Daniel G | I hate when they do new songs from artists they have never heard of! Changes the opinion on the artist! Let them go through some old stuff man
To be fair, when Lupe released the song "Dumb it Down" his music at the time wasn't all that complex. Nowadays his lyrics are word vomit Rubik's Cubes.
This song is called Mural because in it's essence it is just that, like an actual mural, given its size and the impact the song will have. It's just his thoughts and words(brush) with no particular order painted on canvas (beat). It's really amazing song to listen to when you go in depth with lyrics and deeper meaning, really reccomend listening to it again and again, it's better with every listen.
Elevators - Outkast Hive - Earl Sweatshirt and Vince Staples Oh My Dis Side - Travis Scott Groovy Tony - ScHoolboy Q Money Trees - Kendrick and Jay Rock
Lupe is a complex lyricist, he works with lots of metaphors, simile's, personification, paradox, double triple & quadruple entendre etc. So it would be a difficult 1st listen also due to the fact that his Albums ( namely Food & Liquor, The Cool, Tetsuo & Youth & DROGAS Wave ) are all conceptual Albums that can take months and years to fully understand meaning one song very rarely does it any justice. MF DOOM & Earl Sweatshirt who you'll have also reacted to are also in the bracket of complex lyricists who are a difficult first listens, you guys just need to listen to more of these types of rappers so you'll can grasp their styles, whereas rappers like Kendrick & Cole who are also great lyricist in their own right have more simplified writing patterns due to the fact that they rely on story telling and creating relatable narratives in their music which are also concept driven.
They didn't exactly start with his easiest track to grasp either though. Something like Daydreamin', Hurt Me Soul or Put You On Game can easily be fairly well understood without spending hours of research.
Oh boy. This will be interesting. Ive never really understood why Lupe fans request THIS song in particular - its amazing dont get me wrong, but as a song to react to? Your lying if you say you understood ANY of this on first listen. Its just not a good song for a react channel. There's just so much other Lupe content id rather see from you guys first, i really hope this doesnt put you off him in the same way accordian did with MF Doom. Edit: Yeah ended up like i thought. Respect for the mature appraoch, but this is not where i would have started with Lupe. Shit i dont think id have ended here either, ive been listening to this song since it came out and im still finding new things in it never clocked before. Please, please do some older Lupe, like Kick Push, or Hurt me Soul. Or even something off the latest album. He's amazing, one of the best to ever do it imho, and id hate for this track to spoil him for you.
Kick push though would genuinely be a good entry point. I don't hate them being thrown into the deep end of lyricism too much. They really have to start getting into some serious rap at some point.
I understand the guy who kept recommending this because I love the song too, but it's not a good first introduction to Lupe like Hurt me Soul, American Terrorist, Intruder Alert or Put you on Game would be. Especially to people that are still relatively new to Hip Hop
This was a really poor choice from fans for a Lupe Fiasco song. The fans need to realize they need to present some of the more accessible songs first because these reactors are often listening to these artists for the first time. What got you into Lupe? Mastadon fans (a prog metal band) always ask for Oblivion first which is like their most complex song and then they are shocked why the reactors don't like/understand it. Listen to Streets on Fire by Lupe.
I like Lupe and this song a lot but whoever recommend this song is an idiot... Or they didn't want these guys to like Lupe. We all know these guys are fairly new in terms of listening to hip hop and with lyricism like this expecting them to understand it is ridiculous. The reaction went exactly how I imagined it would... and the worst part is there are so many better songs to introduce them to Lupe.
Why would yall pick THIS lupe song to recommend them start with? I understand that yall love certain songs by people but you really need to know how to choose good starting point songs for certain artist, for people that have never heard of them. Especially for people JUST getting into hiphop. Lupe Fiasco - The Instrumental will be GREAT! Especially for you rock heads
@@SomethingSeemsOff yo is it me or Everytime steez got on a track with anyone it's like he got a lyricism stat boost, ex- Survival Tactics, Killuminatti, Aprocalypse tracks etc. Looooool
This is hands down the most impressive display of skill in rap I've ever heard. This is a lyrical masterpiece that ultimately doesn't have any place in a video like this.
This reaction and the depths you guys went in to try to understand the lyrics is EXACTLY what Lupe wants and why he writes the way he does. You can listen to this songs 1,000 times and find something new every time.
You know what, I'm in the same boat as him. I could only catch 1 out of 5 lines during the song. Imagine being a reaction channel where people complain if you miss a line.
His new album is amazing, listen to Alan Forever and get up the lyrics on genius and read the description of the song before reacting. Would love to see your reaction to it
Theres a non official music video that has images and subtitles to go along with the lyrics and it really makes this song easier to digest and understand.
