Is more of a Nigerian East Africans encounter and with their laud, speaking behaviour….that irritates East Africans. French speaking west Africans are quiet speaking and mostly go to France and maybe other French speaking countries in Africa.

@monagiselle common wisdom should should tell you to listen to the blogger if you can't assimilate my comment. If the average Ghanaian can't assess and understand distance in Km or Miles, but the average Kenyan can do it, that should tell you that Kenyans are not only literate enough but numerate enough as well. Look at streets of niarobi and compare to Accra? Can you compare your korle lagoon and odawna to any water body in Niarobi? Has your beloved Ghana been able to go cashless in your economy? A stark illiterate in Kenya is able to transact businesses without cash. Now tell me if you have any beach in Accra devoid of human excreta? Massa, you are not civilised yet ok? travel to East Africa and see how laws are obeyed far better than the west. Go and see how infrastructure development is taken seriously, whereas ordinary pipe borne water is luxury in Accra.

@@EfyaKimorathere are funerals on weekends, though not many. Growing up, most funerals used to be held on Saturdays. The reason many are done on weekdays is because funerals on weekends would clash with other functions where the priest’s presence was required. For example he’d have two weddings and two funerals. So you’d find the functions running into the night waiting for him. So it was a decision among the people and the church to have Saturdays for weddings. A funeral can be held on Saturday if the priest is available to do the rites

This is really interesting hearing the differences! I live in USA and have been acquainted with people from most parts of Africa including Ghana (west) and Kenya (east) , but Africa is big and I knew there would be differences. Probably the most interesting to me is that Ghana drives on the right like the USA whereas Kenya drives on the left like the UK, which I would expect left as former British colonies. Quick googles reveal Nigeria also drives on the right but Gambia and Sierra Leone drive on the left (also former British colonies). I will have to research how Ghana and Nigeria escaped the British curse of driving on the left (left is wrong as you know 🙃😛). I used to frequently go to Hong Kong and PRC China a couple of decades ago and HK is left and PRC is right. As you know, one is correct and one is not😉. jk, sort of :).

That's generally East African culture, though few exceptions do exist such as Ugali/rice in Tanzania for instance will always be accompanied with stew or vegetable or both, in most cases you will be saved with 2 or more different vegetables in addition to your main dish which consists of ugali/rice /French fries with meat (fish, beef or chicken are common protein in various restaurants) . But I equally get shocked how can one manage driving on the left side of the car, it is easy to drive your car while using your right hand to control the stearing wheel, so I love the way we drive in East Africa. In Tanzania Also I don't have to carry cash, I can pay using mobile money for any service from personal transportation to grocery shopping, buying bus or train ticket etc. Also paying for government services such as water and electricity is strictly through mobile payment.

For funerals it depends on who and where in Kenya. For people coming from mostly western sides of Kenya funerals are held either Fridays, Saturdays. This is because on distance to travel from Nairobi to those areas. Also for those observing sabbath on Saturdays burials will be done on Thursdays or Fridays, for those who go to church on Sundays then they will likely bury the dead on Saturday to allow maximum attendance of friends and relatives. Muslims will bury any day according to their customs. For the people coming around near Nairobi they will usually bury weekdays since its convenient for them travel wise. As for driving on the left side on the road we inherited from the British our former colonizers, Ghana must have changed their side to conform and accommodate the French speaking west African countries.

This myth should be dismissed as soon as possible. Kenya has a variety of cuisine. Countless. Each tribe has their own meals
Luos- fried/fish stew, omena, aliya, traditional vegetables..
Luhyas- Chicken stew, traditional vegetables etc
      Kisiis- Majorly matoke
      Kambas- Muthokoi
      Kikuyus- Mokimo
      Kalenjin- mursik
Now these are just some few I've mentioned from each tribe. Remember we have over 48 tribes.
The business sector is the one that has failed us specifically the Nairobi's capital hotel industry. They haven't invested in such meals but only the generally eaten meals like ugali, rice, fish, meat and the western foods like fries, burgers etc hence this false idea that we don't have a lot of local cuisine. We actually do.
I've not even mentioned the street foods like mutura, smokies, kebabs, boiled eggs, smocha, etc etc.
      We have alooot!!!

@@felixlofez4100 As a Kenyan who has lived in Ghana, I will tell you Ghana has more varieties of food compared to Kenya.

    Hi Efya,
On the weather part, you got it wrong. In Nairobi we have seasons which are very sunny/hot at temperatures can be between 27-33 degrees. Especially around November to February. It’s so hot. If you travelled around june/July that is our cold season. The ac are used mostly on hot seasons. About food variety, we also have so much. You need to go to specific joints to take our delicacies. Am also guessing that your stay was short. But most welcome back again. Kenyans love visitors. Fun fact: we have restaurants that offer west African dishes like Mama Ashanti ni lavington(nairobi)
