any more at all. I used to drag race motorcycles back in the 70’s and 80’s in the uk, when it was all only about the skill of the rider controlling the engine and gearbox.
Cool race I like both styles but I prefer a drag bike with slick and bars rather than extended swing arm and street tire the Kawasaki would have won if he hadn't sat at the light but cool race
I give respect to that ole school bike, for even trying that race with the busa. But you got a 72+ inch hayabusa with a 2step spraying nitrous and that's the best time. Please tell me he got out the throttle @ the 1/8.