You should react to Manilla--Lupe Fiasco, he just released an album called drogas wave and this is imo one of the best songs from it. Edit: or try and listen to something from food and liquor or the cool because it's easier to digest.
Manilla is just barely less complex than this, if I had to recommend a song off Drogas Wave it would be Jonylah/Alan Forever or Happy Tinbuck2 Day just cuz of his flow
Their reaction is priceless. I love that they are literally lost in Lupe's wordplay. If anything, this validates their honesty as reactors, and Lupe's PHD level lyricism.
YES! Still entertaining watching you guys be confused by the song! Big Lupe Fiasco fan here, you guys should listen to "Hurt Me Soul" by Lupe. There's more of a clear thread in that song and would be more digestible for a first time listener of Lupe.
Listen to lupe fiasco - put you on game instead mural is way too complex to listen to for your first lupe song Edit: actually 'the cool' is a great song for a reaction too as it's a storytelling track
There is a lot of levels to the song, racism is the one that is most prominent to me though, about being a black skateboarder in a world full of white skateboarders, and how he had nowhere to go as a black man doing something the world didn't typecast him to do. The song can certainly be interpreted as though it's about pushing drugs too as well though
Calcium But he literally came out and said that it has nothing to do with selling drugs. He then dropped some bars about how he would have made the song if it WERE about selling drugs in the song Piece of paper cup of Jayzus. And that is a really good song as well.
Lupe is the one of the best to ever do it , he is too damn smart for the general population and a lot of his bars and meta go flying over peoples heads. Not all of his tracks are like this he’s just flexing here ... Check wav files about slavery but so many doubles it’s crazy. Also little weapon, hurt me soul , king nas so many songs ..
Lupe Fiasco Mural is like the movie Inception. A dream within a dream, within a dream. Three layers of bars, metaphors and word play. This song will be taught and broke down in schools and universities.
This song is an EXPERIENCE! For me at least. It just paints a picture, it's a lyrical masterpiece in my opinion. I love you guys reaction of just pure confusion. Lupe has that effect on everyone. I could listen to this song all day!
THANK YOU!! been requesting this so long. Also I understand that maybe it's not the best Lupe song to start with, but I've never seen a reaction from people who aren't well versed in Lupe'e work so I thought it would be interesting to see this type of reaction, and I think itll definitely grow on them over time.
Keep that open mind, Jon. I enjoyed your open view on it as someone whos been a fan of Lupe Fiasco since 2006. He is someone to study if you aspire to be what an emcee should exude; Confidence, cadence, rhythm, delivery, flow and charisma. Godspeed.
I'm glad you guys were honest about needing to work your way up to this song. I had been a Lupe Fiasco fan for years by the time the album that this song (Tetsuo & Youth) dropped. My mind was blown to pieces when I first heard this song. That experience will hold a special place in my heart forever. That being said, I am realizing new things hidden in the wordplay TO THIS DAY. There's just so much there.
Lupe is a weird ass genius, he raps about life with ninjas, video games, anime and super hero metaphores Not one of his lines on his more dense tracks (like this) is redundant or simple. He had a concept story called "The Saga of Micheal Young Youth" spread through 2 albums and 7 or 8 tracks, It had charachters named The Game, The Streets and The Cool; on a fukin song he rapped through POV of a cheese burger for fuks sake :X :) One EP it was through using ancient Egypt metaphores. His latest album, he used the POV of "wood", "stars" and "sea" to rap about slavery and the album is concept album about underwater spritis of dead slaves.... Not an easy artist to digest, but worth every single second, after u get all the 4 or 5 meanings of 2 bars that u thought were unrelated, everytime songs punch harder than before.
I told you guys this track would turn Simon's brain to mush. As a life long hip hop fan and Lupe as my favorite rapper, I've been listening to this track for 3 years and I still find new wordplay and metaphors everytime I listen to it. Props for giving it a try. He has tons of more accessible song than this, like anything off his first album food & liquor, which is the album kick, push is from.
as a person who's listened to this song countless times, I would've suggested them to watch the pictorial video where someone made a video of this song in an attempt to make sense of all lupe lyrics. I had my friend first listen to this song using the same method, and it allowed to keep up to some extent and he enjoyed it even though he still somewhat missed a bit. it's impossible for a person to just hear this song and appreciate it, it's just no way. so Rock reacts if you read this comment I recommend looking for that pictorial lyrical video on RUclips, you should see it when you search for this song and give it another listen to help clarify things.
I'd recommend from his early mixtapes for wordplay, Failure. From his main library I would recommend little weapon and bitch bad. He's a very versatile artist with some great work
Prisoner 1 &2 is a good lupe song you can understand and maybe if you feel like your reaction won’t be good, don’t post it lol. Like no one wants to watch you go “I don’t understand “
Or if you feel it's not a good song to react to dont request it. How could you expect anyone to have a good reaction to this song. So much goes over your head on the first listen... And i dare somebody to lie and say they understood everything in this song on their first listen, it's not possible. This is a song you have to listen to a lot to fully appreciate it.
Keenan Nash lots of it is on the fans for expecting a lot however let’s not act like reacting to a song is hard work. Not hard to shoot another video. Post two in a row or something. If you can’t do the song justice, do the artist justice.
I heard this song as soon as the album came out and i still havent completely read through and deciphered for myself every layer of it. With or without Genius. It is undeniably a quintessential, benchmark of a hiphop track.
Really surprised lupe hasn't been done yet on your channel but I'm stoked that you guys brought him on. This song is definitely more of the lyrical breakdown of his talents and skills, not a analytical or meaningful song by any means. It's a tough one to start off on but do songs from "food and liquor"or "the cool" for an easier digestible feel of Lupe. Great video as always, fellas!
Just the way you guys reacted, proves the title of the song is perfect! Murals... a painting of words in the mind, spoken out with the voice as the brush.... For others to listen, admire and study, same as when you go to a art gallery! Just that Lu did it with word play, combine with knowledge!
I appreciate you guys trying. I’ve listened to this song for years and I still find new things to take away from it. So I’ve listened to it over 100x by now. And yeah he is a big video game, anime fan. Haha. Salute
Lol Great Video. I'm a lupe stan, and have listen to mural countless times, and everytime I do I discover something new. Fun fact Lupe himself said he freestyled the second half of this song, which I just find crazy lol.

Woooo Lupe ! edit: yeah this is really a song you have to work up to, from the new album i would heavily reccomend "Wav File", "alan forever" just to name a few of what you might have to react to and hopefully it will hook you more, great reaction though guys and chers for giving him a listen !
Yeah I was definitely surprised to see you guys reacting to this one. I don't even think Lupe fans fully comprehend this one. If you guys come back to Lupe you might try Dopamine Lit off of his latest Drogas Light. Thank you!
I am happy to see that the guy in the hat appreciates the fact that rap is a vessel used to show the limits that you can take the english language to.AND NO ONE .. NO ONE DOES IT BETTER THAN LUPE
A sample of great Lupe songs going from least to most complex: 1. Superstar/ I Gotcha 2. Kick, Push 3. The Instrumental 4. Daydreaming 5. Gotta Eat/ Little Weapon 6. Deliver 7. Dots and Lines 8. Prisoner 1 & 2 9. Adoration of the Magi 10. Mural Thats probably how you work up to appreciating mural more.
For as many requests as there were for this song I think there were almost as many comments saying not to start with this song. 😂 Don't get disheartened by this. You'll love lupe trust me

Mac Miller - 100 Grandkids
No shame in finding this track dense. I swear I've listened to this track 100s of times and I STILL catch things I hadn't noticed before!
I'd recommend from his early mixtapes for wordplay, Failure. From his main library I would recommend little weapon and bitch bad. He's a very versatile artist with some great work
LOVE THIS CHANEL. Finally after all my requests you got around to some lupe, and its the song i requested. love u guys
Prisoner 1 &2 is a good lupe song you can understand and maybe if you feel like your reaction won’t be good, don’t post it lol. Like no one wants to watch you go “I don’t understand “
lovve that song
Or if you feel it's not a good song to react to dont request it. How could you expect anyone to have a good reaction to this song. So much goes over your head on the first listen... And i dare somebody to lie and say they understood everything in this song on their first listen, it's not possible. This is a song you have to listen to a lot to fully appreciate it.
no where near the level of mural
I agree that Prisoner 1&2 is good, but they might be afraid to do another 8 min song... maybe something like Hurt me Soul, the cool, or something else
React to Joey bada$$ ft Capital STEEZ - Survival tactics
Really surprised lupe hasn't been done yet on your channel but I'm stoked that you guys brought him on. This song is definitely more of the lyrical breakdown of his talents and skills, not a analytical or meaningful song by any means. It's a tough one to start off on but do songs from "food and liquor"or "the cool" for an easier digestible feel of Lupe. Great video as always, fellas!
Yeah, starting with something by Lupe like 'Deliver' might have been better for you to react to.
This song is just Lupe showing off with wordplay. Totally understandable that you weren't grabbed by it.
Just the way you guys reacted, proves the title of the song is perfect! Murals... a painting of words in the mind, spoken out with the voice as the brush.... For others to listen, admire and study, same as when you go to a art gallery! Just that Lu did it with word play, combine with knowledge!
I don’t think Simon really wanted to be here today
I appreciate you guys trying. I’ve listened to this song for years and I still find new things to take away from it. So I’ve listened to it over 100x by now. And yeah he is a big video game, anime fan. Haha. Salute
Listen to Alan forever or jonylah forever from his new album but get the backstory of jonylah Watkins and Alan kurdi first.
Lol Great Video. I'm a lupe stan, and have listen to mural countless times, and everytime I do I discover something new. Fun fact Lupe himself said he freestyled the second half of this song, which I just find crazy lol.
Earl Sweatshirt- WHOA/ Hive
Kendrick Lamar- Blacker the Berry
XXX- Riot
J. Cole- Fire Squad
Drake- Lord Knows
Lil Wayne- Let the Beat Build
Kanye- Heartbreak
Logic- Dead Presidents III
Take Your Pick (DAY 5)
6:35 Rain Man A shaman and or "Medicine Man" Was Known as a Rain Man often coordinating the "Rain Dance" to bring Precip for various reasons but moreover bringing messages from their spirits to help coordinate their daily lives(Much like a modern-day Weatherman, woman/person) Hence the Hover above the clouds bridge into that Rhyme scheme without ever actually saying the word, But the dude in the hat is Right to the most extent about the whole gist (in my head) except for what his friend needed the most Right there...... Rain Man.
ok but now you have to react to Lupe Fiasco's "Dumb It Down"
Woooo Lupe !
edit: yeah this is really a song you have to work up to, from the new album i would heavily reccomend "Wav File", "alan forever" just to name a few of what you might have to react to and hopefully it will hook you more, great reaction though guys and chers for giving him a listen !
Adoration of the Magi is the best song off that album
I love yalls reaction to this! Just trying to decipher Lupe's songs is half the fun of it!
Honestly this is an amazing song, but terrible intro into Lupe FIasco. In my opinion a far to complex song for a first time listener.
Yeah I was definitely surprised to see you guys reacting to this one. I don't even think Lupe fans fully comprehend this one. If you guys come back to Lupe you might try Dopamine Lit off of his latest Drogas Light. Thank you!
Do Hurt Me Soul or Daydreamin
I am happy to see that the guy in the hat appreciates the fact that rap is a vessel used to show the limits that you can take the english language to.AND NO ONE .. NO ONE DOES IT BETTER THAN LUPE
You should watch the video explanation for Mural by TimesNuRoman
Never forget you is the only Lupe Fiasco I heard
And it means the world to me
If you ever lost someone, you'll really vibe with this song
Hey guys love your Channel!! Please react to Lil Peep Star Shopping 🙏
Samuel Chisholm chanel 😂
Dopple Ganger cheers
Lmao
Literally, the best starting song to get an idea of the man behind the picture: Bitch Bad, a greatly unappreciated song, and just hits the right spots
Slowthai - T n Biscuits 🔥
He’s quite underrated from the Uk
I can’t believe I didn’t get a notification for this I’ve been waiting my whole life
React to Kanye West - Touch the Sky ft Lupe Fiasco
This would be great for you two
The absolute legends, they did it.
React to his new stuff..’ Stronger’ for example
I love that you've done this, and tbf you've reacted how I thought you would
Lupe Fiasco - Dumb it down
Hahaha right. Perfect for them 😂
A sample of great Lupe songs going from least to most complex:
1. Superstar/ I Gotcha
2. Kick, Push
3. The Instrumental
4. Daydreaming
5. Gotta Eat/ Little Weapon
6. Deliver
7. Dots and Lines
8. Prisoner 1 & 2
9. Adoration of the Magi
10. Mural
Thats probably how you work up to appreciating mural more.
Do more Lupe but some of his other songs lol
I’m so fucking happy. I want to hug you both. I’m so excited for this. Holy fucking shit. Jesus Christ.
J. Cole - Brackets please
Jon has become a rap head I love it haha You pick up on the nuances and meanings of the songs really well
Murals is a rlly bad intro to lupe, the cool, daydream, hurt me soul are far better intros to him
For as many requests as there were for this song I think there were almost as many comments saying not to start with this song. 😂 Don't get disheartened by this. You'll love lupe trust me
Oh gawd who recommended this? This lyricism maybe be too much for them to digest their brains are gonna explode
This is one of the best displays of lyrical talent in rap history. Not too many rappers are capable of doing this
please do some tame impala
THERE is a video that has pictures a long with the lyrics on youtube that seriously helps you understand ! loving the reviews keep it up
